    Young lady your dress came out beautiful. Yes the stripes you saw when you held he dress up came from cutting against the nap. Your mistake was at 20:49 when you folded the fabric length wise instead of selvage to selvage. You have to lay all the pattern pieces in one direction on stretch velvet. If you run your hand down the fabric it should all be smooth. If it’s rough it’s going in the wrong direction. Keep up the great work. Even I learned something from this video and I’ve been sewing for a looong time.

    Karen Guinn I enjoyed EVERY second of that video. I am a visual learner and lord knows I need to see every step you showed especially the godess, zippers, tulle, and transforming one pattern into another!!! I can't thank you enough. I consider myself intermediate but I do have struggles and this video is so helpful for beginners as well. Please make more detailed videos like this because it is a drought on UA-cam. I needed this and I am so confident now. When I say I'm a visual learner, that is what I mean. Dont just tell me, I need to see!!! You gave me just that!!!! Thank you! I'm looking forward to more content from you!🥰🥰🥰💋💋💋💋

    That was so satisfying to watch. lol the fact that you showed your mistakes is mind-blowing. I've been going back and forth on just giving up on sewing sometimes because self-taught is a challenge. Thanks for taking the time out to make this video because once again, I know doing that is tedious and a challenge as well, now I just have to get off of this scared/lazy bus and order your pdf pattern ... thanks again 💚

    Hi Karen,
    I've been sewing for over 50 yrs. I noticed that you were cutting your pieces upside down and I knew it would be a problem with velvet. However, we've all made mistakes when sewing. Theres not enough space to mention all my mistakes over the yrs. And, surprisingly I still make'em. But, as a true professional you either correct it or find a workable solution. Just as you did. I always get extra fabric also. It's not the process but the end result that matters. I applaud you. The dress turned out gorgeous. 💚👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

    I had entered a comment wanting to know why there was a color shift from godets to main skirt but then you mentioned the nap. That explains it. Everything has to be laid in same direction when using velvet. Great video.

    Hello Young lady. Gorgeous Gown! I am not a seamstress but I have watched my mom for decades sew, I have seen her use afoot to do what you did with the bias kits called a bias foot if I'm not mistaken and it makes it so much easier to do than to fold and pin try it out she used to do halter tops like yours and she used that particular foot sometimes would use a Serger. Great job keep up the good work!

    There are two grooves on the zipper foot so you can sew both sides of the invisible zipper- because you’re supposed to sew in the same direction (bottom to top or vice versa) on both sides. Slippage can happen when you sew seams in different directions and it can throw off the lay of your fabric :)

    • @MadebyKarenM
      @MadebyKarenM  3 роки тому +1

      I’ll try that way again! I’ve never liked using the other side lol for some reason my needle would end up going through the teeth

      Just a suggestion, I would use lining fabric or just something not stretch under the tulle- only because it makes it heavier. A velvet train is heavy by itself and so is a tulle one...just somethin I found over years of makin prom dresses. Plus it's usually cheaper than the dress fabric, and it takes so much fabric to make a circle skirt😩 I'm all about some economics. Lol
