I’m so glad they hid the Orlok design in the trailers and that I didn’t seek out any reviews. I went into Nosferatu as fresh as I possibly could and loved it. I was genuinely unnerved by every scene of Orlok. Perhaps not to the extent of audiences in 1922, but I think Eggers captured a similar magic by going back to Stoker’s novel as more of an inspiration, rather than trying to just recreate Nosferatu. He made a truly new Nosferatu experience, even if it shares many of the same elements.
I just saw this in a brand new Dolby Cinema last night. All I can say is WOW!! 🤯 What a masterpiece! I was smiling ear to ear the entire time, goosebumps, and tears of joy. The video and audio were absolutely incredible. This was hands down the best movie experience of my life. Thank you Robert Eggers and Dolby Cinema. And thank y’all for doing such amazing movie reviews! 😊
Just found you guys for nosferatu… crazy you don’t have more subs, excellent show! And the movie HOLY CRAP it’s fantastic. Memorizing visuals and sound design, the most atmospheric movie I’ve ever seen. 9/10 for me almost perfect

I loved Nosferatu so much, I saw it on Christmas day and again two days later! Eggers really brought back the terrifying and evil Vampire which was such a relief to see when we have so many "good" vampires nowadays with redeeming qualities and romance stories. Vampires, historically have been pure evil. I have been seeing so many critiques of the film with people trying to make the film into some romance between Ellen and Orlok, which is totally not what Eggers is trying to say. Amazing cinematography, and performances all around, especially Bill and Lily-rose! Loved this episode you guys!
Speaking as a fan of both the original and the Herzog version, I can officially say this film really was brilliant and worth seeing on the big screen. The camerawork and acting really shined though this film.
I love the movie and the idea of a movie where the vampire is related to the occult and demonology. This movie effectively delivered on this type of story. Nosferatu is a monster (in fact considered to be the undead plague carrier) and is primal in his motivation. He is death. His connection to Ellen and his motivation to seek her out is simply because of her psychic / paranormal abilities and this is what drew him to her. Finally, we have a vampire movie that doesn't follow the same old tropes. Vampires should not be sexy and monster movies should not be confused with romance.
Loved this movie. Immaculate costumes, sets, cinematography. Spooky gothic vibes. Great performances all eround too. Robert Eggers does not miss! Bill Skarsgard and Lilly Rose Depp were both excellent. Great review!
Just got back from the cinema, was so hyped to watch this after i saw the title of your review. I thought it was amazing!! My heart was still racing as i left the cinema. Not a horror fan but a big Eggers fan. Might be my new favorite. You boys were right and have great taste, aside from not liking Ricky Staniky which was a comedic delight 😂.
The stage coach scene is fantastic... but Thimas doesn't even walk into it... of you watch this scene carefully he literally floats into it, there is no stepping motion or anything... he just floats in towards the camera into the wagon.
That was precisely the moment where I plunged right in to the film. Lost sense of time where I couldn’t even say it was too long or too slow. Just plugged IN and having a three course meal of historical dialogue and fairytale bewilderment.
I have to see it a third time to be sure, but it might be one of my top movies period, certainly one of my favorite horror movies. Absolutely loved it, the only thing I was a little iffy on was ATJ acting in some scenes on my second viewing
It’s funny that you mention the lens choices, specifically the 50 mm, because in a very recent interview with Jarin the DP, he said they didn’t go below a 27 mm and didn’t really go higher than 35mm, only occasionally dipping into the 40 mm range. The technical aspect of the cinematography has a lot of nuance that will take multiple viewings to fully appreciate.
Liked and Subscribed. Great work. As of December 30, the vinyl soundtrack by Robin Carolan has sold out at Waxwork Records, but it's still available at Bare Bones Records in two formats ("Oxblood Red" and "Black").
I enjoyed it but I think I’ll like more on a second viewing and at home with a crisper picture. The movie theater screen wasn’t great for this. I was surprised to hear CGI wasn’t used for Orloc. He looked entirely CGI to me on the big screen, as did a lot of other things. Reminded me of The Wolfman a bit with the pace and tone, which I liked. The acting in this as top tier and Depp was incredible. Question for you guys : the scene where he pops out of the coffin, was that CGI or special effects?
Me too I think it could be his best, it’s magistral!!! I raced off to see it first showing Christmas Day and though I wasn’t scared unfortunately, no goosebumps, I was certainly awed by the visuals, absolutely! And must admit I was pretty disgusted more than a few times, especially combined with the outstanding sound effects
