It's what I play loud in my car...Rath shreds it; all of them were talented.Shame on you Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. Richrath and Doughty and Bruce deserved to be in Hall of Fame. We need a new Rock n Roll Hall of Fame and put the good bands in!!
Watching this vid reminds me how great Gary Richrath was! My very favorite lead guitarist of all time!! A unique style that no one has been able to copy, and no one ever will!! Such an agonizingly sad end! REO was never the same, and the music world will never be the same!! Ahhh, good memories of a day when life was so much sweeter than today !! 😊
Man, when Gary gets those scratch tones mixed into his usual fantastic solos, it takes me to a very special place. (See also the "Golden Country" from Charlevoix MI, either 1980 or 1981. It's on YT.)
After watching these guys after the past few nights on numerous live shows,it's obvious to me they were the best band to see live in the late 70's to early 80's. Certainly overshadowed somehow by Van Halen. Gary may easily have been better than Eddie in his showmanship and at the very least equal in his mastery of the lead guitar.I was a fan back then but, have just watched some of these live performances and I am blown away by their stage presence and how well they meshed as a whole. There was a concert in particular in KC that was one of the best live shows I have seen on you tube.
Just discovered this song today and I love it. The best guitar solo I've heard in a long time. Nine lives is supposed to be the album where reo really rock out so will be checking it out.
Pretty much any guitar would sound good when played through a Marshall super lead (if not too cheap, I'm talking good quality: Rickenbacher, Gretsch, Fender, Guild, Vox, Mosrite, PRS, Gibson, etc.)
Gary's go to guitar was actually a Worthington, custom made. The Les Paul filled in sometimes but watch the vidoes and look for the big W on the headstock. Les Paul's made in the last 12 years I wouldn't give you a dime for.
@@beachgirl4583 Yep, I actually talked to the store owner who is friends with the builder. I think there were 10 bodies cut and shaped and only 8 were ever made to completion.
Wow, the skip and the glitch killed it early on for me. I have seen them SO many times and loved them every time but WHY the skip and ffw early on? Ruined it.
Gary Richrath making a Les Paul do what it was designed to do. WAIL! It doesn’t get any better than this. Rock and roll at its finest!
Best song they ever did
Richrath is one of few guitarists with a recognizable sound. That's hard to do. RIP
GPH- LP to Wah to Marshall was ALL the man needed. A TRUE original.
Great comment.

Dark Cloud,
We need a new (different) Rock Hall of Fame. The current one overlooks real rockers, for popular acts that aren’t even rock.
Whitney Houston, Johnny Cash, Joan Jett, Cheap Trick are all listed as "Recognized Rockers" over REO Speedwagon. Ha! 🤭
I saw two twice in the late 70s and early 80s . This song is not only my all tome fav of their but it’s is among my favorite of all time

It's wonderful seeing Gary Richrath healthy, happy, smiling, and fret-flying!!
Without a doubt my favorite REO Speedwagon song. Bruce Hall gives them a totally different sounds. 👍

Without question this is the most fun REO song to jam to in the car.. I do and I don't care I look silly,,, Im rockin it baby!
He was the best!! No one could replace him; including his replacement!!
The 3 people who disliked this video are crazy.
Gary was killer. Good drummer too.

they have 2 different styles of playing so that's not fair
So many great guitar players throughout the 70’s and 80’s ... no need in picking them apart just be thankful we got to see them live !
i fully agree..
I saw them in '77and they rocked It. Hometown Illinois band.
Bruce got even better with age. Kevin shouldn't have hogged the spotlight so much. He didn't help that song a bit.
Thanks for the video! It shows Gary kicking ass and taking names. Its helped me perform this song better.
Gary rules!!!!
Get it Gary!!
Gary definitely very very talented guitarist...
wow that solo was some one of a kind gary.
I miss Gary!
Every day!
great tune
The best REO song!!!!!!!!
The best guitar song for sure! They've had a lot of great songs.

monstruo Ritchrath
Wow!
Gary was one of the best if not the best
Richrath was one bad SOB on that LP gold top. And I would take Hall's vocals over Cronin's pop music style ANYDAY!
So this Richrath...pretty familiar with a fret board, no?
Very familiar.... quite an accomplished musician.
A master of the fretboard and the squeals too!
Greg Ball,
Check out the “Gary eats frets” video. I think the song is Golden Country.
wow why do we have to age
In the dublydo is say kronin vocals clearly Bruce is singing LEAD VOCALS.
Cronin was and is an asshole!
I noticed that, too. Wth?
and that my friends is how its done
I hope they know i know
Why am I having this problem
D amato is a great professional player.gary owned this song and enjoyed playing it.dave looks like tries to over play it.
Gibson Les Paul, accept no substitute.

Gary’s Les Paul was a custom piece. Less than 10 were built, iirc.

Another video live using a Ibanez or Yamaha sound better IMO.
It would have been in a vanilla wrapper without a little guitar from Gary. Sounded like Gary was on downers.

I noticed that, too. I'm thinking there was a glitch in the tape and it was edited out. Shit happens!
Pedantic....Yawns...
