Thinking about it, the very fact that Twitter is running a marketing campaign that literally tells you to sign up shows they're getting desperate. Twitter's made one bad decision after another and their user base has been continually dropping as a result. It's not all their fault though - a few years back there seemed to be a big push to attack Twitter over the actions of trolls. I still remember the BBC hit piece in 2013 where Paul Mason interviewed Oolon the creator of the Atheism+ BlockBot, and blindly accepted Quinn Norton's assertion that "men are raised to hate women". They showed the names of users the BlockBot creators deemed "abusers" (in reality it was people they didn't agree with) and urged everyone to sign up to it. Then they did a live interview with a representative from Twitter where the host threw one accusation after another at her and wouldn't let her answer any of the questions raised. Twitter was forced to make changes to appease the growing SJW crowd that threatened to destroy them. Now look where we are: block lists all over the place, anyone with a differing opinion labeled a racist, or a Nazi, or a White Supremacist; and users getting unverified, suspended or banned entirely because of flagging campaigns because it's easier to be offended than to read a collection of short tweets without personal bias. The irony here is that by doing all this, they've made a far bigger problem. You see once you label everyone you don't agree with as Nazis, KKK etc, the *real* Nazis and KKK members suddenly feel like they're not in the minority anymore. What we're seeing now is a polarisation of opinions, ideas and beliefs. You're not allowed to stand in the middle ground. You're not allowed to question what's said. You must believe, you must pick a side and you must repeat what everyone else is saying. This makes for a dark future indeed.
