    When we test gear for the SUPboarder reviews we end up doing a few sessions like this one. Using gear in a wide range of conditions and by paddlers of all abilities is very important to get a good feel for any SUP gear.
    In this session myself and Lucy go out for a paddle on the new Starboard 2020 race boards. The Sprint and the All Star have changed a lot this year and we look forward to getting them on the water again, and releasing the full review of these boards soon.
    We were also trying a few Palm products too. The Palm Glide waist PFD is regularly worn by the SUPboarder team for these types of paddles but the Palm Ace is a new PFD for us. It was a good opportunity to use this sleek PFD/ buoyancy aid, to find out the pros and cons of wearing a more traditional style PFD in an environment where you're paddling hard and not wanting to restrict your movement. Look out for the review feature on PFD's soon too.

    Great vid and love seeing you both out there and swapping boards. I'm due to get on a 2020 AS soon, the 24.5 but have been on the 2019 in 23.5 and 26 and a 2018 24.5. To me the 26 was a great crusing board, good DW, so stable and smooth an incredibly easy as it required almost no footwork to ride bumps. Ideal for heavy downwinders or nasty chop and bigger paddlers. The 23.5 is a different animal its a touch quicker but with far far less primary stability. For me at 190lbs and 6'1" its a touch too narrow and not faster than the 24.5 - Starboards guide on paddler weights is pretty spot on. But I will say bump catching on the 23.5 is amazing! It catches things I have never caught on any board and with less effort. Maybe the Ace was as good but its remarkably better than any other allstar I have ever been on. Love how each generation of allstar becomes more versitile and more Ace like in bumps.

    Loved that Reuben, I've been getting proper into supping this year and it is reassuring to see that little cross chop isn't just my nemesis. See how I'm getting on if you like, I posted my latest isup vid of this weekends trip! Your advice of getting the 11-4 Quroc was absolutely spot on! Thanks again! Steve

    The newer style will be way less drag,faster and funner on waves the old style has more surface tention so slower but more balance.

    What's with not zipping the wet suit closed?!

    • @SUPboardermag
      @SUPboardermag  4 роки тому

      Hey Dave. When we are doing paddles like these involving downwinding and paddling hard. I like to keep the wetsuit undone to not restrict movement. I will only do the wetsuit neck up when if get colder or am not paddling as hard. Thanks Reuben

    A comparison between Sprint 22" and Allstar 24,5" would have been better.

    • @SUPboardermag
      @SUPboardermag  4 роки тому +2

      Hey Zune. thanks for your comment. Yes this would of been better for a straight comparison. But these were the first boards available in the country . And for the main SUPboarder review we will be highlighting the changes for the new boards not doing a comparison like we did in the last year Starboard race video ua-cam.com/video/o2Ri9_f3Za0/v-deo.html .I would like to have the whole range to test really :-) Thanks Reuben

      Thanks! Personally, I´m more interested in a comparison 2019-2020 Sprint - Sprint and especially Allstar-Allstar since I have a 2018 Allstar 24,5 that I like a lot.Nice location by the way!

    Your not on your sweet spot rueben your nose should be above the water not cutting through it. Step back 3 inches. You probably knew that but proper for the veiwers aye.

      Great comment Sonja, very observant. But I wouldn’t worry about my stance in this video. Whenever we get new boards we will be using the boards in lots of different standing areas. And also the way you ride the Sprint can be very different to the All Star in different conditions. Thanks Reuben