Dare I say it, as someone who holds the original Nosferatu in such high regard as a horror classic, I prefer Eggers' version. The more I think about this film, the more I love it.
I really liked this movie. I find it pretty fascinating how divided people are about it. I mean what did you expect this to be? Seemed like it's a well made gothic horror. 4.5/5 for me 👌
Thomas should have stayed safe in the convent and sent a letter to Ellen saying that their marriage is over and that he wants to stay away from her because she only attracts evil spirits and evil beings. If Thomas decides to become a secret agent, he should buy a volume of the book Malleus Maleficarum by Heinrich Kramer to investigate Ellen and her connection to the Vampire. Setting up an Inquisition court. And in the end she would be burned for her pact with the orlok. As they did with witches.
Good flick. Not Eggers best imo, “The Northman” was superior. Also not the best horror of the year, “The Substance” takes that crown. Again imo. This doesn’t even break my top 25 for the year 🤐
The cinematography, gothic production design, and some truly original shots are AMAZING and I wanted to love it... but the constant overacting and limited character work ultimately made it a baroque, melodramatic slog for me - although Depp's physical work was incredible, and Dafoe (as usual) was a breath of fresh air. Still think The Witch is Eggers best work. Just my two cents. Happy New Year!
I just do not understand the criteria for the hate of this film that I see other content creators spueing. The film is a 9/10 and could be a 10 on second view. Someone please explain the hate to me? I’ll wait
that tends to happen when people overrate the crap out of an average to good movie and repeatedly refer to it as one of the best ever when it's just okay 🤷
@@edmundburke2713 so I am assuming you think this movie is just okay then. Again, what is your criteria for it being just an okay movie? How are you rating it and what are you basing it off of? Why is it just good? Because haven’t seen a movie better than this one this year and we’ve been treated very nicely in the cinemas in 2024.
Did we watch the same movie? It's an exact remake of Bram Stokers Dracula. Lilly Depp was awful. Her spasm scene was so cringe to watch. She's not a good actress. The pacing was horrible. The connection between Lilly and Nosferatu was barely even established. It had potential and the blue scenes are good but the rest was a mess. Totally skippable
Tad it was terrible i dont know what these people are talking about after the first 25% of the movie there is nothing but a shaking girl and an un scary vampire with a mustache .I wonder who trims it for him . If he used 300 sun block he could of gotten a second date because her simpy useless husband didnt confront the vampire once just hid .terrible
Eggers best work??? I thought it was arguably his weakest. Still a great movie in many respects but this film isn’t on the same plan of existence as The Lighthouse
I just recommended your Nosferatu review to a friend but I'm afraid I have to UNSUBSCRIBE after watching your 'Oscar Snubs' video. You, like the Academy, forgot about "Nightcrawler" and Jake Gyllenhaal's amazing performance. ;)
Yikes! I adore horror but wasn’t a big fan of this. Visually stunning and you really got a grass roots feel for the characters, they looked like normal people which was great. The vampire itself lacked power and was revealed too soon in Mho. Not exactly too novel, Nosferatu or the series Salem’s Lot had the rotting rat like presence. More art than horror however thrilled that so many others love it. We wait so long for decent horror.
Ohhh no guys I usually agree with you guys but dude this movie put me to sleep, like the cinematography was great but it was so slow and the old English got really annoying. And his mustache and the way he rolled his R's when he spoke and it took him 10 minutes to say one sentance. Also that deep girl is not a good actress,.... my god I couldn't wait for this to end. But I don't like any of his movies, the northmen was the only one I thought was ok. Come on guys, just try and do better lol
Just say you didn’t like it. It's absolutely ok to not like a movie. These guys liked it. That's it. It has nothing to do with them "doing brtter." That's an odd take. Lol.
This was THE worst vampire movie ever! To dark, couldn’t really see the vampire, and the fucking subtitles. You must not get out much.Dont waste your money.
Did we see the same movie? Clunky, archaic dialogue, risible over-acting, and 2+ hours of slow-burn exposition that could have been handled in 1 1/2 hours, to say nothing of a throw-away climax (was Nossy that stupid?) make this version a sad shadow of the original. But then again, uninspired remakes of classics are the sign of our times.
The first half of the movie felt almost like a dream. And a reoccurring nightmare
I’m so glad they hid the Orlok design in the trailers and that I didn’t seek out any reviews. I went into Nosferatu as fresh as I possibly could and loved it. Exactly. He was being transfixed by Nosferatu, that was all done on purpose

