This is such a thorough, thoughtful and helpful video. A gem on the net. Got my lighter up and running after it spending years at the bottom of a drawer. Thank you!
Just bought a miller beer scripto on eBay that’s never been used with the box. Maybe yours? Lol. Anyhow, super excited, and this video sold me on it. Very clever engineering for the time! “They don’t make things like they used to!”
Thanks for the informative video. Just picked up my first one of these at an estate sale today for 4 bucks. The wheel was spinning freely and I wasn’t sure how to fix, but now know what to do. Nice video!
Great video! Grandma just found another lighter in her house and gave it to me, it seems to be 1962 since the base is solid. This is the 2nd one she found--and this one is as old as I am!
Hey man i really appreciate you making a video about that my grandpa had the same lighter before he died just with dice instead of a picture but im thinking of getting it fixed for my grandma
Thank you for the video. My father passed away and I found one of these old lighters in his stuff but I didn't know how to use it. I just used it for the first time! I took a picture to put on here but I guess I can't in the comments. So thank you!
I've got the Golf one with the black bank and it works great. Found it in my storage building today. Thanks for the video. I didn't know how to take it apart.
I had one of these lighters back when you could smoke on commercial airliners. I went to refuel the wick chamber without pressing the feed button when the lighter was right side up. All the fluid in the tank dumped into my lap due to the reduced cabin pressure and the ground level pressure in the tank. Yes, I'm old.
Damn this is a great video. It’s what makes the internet great. Thank you Based on your description of you’re lighterI have a double dice 1960 and I’m damn near positive watching this video a second time I’m going to get it working.
Trying to install a new wick without damaging the end stuffing it through small hole can be tough. I figured out a good system to make it a lot easier to in. Dip the wick in candle wax and pinch the end. It’ll slip right in.
How do you switch out the plunger gasket? I have one that leaks there into the wick when filling and can't find instructions or tutorials anywhere. Thanks!
I’ve got a scripto vu with one of the bathing suit babes. I’m surprised they appear to be a bit more in demand on eBay. Thanks for the video. I’ve had and used my lighter for a long time. I just crammed a zippo wick in from the top as I didn’t know they could be taken apart.
Great video!👍 Hey I have a scripto VU 1960 it's leaking badly from the wick area. I replaced a round gasket under the top piece where wick goes thru. Still leaks. The case has no cracks. How do you remove the button valve to replace gasket or can you remove?
Awesome! I just received my vu-scripto today and was able to take it apart, clean it, and make it work. I hade to turn a drill bit by hand to get the old Flint out. Lighter looks brand new! Thanks Also I seen someone on UA-cam had a video and also offered seals if you needed them. Don’t know if he’s still offering it though
Very cool! What is the design or advertisement it features? I hate the flintlock in old lighters but the tiny bits make easy work of it (most of the time). I don't need one at the moment but I'm always trying to find the people with the parts for all these old lighters!
Well I received my Vu-Lighter but as I was pressing the button to saturate the wick and released it the button, spring and shaft assembly came out about 1/4". The black seal and the retaining star washer ended up in the clear reservoir. Do you have a fix for this?
I have a Vu-Lighter that says Sperry Rand Gyroscope Division inside. The rubber washer of the plunger disintegrated, you can see the pieces inside the fuel receptacle. You did not show how to disassemble the plunger. Is it even possible? If it is possible, where can I find a replacement washer? Thanks
Thanks do you know how to replace push button gasket? They seem to want to keep everything a secret about theses some people are selling the information on rebuild
Thanks for your great video! I am thinking about getting one of these Vu-Lighters but I have just one question. Maybe you can answer it. Where can I get replacement flints for this Vu Lighter?
Hi friend, i hope you read this, i have an old barlow b53 as been abandoned for a long time and i want to repair him but i don’t found some manual or info to do it, i hope you can help me :(
Thanks for the vid I have a scripto vu pipe lighter that needs the fill button seal replaced have you ever replaced that seal before and do you know how to do it?
Hello I was wondering if you had any knowledge on how to refill a 1970 vintage Scripto lighter. It says it takes butane at the bottom but not sure how to go about refilling this thing?
Unfortunately I do not actually own a Ritepoint and only have the pamphlet at this time. There is a website with repair manuals on Ritepoint that I have the link for. www.toledo-bend.us/VCL/manual/manual.asp?page=099
Awesome video. I never would have figured it out without you. Just one question sir. Is it possible to purchase replacement springs for the flint? Liked and subscribed!

