As an American I don't know much about Northern Ireland. Today I am very interested to learn about some of the best places to visit in all of Northern Ireland. If you enjoyed the video feel free to leave a comment, like, or subscribe for more!

@@reggriffiths5769 yeah sort of it was technically sunk due to a collision with a iceberg due to the incompetence of Captain Edward Smith, who was an ex Royal Navy Serviceman, he'd apparently been woken from his sleep to deal with the situation.
This bit is a pun by the way so no offence intended. After being woken from a deep sleep in which he'd been dreaming that he was Lord Nelson, couldn't see the iceberg because he'd forgotten to remove his sleep-time eye mask, and unintentionally sailed too close to the berg. Just one possible reason.
Titanic built in Belfast I thought everyone knew that Ryan. 2 huge cranes called Samson and Goliath!! Now a huge tourist attraction and museum there for tourists

The Titanic was built in Belfast, Northern Ireland at the Harland and Wolff shipyard for the White Star Line as one out of three sister ships, the other two being Olympic and Britannic.
The Titanic's port of registration was Liverpool though it never visited there.
It's maiden and as it turned out, only voyage, departed from Southampton on the 10th April 1912. It's destination was New York but it was never to arrive. On 15th Apri, midway across the Atlantic ocean on it's maiden voyage it struck an iceberg and sunk with the death of over 1500 of it's passengers and crew out of a total of over 2200. So 2/3rds on board died.
At the time it occurred it was considered the worst maritime disaster to ever have happened.
As a side note, the Britannic was sunk in the Mediterranean during WW1 whilst it was being used as a hospital ship bringing injured troops back to the UK from the Dardenells in modern day Turkey. The wreck of the Britannic is better preserved than the wreck of the Titanic because it rests in both far shallower and warmer water.
Registered in Liverpool as that was where the White Star Line had their offices before the merger with Cunard. The small ship in the dry dock is the last remaining port tender of Titanic / White Star Line used in Cherbourg, later bought by the port authority and rescued when they sold it for scrap. A Port of Cork tender was used in Queenstown, now Cobh.
The Giants Causeway is at the beginning, not the Cotswolds (or Coswolds, as you called it - twice).

The Giant's Causeway is said to link up with Fingals Cave on the Isle of Staffa across the sea in Scotland. The rock is the same hexagonal basalt.
Legend has it that an Irish giant named Finn McCool created a causeway to get across the Irish Sea to face his rival, the Scottish giant Benandonner. Following their fearsome meeting, Benandonner ripped up the causeway as he fled back to Scotland, leaving what you see here today.
It's an amazing place to visit, owned by the National Trust.

People built towns within the protection of the local castle and also, castles were built to control the towns. Isolated castles are rare.
Also in the Titanic quarter is HMS Caroline, the only surviving ship which was present at the Battle of Jutland.
I've been to the Republic many times as my mother is from there originally but never the North. Really want to go now. I hope you continue to be stunned by the beauty of the UK and one day get to come over.
You can take a look at Fingal's Cave on the Scottish island of Staffa which is the other end of the Giant's Causeway! Same rock formation.

Hello from Derry!! That first building you thought was maybe a monastery, is the Guildhall.
The city was founded by Saint Colmkille in the 5th century. So much history here.

The small ship in the dry dock in Belfast is the SS Nomadic which was owned by the White Star Line and was used to transfer passengers and mail to land where the liners to too big to enter port.
The Nomadic is a video on its own.
Castles were built to defend towns/cities,not a lot of point in building in the middle of nowhere.
Northern Ireland gets plenty of tourists from the US many of whom are looking into their family's history and connections with the country.
There are Hollywoods in Wicklow and Northern Ireland just as there are Bostons and a Baltimore.
Correction, there is no Hollywood in Northern Ireland. There is however, a Holy Wood that is now a conjoined name, and has only one "L" in the name. On the other hand, you can name a hundred or more place-names from all parts of the UK and Ireland that have been applied to towns all over the US, but with the original British spelling, and Holywood is not one of them! If you type Holywood into any browser or Word application, you will straightaway get an error warning - such is the huge difference.

Re Castles, they were built in strategic areas but towns almost always grew up around them for commerce and safety, also most early settlements were started by rivers for water, sewage and transport.
It must be a lot of fun to cross that rope bridge in a gale.
Most company’s give employers 4 weeks holiday paid. In uk and Europe That does not include the 8 bank holidays per year. If you work for a large company after a certain time working for them you get extra paid holidays up to 6 weeks ( extra days added EVERY FEW YEARS) normally 10.15, 20,25 days
Most castles in the UK are places you can walk around, but please don't chip bits off.
Why would a castle be built NOT in a town? A castle needs a community to support it.

