- The long awaited reverse hyper review!
In this video I cover what we like about our reverse hyper scout by Westside Barbell. You can find it for sale on Rogue USA for under $400. We have both a REP FITNESS GHD and this reverse hyper and love both of them. If you have ever thought about getting a reverse hyper you'll want to watch this video.

One of the sickest home gyms I've seen.
Thank you!! Appreciate it.
It is one of the best investments you will ever make. Loui who invented it says to put 50% of your max deadlift performing up to 45,000 total pounds moved.
its awesome.
I will say that this particular machine has become indispensable for my lower back health. I haven’t been able to squat or deadlift without back pain for years. Doing some heavy reverse hypers between sets and as a cool down exercise has completely removed my back pain. I have tried GHD and other machines that are supposed to help but nothing compares to this. There’s something about the movement. Totally agree with that stupid bolt. Good solution. I’ve added some rubber washers instead of weight plates. Great video, thanks for all the reviews.
I love hearing feedback like this. I have extremely tight hamstrings and lower back and went heavy only to hurt my back (herniated disk) but it was my own stupidity! I used the same reverse hyper to rehab my injury and was back to PR's in 3 weeks. I agree with you it's indispensable! thanks for the support.
I've never used a reverse hyper, but this review prompted me to pull the trigger. Rogue has this marked down during their Black November sale, but it's still more expensive than the days of yore. It's also part of their 5 for $5 shipping promo. I'm at the point in my life where my back could probably use a new back, so I'm hoping this will help. I've also read reviews where people have used this for leg extensions and curls. I'm curious to see how well that works. Rogue should hook you up with an affiliate link.
Right on! That's awesome. I love the reverse hyper and still use it all the time. I've never used it as a leg extension machine. Let's face it companies try to sell us this equipment by saying it does a million other movements. I'm all about using stuff for it's intended purpose.
Did it work?
I have had one for a few years and always use mine at the end of leg day.
i find it better at the end or on non leg days. Pumps too much blood into the back and can make it tight for squats.
Thanks for this review. Helpful and appreciated. Cheers
Glad it was helpful!
Your gym is so sick
Thanks!! Appreciate it.
Thanks for the review I dig our channel and your content. Like others, I see this on sale right now. I have been going back and forth on this vs a GHD. Would love to hear your thoughts after having both pieces for a while.
Both all day if you have the space. Completely different movements and muscle activation. People don’t have them based on lack of space I find.
Thanks for sharing! Will get mine next week. Kenneth, Norway 🇳🇴
Since I made this video I like it even more! Great decision. cheers, Rylan
Very useful video and helpful advice! Thank you 🙏
your welcome.
This is a great review
Hey thanks! Just trying to be honest with everything. Lot's of salesman hype when it comes to gym equipment reviews! Thanks for watching.
Thank you in Market to get one now that I have more information about it 👍🏾
I’ll say I like it more now months since doing that review. Start light and work up slowly.
Thanks for the review! Just ordered one. Greets from Germany 🇩🇪
Hey thanks! I was just in Germany.. Thanks for the support! cheers, Rylan
Good tips you don’t hear too often around 7:05
I still use it all the time. It really helps my back. Just don't swing for the fences or you can do more harm.
Hi, thanks for a great video! I just received my Scout. Regarding the accessory handles for shorter people, I’ve been looking on Rogue and Westside’s website’s but I don’t see them anywhere for sale. Where did you get the ones in the video? Thanks
The handles were on Rogues website on the Reverse Hyper page as a "add on". I just checked and your in luck they have them in stock!
nice garage gym!
Thanks
and good review@@MacStrengthCo
2nd most important machine ever created besides the bench. This is the most important area of the body that really needs work.
100% Truth. It has been a life saver. The westside guys used to do them in the rack with a plank basically before Louie invented this version.
How do I keep the ankle strap from slipping off? I can’t get 2 reps in without it falling down.
slow down and add weight.
Great content here. Quick question. Is this that different than a Roman chair?
Yes I've used both and this is unlike any Roman Chair I've used. It's a great tool for your lower back and hamstrings.
Hi, would you recommend this over the Roman chair if you could only buy one?
Thanks!
I’m 5’9 do I need the extension handles?
No you should be fine as is!👍🏻
Did you have any back issues before buying this?
ton's back issues. I deadlift just over 500 lbs now so I think this fixed all my issues. I still use it 3-4 yrs later and love the reverse hyper.
Get that affiliate!
Thanks, I should look into it. Grateful to have this much equipment right now to review. Might take me awhile to get thru it all!
Question what's good plate to use with Westside? 🤔
Pretty much any plate will work fine except bumpers plates are not recommend. They are too big to be ideal. The arm can only handle 175lbs max roughly so I've been using 4x35lb plates on mine.
awesome review! how big is your gym and bjj mat? ive been wanting to do something very similar
1500 sq ft gym. mat area is 10'x20'. thanks for watching!
Garage is as big as a house!!!
I can’t praise this machine enough. Between my job as a Firefighter, formerly a professional mixed martial artist and still a BJJ practitioner I don’t know how exactly I hurt my back but I was able to fix my bulging disc and get back to training BJJ. God bless Louie Simmons
yup. it's something we all need. used properly it's can really help.
Another solution to the bolt issue is to use the 3D printed spacers from aperture engineering.
That’s another good idea! Honestly Rogue or Westside should fixed it at the factory!👍🏻
Just ordered a pair of 30mm for an incoming scout order. Thanks for the advice
I'm thinking about buying one of these even though there are some gym hack videos out there that can show you how to put together a makeshift RHE. I was also looking to have my parents use it to help with their back pain, since I don't have any. Btw, I love the Clan MacAllister crest incorporated into your logo. I'm of Clan MacKay, myself. Either way it's always good to showing their colors, so to speak. Good video!
I also thought about the DIY option and think there's nothing wrong with the DIY route. For $359 or $399 depending on the sale this is hard to beat. I don't think I can make one for that when I include what my time's worth plus I can always sell this for nearly what I paid for it.
Clan MacKay is always welcome here by the way. Appreciate the feedback and support. cheers!
@@MacStrengthCo Cool. Right now on rogue, those Westside Barbell reverse hypers are backordered. But when they are available for purchase, I'm thinking I'll just go ahead and buy one.
I bought some spacers from Aperture engineering on the weight horns. Solved the problem nicely and the bolt has no chance of scratching my plates.
Another great idea.👍🏻. I have a ton of stuff to review from Aperture Engineering coming soon!
@@MacStrengthCo looking forward to watching them.
I bought a reverse hyper a month ago and boy is it great you can do more than reverse hyper on it I also have a head harness and do thoracic spine movements and ita great!!!!I might buy a ghd due to the fact my erectors are tight and always have tight feeling and i have tried everything and still dont work.
Yes the GHD allows some different movements. I like having both.
Why not take that bolt to your local hardware store and find a shorter version of it? Seems like a quick fix
It's already the right length. It's the nut and everything that scraps your plates.
I'm 6'5-6'6, is that too tall to use the machine without my feet hitting the ground?
I would get the Rogue version.
Aren't they both the same height? I really only have space for the foldable machine@@MacStrengthCo
thank you for sharing this experience😊
Of course!!