THANK YOU SIR !!! I'VE HAD THESE FOR YEARS AND NEVER KNEW HOW THE CAME APART. NOW I NEED TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO REPLACE THE RUBBER SEALS.
Another great demonstration on how to disassemble a unique lighter
Just found one of these going through my papaws things. Needed fluid and a flint. Works beautifully. Can’t be more pleased. Thanks for the vid
Same thi g happened to me. I found one in my dad's things. They don't make them like these anymore that's for sure.

I picked up a VU-LIGHTER from my local antique shop near me they are cool lighters I'll give it that.
I have a 55 to 59 in the same lighter from your video! Great video by the way
I think your video is excellent! Thanks very much for your clear instructions and you've made it possible for me to date my lighter. Kudos to you!

thank you, so many questions answered in just 10 min.

I'VE COLLECTED ALOT OF THESE, GREAT LIGHTERS. 🔥
Can you get replacement flint springs?
Excellent demo. Really useful
Thanks I just found one and needed to figure out where the flint goes
Great video!👍

Hey it’s an advertisement for a Trenton recycling
I’m from The area so that makes it pretty cool
I like the advertising pieces I have a few from my area as well. It's a neat part of recent history!
I'd love to see how you "motivated" that sleeve to turn it a 1/4 turn. I can't seem to get mine unstuck
On my lighter, the striker assembly is loose in the flange tube. Is there is safe/easy way to get a more secure fit? Thanks!
Thank you for doing this video and posting it

My grandfathers lighter has a fishing lure in it. When I put fluid in the whole top was blazing. What am I missing. ?

My bottom seal was a flat washer. It had deteriorated so I replaced it with an o-ring. Seems to work ok. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks.
i just got my first one of these, but where the striker wheel sits, it does not have that cut out to turn it like yours... how do i get it out...???
SO what if you have one with a bad rubber seal?
Awesome! Thank you
Thanks do you know how to replace push button gasket? They seem to want to keep everything a secret about theses some people are selling the information on rebuild
Just picked one of these up at rummage sale. Great condition. It’s newer than yours, but the valve button (side of the lighter) sticks. Any tips?
So what if the gaskets for the button are bad? How do you change them?
Well done, very helpful!
any idea how to separate the blue band from the clear bottom part?
thanks for the video.
Do you have any of these lighters for sale?
Thanks for your great video! I am thinking about getting one of these Vu-Lighters but I have just one question. Maybe you can answer it. Where can I get replacement flints for this Vu Lighter?
Anywhere they are sold, practically everywhere. Only bics have thick large flints. Standard size.
I’ve seen repair kits on eBay. I’m not positive, but I think the button is just held in by tension from the o-rings. So it just pulls out.
Thanks for the disassembly tutorial. I work on mechanical watches but I still couldn't figure out how to access the screw. It's almost a puzzle.
I would think of all things, watches would be the hardest thing of all! Lighters are easier for me. Lol
Hello I was wondering if you had any knowledge on how to refill a 1970 vintage Scripto lighter. It says it takes butane at the bottom but not sure how to go about refilling this thing?
Its a clear view butane lighter. You answered your own question. Refill valve where you can clearly see it. Take off cap.
Do you know how to replace a tile in a scripto Vu lighter
How would you clean up the plastic so it’s not as foggy or yellow as they have gotten dull or time
Just add the lighter fluid that cleans it automatically
Anyone have experience in removing the fuel tank on a SCRIPTO vu lighter to replace the fuel release seals?
I’ve seen wick sleeves on eBay. When did they come in?
How do you repair the plunger or is it possible
Where do u buy the wick from
Where do you buy the flint?
Hey can you do a video on the ritepoint lighter in the background? I couldn't find any videos on it.
Yes. Either from a bic and cut or pen. You can use any spring from anywhere as long as it works! Just cut to size or wanted tension!
I have the bowling man vu lighter and I need to purchase a new flat peice that you pull out and a new wheel.
merci
thanks
How to tighten the lid
You wouldn't happen to know how to replace the button?
I have the golf one
For fucks sake putting the wick in blows I've mangled several wicks!
The lid has no ridges so pre-1961.