Why is Tyler constantly surprised that you can visit historic sites in the UK? Surely he's seen enough videos of places of interest to realise that this is the norm here.
It's no coincidence that many castles are right in the centre of a town or city. The towns themselves often grew up next to the castle, as the centre of local commerce and power. In other locations, it's because there is a significant port, or trade route intersection which the Castle was built to defend, and the town to access.
Wish the narrator wouldn't keep pronouncing 'Antrim' as 'Anterim'. Otherwise a nice little video.

10:40 U.S.A. does have some castles. Not many, but definitely some. The Bannerman castle comes to mind. (in/near New York)
Castles are different depending on their use, some are fortresses and some are residential.
You need to understand, we can buy a sandwich and sit by a wall 1,000 years old without thinking about it. US has some wonderful natural wonders, but has the US is so big, may be most US citizens have to travel far
One of the best videos on NI I've seen. I'm sure there are many more hidden gems. Villages would be set up by the workers who built the castles, masons, carpenters etc and castles needed food. They would usually set up a farm or fishing industry to support the soldiers. Hence, the towns.
I’m surprised the Marble Arch caves in Fermanagh or Scrabo Tower in Newtownards were not on the list. The caves are also an UNESCO world heritage site.
The north coast is amazing but I’d highly recommend the Wild Atlantic Way - starts in the North, all the way to Galway in the South. There are so many hidden gems in NI but these are the most ‘touristy’. The Sperrin mountains are officially classified ‘a place of natural beauty’ & it didn’t make the list nor did Crumlin gaol, the Belfast peace walls.
Fun fact: Michael Jackson (the singer) tried to buy Dunluce Castle & restore it. He was turned down three times & at one point he tried to sue but the local people wanted it to remain as a heritage site.
I didn't know that. It may have ended up like a Disney castle! 😀

A bigger mystery is why younger Americans pronounce "t" on "often", but not in "soften".

More British people than not pronounce "often" that way too. When I was young, it was always "offen" or "awffen" if you were posh. I think the "t" stopped being silent owing to hyper-correction (upwardly mobile people modifying their original accent, not realising that their old way of saying a word was "right" all along). It's similar to "Haitch" for the letter H.
There are a couple of versions of the tale of the giants causeway. The one I was told was that the giant Finn built it to be able to visit his girlfriend in Scotland, another is that he built it to fight another giant in Scotland.
Derry is the Irish name, Londonderry is the UK name, make sure to not get that wrong if visiting!
Most Castles would have towns and cities develop around them, as they were the power of the area, many of these towns and Cities developed into our towns and cities today, and castles being castles (pretty tough) they stuck around lol, so I would say its rarer to find a castle all on its own but they do exist.

I don't think so; The Yanks are not taught much of anything outside of their own State, never mind outside their own country! Once they leave school they stop learning anything, which is why they can't spell, can't write, can't articulate and always speak in idioms. They know all about films and film stars, but know nothing else beyond their comics and cartoons. One they do better than every other nation, is talk, talk, talk, Their mouths never stop moving, for ewhen they're not talking, they're chewing gum or stuffing their faces - which leads on to their eating habits which are not entirely dissimilar to farmyard pigs - pigs never learnt to use cutlery either!
But here's a question: Why would anyone want to feign ignorance or stupidity? I've met a great many Americans, but never found one who wasn't a bit of a thicko, and never found one I'd want as a neighbour.

I thought he feigned it to get more "clicks" to get more money, as more people react and comment to explain things to him - which of course earns him more money from You Tube. But after watching him forget the Giants Causeway today in the space of about 10 minutes and call it the "Coswolds", maybe he truly is unable to retain information! The over-acting thing - the constant laughing and over-exaggerated facial expressions are an act though, as you can see by watching old videos of him, alone or with his brother, where his persona is completely different. There likely is a big factor of being uneducated, but also I am sure he does "act" ignorant too, simply to generate views and Comments and earn more $$$. If he really eanted to "learn", why does he NEVER read or respond to the Comments. People take time to send him information and explanations, and he can't even show enough respect to his viewers to give so much as a "Like"? That annoys me and why sometimes I can't hold my tongue on here..I feel bad for the people who he "takes for a ride" and those who are kind enough to want to send him things and he doesn't give them the time of day. And it's not just UK - he does the same to Norway and Canada..used to do Japan too for a while but dropped them when not enough views. I probably just wasted my time too, writing this 😅

The whole think is an act, and not just him but countless others. I enjoy winding them up, and if they get a few Bucks from it, it's not coming out of my pocket! Do you think he cares? I do agree with you on the complete lack of responses. I have someone who uploads my videos on YT, but we always respond to comments - a matter of common decency. If I expect people to view my uploads, I'm more than happy to respond. But as I say, most of the Yanks are only in it to pamper themselves and get paid for it.

