      @@josesoto9335 yEAH OKAY IF YOU ARE A TALENTED RUNNER AND KNOW HOW TO DO IT FINE.
      Sorry for caps xD
      Bzt the toebox of this shoe is very small and your toes are being pinched together. Your big toe needs to spread out to stable your feet but its not possible in this shoe, so they make them very cushioned and they make an arch support in it which will make your arch very weak.
      The cushioning is also not healthy because you dont know your limits and you think everything is fine but your weight cant go away with cushion :)
      You got an very huge heel to toe drop that makes you land on your foot balls/pad which leads to problems when you are older. Like this your weight cant spread all over your foot and you are getting weaker and your foot wont feel fine.
      And your achillies is also very weak pecause its not fully extanded.
      Im trying to imagine how fast Eliud Kipchoge would be inf he had used Barefoot shoes since he ran.

    • @v4led
      @v4led 2 роки тому

      * I forgot that your toes are raised in this shoe and not flat like they are barefoot.
      If they are raised up your arch is everytime under pressure. While being barefoot its not the case. Try it out.

      @@v4led Your description of the issues you have with the Alphafly are the opposite of what I find. The Vaporflys have a tighter toebox, I find the Alphafly have much more accomodating room. Also you mention it has a very huge heel to toe drop but its actually a 4mm offset, the Vaporflys have the bigger offset of 8mm. Are you sure you aren't getting confused between the two?
      If you do find the Alphafly tight in the toebox area, you must have pretty wide feet. I only find them narrow in the arch area but nothing I can't live with.

    I swore when I first laid eyes on this shoe that I would never put such a monstrosity on my feet. It’s those “air pods” that most put it over the top for me. But I have to say from your B-roll footage that it looks like it suits your mechanics extremely well. You look effortless, stable and nimble. I’m sure we’re all interested to hear a direct comparison with the Next%. It’s interesting that air pods almost seem like a loophole or roundabout way Nike devised to incorporate a 2nd plate (which isn’t allowed), since you said it functions that way. Martha

    Just a small comment on the plate, it doesn't actually bend that much. What it does do is restrict the bending of the toe joint and decrease the work the calf muscles have to do, saving energy over longer efforts.

    Contrary to popular belief the spoon shaped plate in Nike carbon plated shoes does not act as a springboard that potentiate the windlass effect of the plantar fascia. Instead it acts as a lever that stiffens the MTP ( big toe ) joint and transfers forces through the more mobile ankle joint

    You’re super handy with the selfie stick while running. Slowly working on my stick game! Thanks for the inspiration!
    Ps. Only if you care- I noticed in your time trials/threshold video/this that when you end intervals and slow down to a slower pace and during fatiguing efforts, your left foot starts to turn and roll inward collapsing your knee (I’ve rewatched a few videos a couple times and it’s not too noticeable). When moving fast and early in faster runs you move very well. Generally, strengthening glutes and simply being mindful of a straighter toe off during fatiguing portions and while slowing down can help.
    Thanks again for the content!

    I had the same odd feeling of negative drop, especially when not running, but I think it's because that super tall heel stack is compressing so much, even while you are standing still with weight evenly distributed, while the zoom air pods remain firm with a lower amount of zoomx above it. So the forefoot won't compress as much. But it's not an issue once you start moving.

    Landing on the outside of the foot is completely standard, is a function called dorsiflexion. It's a natural cushion for the body. Also, carbon plates don't bend and release back energy. They provide structure and rigidity for the shoe. Read some papers on this, there's several published.

    Nice colourway, the shoes really ‘popped’ on the footage. I agree, they are a quick shoe and the idea they allow you to go faster than perhaps you should. The Vapourfly for me feels like it’s taking direction, whilst Alphafly just wants to keep pushing. I think these work, planning to use them for my half time trial in December. My original pair split, first time out. Replacement been okay (low mileage) but I predict durability in terms of retaining the propulsion to be low.

    Great review Michael! I love the Alphafly and I agree that they can push you harder than you want (need) to. I feel that I have to be disciplined at the start of my run, but what a great situation to be in!! I personally don't feel any zero to negative drop when walking around in them; if anything they are always tipping me forward. I would be interested in your thoughts when you have run a race in them, half or full marathon. I ran my first marathon in them last week and they were great, except they made me go out too fast; back to my lack of discipline I think :-)

  • @Rich-zb7vc
    @Rich-zb7vc 3 роки тому

    I imagine the plate might affect your perception of the drop, hence you feel like it has less than the 10-degree advertised. I think the bigger issue is the unusually high stack height, this will create a higher fulcrum (more ankle sprains) and more pronation (even you were pronating more than you pronated in your Road Runner insole video- yet you were still within a healthy range, you are pretty efficient). I think the bottom line is for those who this show is designed for I believe it is great- meaning, elite runners at 4:34 mile pace have a much more efficient footstrike and spend less time with their foot in contact with the ground so for them it makes a dramatic difference, but for those over 6-minute pace, it is a novelty shoe that could lead to injuries. Don't get me wrong, I like novelty shoes, wore them before, and understood the inherent risk- but there is a risk especially to anyone slower, heavier, or more over pronated.

    I went for Mango Vaporfly Next% as slow runner and I liked them a lot. Maybe this Alphafly works with forefoot strikers but heel-to-midfoot strikers get natural form with higher heel drop?
    Would be nice to invest to Alphafly even I know it's not making me any faster ☺️ supporting economy of the world is certainly great thing.

    @kofuzi You really took this shoe on a gravel road? 🙈🙈🤯🤣
    Hm, I would advise not to do that as the ZoomX is very delicate and breaks down quickly when compressed and poked by rocks. If you want to get more miles out of it, I would stick to smooth road surfaces/concrete etc. 😉

      I am a UK Size 8 and I bought Size 8.5 and they are perfect with thin socks too. My advice would be to go up a half size. If shoes are too tight, you cannot wear them, if they are slightly loose, a thick pair of socks will remedy it.

    I found my arches of both foots have blisters after running for about 10K, the footbed (insole) seems too narrow and protrude which causes this. Other than this problem Alphafly is a pair of fantastic shoes.
