Great video packed with lots of info for newbies. I've been raising them for almost 10 years, started with jack o lantern pumpkins, and then upgraded to big max 120- 200 lbs. I donate all of them to neighbors and friends and local farmers market, it's addicting.
I tossed a pumpkin last year into my compost pile, it rolled down to sit in between my compost pile and my top soil pile, it started to grow this year and has some leaves on it almost 2 foot across, it picked just about the most prefect place ever to grow. I can't wait to see how big the pumpkins grow, i covered all the ground with grass clippings so it doesn't have any competition at all.
@@strat458796 yeah it sucks. I moved the compost pile and we put the surprise cantaloupe from this year back into it and we sat 4 pumpkins on it. Had a long talk with the farmer and he's gonna let me take care of the fence line from now on. Much love.
You got me confused for a sec cuz you said my not me. So spell right, use the right words and punctuation to prevent that next time. Btw im not mad at you i just gave you a tip to prevent confusion at poeple like me reading your comment.
Love your enthusiasm! I've grown a large pumpkin before, but maybe 20lbs. I've got a new variety this year that promises 100lbs! We'll see, but you have a new subscriber.
Yes you can. But you need to grow the small variety. Like Wee B little pumpkins. Un grow them in a pot and set a tomato trellis. As far as they get nutrients, water and sun it is possible
@@leidycasadiego3535 You guessed it right! I did it! They are growing slowly but God knows what will happen lol I wish I could grow a giant pumkin in a room but I'm not really sure about it lol Thanks for answer Leidy Cachaplita. Nice to talk with you.
I have 2 pumpkin plants(ez grow monster)in the ground about the same size as soil kings in this video so I’m interested in the comparisons between the soil kings and my pumpkins 🎃
About to plant a Jarradale Blue Pumpkin and would like it to be as big as possible since in is a medium-small variety. Would following the same recommendations you make here work for my project?
I’m an experienced grower and have grown just about anything you can name! March through October we grow about 90% of our food. I’ve recently, 2 years ago, become interested in growing giant watermelon, last year I grew my largest to date that weighed 238 lbs! I’ve got one that’s probably going to surpass that weight on the vine right now, that still has about 40-50 days left on the vine. I’m wanting to get into growing giant pumpkins as well. I’ve grown pumpkins before, many varieties. However, I need to find a good source to obtain seed from… suggestions would be great!
First time viewer here, rookie gardener, on my 4th year growing pumpkins in Iowa, 39yr old man. My question is....when it comes to the Big Max seeds, would it be possible to grow 2+ large pumpkins on one vine if you fertilize more often? I basically use a 10-10-10 miracle grow dry fertilizer, then I have like two other liquid fertilizers as things progress
Hi guys, I tried growing pumpkins for a few years in a row but kept having vine borrowers bug that were in my vines and killing my plants. My question is what do you use to prevent these worms from eating the vines?
Are they sunflowers growing next to your pumpking patch ? I heard from Elliot Coleman that sunflower seeds contain an enzyme that prevents other seeds from sprouting. It's called allelopathy. When sunflower seeds drop from the plant or a bird feeder they release the enzyme into the soil, preventing germination. That's why it's not a good idea to put a bird feeder close to a garden started from seed directly into the soil.
@@FromTheDeskofAntoinetteSmith It really depends on what climate zone you're in. California it's in April that I start cracking the seeds and then put them outside in May
Hi there. I'm very interested in getting started with giant pumpkins on my farm. Looks like it could be really fun for me and the kids. Of course the kids are adults now but they still like to get involved. Any advice on getting some seeds so I can get started? Thank you in advance.
I would search on Google for Utah giant pumpkin competition, there’s a website there where you can order seeds from. Giant pumpkin grown is amazing, you and your kids are gonna love it
lol he literally gave almost no useful info here... was basically just "buy my crap!" when it said "how to grow giant pumpkins" i actually expected some info on how to do it... like best time of the year to plant them, specific parasites to watch out for and the best way to get rid of them... when the best time to harvest is.... not just what kind of overpriced dirt the dude uses.
That kind of stuff happens all the time, sometimes you can get a little bit of rot at the root going into the pumpkin and it can create a hole and fill up with water routing from the inside out. Out. You could have some bad pathogens that sit underneath the pumpkin while eating up through the bottom causing the same effect. Giant pumpkin growing is amazing, but getting to the finish line with me is about one out of every three or four years
@@thesoilking Yeah i'm still learning my other one is 50lb which survived until Halloween i bought the seeds from Canadian tire for like a few bucks which isn't bad at all and pumpkins are expensive here in Canada so it's worth it just to grow your own, i would love to get the real giant seeds someday.
"im here to teach kids how to grow stuff so i'll start with a potting mix that would be ideal for advanced marijuana grow operations!" if you're trying to teach kids something, keep it simple. most kids out there wont know wtf you're talking about when you start rattling off special soil and fertilizer mixes like that, hell most adults i know would be looking at you like you have 3 heads.
