"De Mördades Fria Republik" or "Free Republic of the Murdered" is a political protest song created by Dan Berglund in 1974. It's part of his "Stöd de Strejkande Hamnarbetarna" or "Support the Striking Dock Workers" album. And it rightly so, as it mentions about a worker welding on a deck (and dying). Also a side note, it was then included in Berglund's debut album "En Järnarbetares Visor" or "An Ironworker's Poem" in 1975.
It was published by the "Proletärkultur" which is under the wing of the KPML (R), which is the Swedish Communist Party or, if completely translated, the Marxist-Leninist Communist Union (Revolutionaries). Berglund himself was closely associated with the KPML (R) before breaking away from it in 1979 and taking a break from the music industry. He would return in 1987, making music of reduced political tones.
The song itself tells the story of Sven, a Swedish industrial worker who welds in a shipyard. He dies in a workplace accident on a snowy winter, in which his fellow dead workers rise up to welcome him to the "Free Republic of the Murdered." They then sing their song, in protest of the conditions leading to their deaths.
