Humpback Whale Attempts to break up Violent Dolphin Sex

I struggled with the title of this video nearly as much as I struggled to understand what I was witnessing on this day in Exmouth Gulf.
I watched the water boil again and again as this huge pod of dolphins turned to a giant chaotic splash. The gang of male dolphins repeatedly isolated the single female from the pod to attempt to forcibly mate with her.
But the wild doesn’t stop there…
A nearby humpback whale appeared to object to this behavior and swooped in and aggressively pursued this pod of dolphins almost as if to help the victimized dolphin!
