I have read all three of Frank's books and stumbled on Malachy's only recently. Quite amazing considering I live in a foreign, non-English speaking land, far from both Ireland and the States. I've learned so much from their life stories. What inspirational people who've given so much joy to so many, around the world! R.I. P. Frank and a long, healthy life to Malachy!
I MET MALACHY MCCOURT IN MILWAUKEES IRISH FESTIVAL IN 2009 TALKED WITH HIM FOR ABOUT A HOUR GREAT TIME. WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE TO HAVE MET HIS BROTHER FRANK ALSO. I HAVE ALL THERE BOOKS AND MEMOIRS. GREAT IRISH STORY TELLERS. GOD BLESS THEM, FRANK A TEACHER IN NEW YORK.
This was just what I needed after a long day. I loved Angela's Ashes, and Tis... went to Limerick last year for 10 days. Enjoyed it immensely. Never been to Ireland....our Ancestor Major Jon Welch left in 1640 to America....I was 💚🍀
I am Irish-American actually Irish-Italian there's a combination for ye. I've been to Ireland 7 times, Limerick a few, and I went on the Angela's Ashes tour with my son who also read the books. I don't know if the tour is still happening, but I highly recommend it. Don't forget to have a drink in South's Pub where the funny incident happened when the boys let go the baby carriage from the top of Old Barrick Hill and it flew across the street right into the Pub. A miracle a car wasn't coming; there would be one less McCourt brother.
I love seeing Malachy. I always wondered what he looked like, how the relationship worked, and the “miracle” of humor n intelligence. They look so different but are so similar. I so enjoyed revisiting the book(s)
Here's a fun fact: Malachy isn't Frank's brother, he's his first cousin. In Irish families traditionally the first son is named after the father. The father was Malachy. Yet Malachy is the second son. Frank's father was Frank McCourt, Malachy's brother and his mother was not Angela, she was his aunt through marriage. Frank's mother was Annie. They died and Malachy was the only uncle Frank had so him and Angela took Frank. But I believe Frank was vindictive as he was jealous of his three cousins having their mother.
I watched the movie *many* times and had no idea this was based on a true story, much less that there were any books! Wow!!! What things they went through! I have to get me the books here very soon!
Really enjoyed listening to this! Just done rereading Angela's Ashes for the 3rd time now. I first read it many years ago and then listened to the audiobook version also.
But now you must read the sequel "Tis" which in some ways is even more funny and more tragic. I love Frank McCourt so much. Then there is "Teacher Man" the third and final book of the trilogy. RIP Frank, you are missed.
@@hooleyqueen Agree. I met Mr. McCourt and he was as charming and lovely as could be. He was a few decades older than me, but I was besotted. I have read his three books many a time. Sad to learn that Alphie and Michael have passed away; only Malachy remains of the Brothers McCourt. :-(
Our mom called us dirty little 'blagards' when we were small and disobedient. She was not fron Ireland , nor Irish. But our dad was both. I did not know until I grew up where she got that word. Of course, she meant 'blackguards.'

This is cool. They're closing the frank mc court Museum this week for lack of funding.

A liar that slandered the people living in the lovely lanes of Limerick
Frank mccourt cok guzel kalbli bir insan buna butun kalbimle inaniyorum
@@ipekcinar2071 Indeed. I'm actually just making a humorous reference to this video

Angela McCourt was described as the Angel of the lanes.
And he puts down his own mother.
