    The Glossy Ibis is quite a common bird here in SE Queensland but I wasn't aware of the change in the birds plumage during the breeding months. Our biggest problem with the sun is that usually around about 9am the light is quite harsh for photography and any distant shots can start to suffer from heat haze. Good to see your Dad out and about despite the cold.

    • @danwillis_photography
      @danwillis_photography  10 місяців тому +1

      Cheers John, I would take the harsh light and heat haze over the constant grey and rain we are experiencing here in the UK.
      I would love to visit Queensland 👍🏻

    Evening Dan , thanks for another great video, it's always good to pick up a new species, I've not seen one in the wild only a zoo. I visited the site a couple of years ago met some regular old birders just outside the visitor centre who gave me the heads up on the black necked grebe, tick ,and got a few pics of the Kestrel and little owl in the big digger compound ,a good days birding. Glad you got to see and film the Ibis and had day out with your dad, magical. Derek.

    Nice one Dan, glad you and Pops enjoyed it. St. Aidan’s it’s my refuge when visiting family in the north, only 20 minutes away from where I stay. The llossy ibis is a relatively dull bird as shown in the video, it wasn’t until another. photographer showed me it in flight when it had caught the sun you get a chance to realise what a stunning bird it really is.

      I know exactly what you mean, I’d done some research on the subject before I went (I always do this so that I can share with viewers what I’ve learned) and saw images that showed this very flamboyant bird so was surprised when I was greeted by a rather drab looking bird 😂

    Great video chaps but one thing I notice when you visit these great ( and sometimes) very expansive reserves is a lack of optics have found a decent pair of binoculars can be a great asset over these larger reserves. ( Not a criticism just passing on a lesson learnt. ) 👍

    Nice to see you have found my local reserve! Go back in spring for sure! Black necked Grebes have chicks - one of the best places to see them. Good for Kestrel too, they can let you get pretty close. Gets very busy with gulls but lots of different spring migrants and breeding birds all over the place. There are a few Bittern in those reed beds and plenty of Cettis warbler too

    Another excellent informative and entertaining video lads. I visit St Aidan's regularly, you can have quiet days and exceptional days, a lot depends on the weather due to its exposure. Great shots of the Ibis.
    Come back in early Spring on a calm day and you should get photos of lots more, including the almost guaranteed Black necked grebes.

    Lovely video Dan very entertaining, I was fortunate to have 8 of them on my local reserve in Cornwall last summer, they’re stunning when the sun shines on them!
    Have you tried the 400 with an external 1.4 tc on and the internal tc at the same time? I’m looking to get one but weighing up all the pros and cons before I jump in!! Cheers

    • @danwillis_photography
      @danwillis_photography  11 місяців тому +1

      Cheers Andy, I would love to see them in the right light showing off those iridescent colours I bet it’s awesome.
      I’ve used the 400mm with the 1.4 and 2x TC with and without engaging the internal TC. The lens works fantastic with the TC’s but you do start to see a degradation in image quality when 2 TC’s are engaged together, especially to the edges of the image.
      Hope that answers your question and all the best 👍🏻

    Hi Dan - you talked about Pop's Z180-600mm lens, having a trade off in sharpness for the advantage of its zoom focal range. This has put me off considering it, even though image quality is pretty good. However, this might be useful to you both. I follow Brad Hill's blog and his latest blog article is about 'DxO modules make Nikon latest lenses better' and has written a review whereby DxO's software 'Lens and camera modules make the Z180-600' makes the results of this lens's only 'weak spot' of edge sharpness a whole lot better (and pretty much the same amongst any lens). I have been using the trial software and found it excellent on some of my older lens and camera images (ie, D7000, D600 and F mount lenses). You might find it useful, also might change my assessment of the 180-660

    • @danwillis_photography
      @danwillis_photography  11 місяців тому +1

      Thanks very much for sharing this I’m definitely going to look into this software. I have thought from the beginning of getting my Z9 that Adobe did not seem to handle the images as well as Nikons own software but their software is a bit clumsy in my opinion. This software however looks incredible so will definitely be giving their free trial a go.
      Thanks again and all the best 👍🏻