Regarding the Ulster Folk Museum: there are quite a few of these open-air museums across the UK, Tyler. They are original buildings of all sorts from within the region the museum is in, that have been carefully dismantled, with all their stones and building parts numbered, so that they can be rebuilt exactly as there were within the museum campus, as an authentic historic experience.
Castles were built for difference purposes that aren't always defensive; with many of the newer ones simply being private residences. Those apart, most of the others do welcome visitors, although managed as tourist attractions as various bodies - that you need to pay to get into...
The highest mountain in Northern Ireland is Slieve Donard, the summit of which is 3216 feet above sea level. It is within the Mournes area.
That is one of the better videos I've seen about Northern Ireland, as it's not all about Belfast and Antrim. You're quite right - it is very overlooked.

You have to do some research on The Giants causeway folk lore.
You can walk in most castles for an exchange of a few pound coins. (Somewhere usually around £12pp) This money is used towards the upkeep of the ruins.

I haven't been to Ulster for many years, but from what I am hearing from people, it's very cheap and has very good travel bargains.
Take in the Republic in your trip, although that side of the border is not so cheap, and don't forget that they have Euros.
And that's the reason it's more expensive that side of the border.
Places like Hollywood in Ireland are the original place names...the ones in USA are the copies.

He's taken to asking "Who knew?" about all sorts of things that are really well-known...like the Titanic being built at one of the world's best-known shipyards; or the 60million year old basalt stones that make up the Giant's Causeway, or castles being made large & sturdy enough to protect the villagers & farmers in times of war., and have access to water in times of siege, war, invasion.
Both he & his brother seem not to be readers... While videos give people a sort of simplified version of history, much of the content is composed of myth, legend, & inaccuracies.
Without reading - not necessarily big thick books, but newspapers, articles, research papers etc. it's pretty difficult to get a rounded view. That's why, I think, they don't link things together, or draw obvious conclusions (like what castles were built for!)....but, even so, they have learnt a whole lot so far. Just a damn shame they still haven't learnt yet to make sense of the march of history,

It's been British for 400 years, and they can name it as they choose. If and when the Irish get it back you can call it whatever you wish. Being as it's still British, we call it Londonderry, but so not to aggravate the situation we are happy enough for you to call it Derry....pathetic, isn't it!

Many of the people of that city call it Londonderry, but I think most of them call it Derry. I'm quite happy to accept that the city has two names and I don't get involved in the politics or sectarianism. It is of interest that the Church of Ireland (protestant) has a Bishop of Derry and Raphoe. Derry, not Londonderry.

I suspect that the majority of people in the Republic of Ireland would prefer to retain the older name, but for 400 years it's been a British city, and being a British city they can call it what they wish - as I referenced in my earlier posting above..
The Church of Ireland can use any title they wish as they are not subject to any political rulings. You will find the Church of England in other countries, including Wales, where they prefer to call themselves The (Anglican) Church in Wales apart from England, and the same applies to the CoI. The Catholic Church (OKA the Church of Rome) is everywhere, so the point you are trying to make is a rather spurious one.

Depending where you are in the UK/Ire to make it politically correct, we say Derry/Londonderry.
I'm beginning to second guess Tyler now. Is he pretending he doesn't know the Titanic was built in Belfast so lots of people comment on it to better his algorithm. Like the way he pronounces Edinburgh and anything ...Shire wrong, no matter how many times he has heard the correct pronunciation in the video he is reacting to cos he knows people will correct him in the comments.

Nah it's their education system they only teach patriotism and capitalism, they don't know anything of realism.
Unlike us outside of the states, we learn many aspects of life very quickly, and just like you spot how the algorithms are being used to personalise gain, if you notice he never replies to the comments we leave.
We outside the states have a higher intellect and can do our own research, usually with a higher degree of accuracy and honesty, definitely with a higher degree of integrity.

Alas, re the Giant's Causeway he chose a less specific dumb comment. Basalt columns are pretty common all over the world. The US has 26 major sites that feature them including some very famous Nationally protected areas.

3:06 I was waiting to see if the video would explain how the rock formation of the giants causeway was formed, but they seem to just say “ancient volcanoes” and expect people to magically understand it!
Lava flowed out onto a large area and then started to cool (they are made of basalt, a typical volcanic rock). Then as the lava “lake” cooled, it solidified, and then as it continued to cool, the rocks shrank and eventually fractured into these very even regular hexagonal columns. It only happens because the lava had to be extremely even temperature and consistent type of rock (the lava has to be ‘well mixed’) and it’s thought rapid cooling by water might make it more likely to form. That said, you can see the same kind of hexagonal columns formed by vulcanism around the world in various places. Another spot in the U.K. is Fingle’s cave on an island just off the west coast of Scotland. They can also be seen in Iceland and in America at Devil’s Postpile monument in California, and with a slightly different type of rock at Devil’s Tower, in Wyoming.
Oh, and similar formations have also been found on Mars - so the extra terrestrial angle was funny.
I know he’s apparently a twin, but I think he’s really a clone and we get to see a new clone react to each video…that’s the only explanation for how the same things keep being so amazing ;)