Absolutely loved this movie. Scary and wonderful. Well worth the wait.
Eggers keeps getting better every movie. This film was a banger!!!
I don't know who Eggers has pissed off in Hollywood but it feels like he's ignored in awards season.
LEGIT
horror is always ignored for awards. and to them, the northman was a weird movie that was ultimately stained by being a massive box office flop
I have to see it a third time to be sure, but it might be one of my top movies period, certainly one of my favorite horror movies. Absolutely loved it, the only thing I was a little iffy on was ATJ acting in some scenes on my second viewing
Amazing
Loved it.
Thanks .
It’s funny that you mention the lens choices, specifically the 50 mm, because in a very recent interview with Jarin the DP, he said they didn’t go below a 27 mm and didn’t really go higher than 35mm, only occasionally dipping into the 40 mm range. I raced off to see it first showing Christmas Day and though I wasn’t scared unfortunately, no goosebumps, I was certainly awed by the visuals, absolutely! And must admit I was pretty disgusted more than a few times, especially combined with the outstanding sound effects
“But who was flickering the lights?”
Can't wait to see it
I think the name he mentions is Isaak Newton would crawl back in the womb haha 😄

In wonder if Robert Eggars offered Rob Patt a role, but turned it down because he refuses to ever be in a vampire movie again 😂
Been excited for this Episode from the moment i watched the movie.

I really liked this movie. I find it pretty fascinating how divided people are about it. I mean what did you expect this to be? Seemed like it's a well made gothic horror. 4.5/5 for me 👌

Absolutely
Thomas should have stayed safe in the convent and sent a letter to Ellen saying that their marriage is over and that he wants to stay away from her because she only attracts evil spirits and evil beings.
If Thomas decides to become a secret agent, he should buy a volume of the book Malleus Maleficarum by Heinrich Kramer to investigate Ellen and her connection to the Vampire. Setting up an Inquisition court.
And in the end she would be burned for her pact with the orlok. As they did with witches.
🤘🏻❤️🤘🏻❤️🤘🏻❤️🤘🏻❤️ Do you think with NOSFERATU Box Office Sucess and The script being finished do you think 'THE KNIGHT' will be his next film !?!?!?
HOPEFULLY
Nosferatu was great. Vampire movies are great again.
yes!
Robert Eggers is 4/4 to me. Easily the best modern director

this movie wasnt all that and wasnt that scary.the vampire was the drummer for foghat
The only missing piece for me was an exorcism subplot where they banish the bad acting from Aaron Taylor Johnson’s body.
I honestly thought this movie was dreadful and unintentionally comedic at times.
The jumpscares were decent, though.
LMAO you unironically just said the jump scares were the only good thing in the movie

This is the equivalent of “you’ve lost a customer”
Thanks!!
“Unsubscribed” is a long-running joke within the podcast and an unofficial slogan, they’re not leaving 👍

Stop say this crazy thing. N is boring e superficial. Youn critics have poor taste.
How
I get the “high praise” but outside Dune 2 and Minus 1 most movies were SHIT this year
Lol.
If you disliked all of his movies why keep torturing yourself? You don’t go to a rock festival if you despise rock music.
Respect your opinions!
@raidersofthelostpodcast_ yeh I sound like a hater, my bad, I love your channel tho you guys are awesome
You liked this ??? Ohh unsubscribed for sureeeee lol and I don't care what anyone says but speed 2 is William Dafoe best movie hands down lol
You still have a chance to delete this. Lol.
@@EzeICE do not feed them, they only grow stronger.
@gizmo_54 True, you're right. A momentary lapse of reason
Nope. This movie was mediocre at best. Hollow, shallow, drab, etc etc…
This movie sucks , not scary at all , very silly characters, boring dialogue. Again not scary at all . Totally disappointed
