Great video and car. I can still hear the familar 1zz engine note, despite the extra punch and pull. Your scenery looks surprisingly similar to mine in the Adelaide Hills in Australia, despite being on the other side of the world!
That MR2 is so under-rated and I hope it stays that way. I would love to get one and do a 2ZZ swap and turbocharge it. That would be one hell of a beast.....S2000 what?
Good, i used a 2zz it was fun but difficult to stay over 6000 rev on trackday (you Always need to stay on High rev ) , now i have a 1zz forged con rod and wiseco low ratio pistons and td06 16g 650cc injectors, i dont Know How much power , this engine is installed but need to be tuned, i have a pfc, but i cant tune it by myself.....i Hope this engine will be fun and reliable
Good video of a very nice car! My car has only 32000 miles and would like to turbo its standard 1ZZ. You say 233 hp, is that to the road or at the flywheel? Also can I ask what settings you use for the MeisterR coilovers? I have just received my MeisterRs and will fit them next week.
Cheers buddy, 233bhp is fly wheel. Coilovers wise I run them around 5 clocks from the softest setting for the road, then on track 10 from softest on the front, 15 on the rear. It depends on the track and tyres etc. I run 3.5 degrees camber on the front and 3 on the rear. With zero toe in on the front and 0.1" on the rear.
@@mr2roadsterturbo ah fantastic! Can I ask how much you lowered your car? I'm thinking currently (on standard wheels and tyres) to drop my car at the front by 25-30mm and the rear by as little as 10mm?
It was originally lowered on the tein springs and these were set at the same height, I've since put it up by around 10mm all round as it wasn't fitting on ramp for alignment and grounded itself getting off the drive at home!
@@mr2roadsterturbo ok I've got you. Thanks so much for your response, you've been really helpful. I very much look forward to updates to what you do with your car!
Car looks 👍 What steering wheel hub are you using? I struggled to find one that enables the indicators to work correctly, as the clock spring keeps failing!
Not long picked up a 2001 spyder, it's had a later 1zz put in it at some stage. I'll be putting a gt2554r on it with a celica gt4 w2a intecooler I have in the shed. Can't help myself. I boost all my 4ag's, so why not the 1zz. Seems they can handle it ok.
@@mr2roadsterturbo nice numbers on a stock engine, ive got a forged tracktoy mx5 turbo but just bought a mk3 mr2 to daily, cant decide 2zz or turbo ( ive had a corolla tsport in the past)...
I very nearly went mx5 before this, if its a daily two trains of thought. 1. 2zz power is up the top end, so you'll need to go e it some to feel it as a daily. But... You're not stressing the motor beyond what it's made for. 2. 1zz turbo, you'll feel the difference more due to the increased torque low down, so would feel the benefit more as a daily, but you're stressing the engine much more... 2zz can be done cheaper, but as you'll know from your mx5 turbo's are addictive.
Just got a 2000 spyder and am really excited to play around with it. I hear of a V6 swap but I think o will I just turbo the 1zz for now. Anyone got any forums that I can look over. (Btw literally never altered a car before..)

@@mr2roadsterturbo Thanks! I was thinking about a T28 unit. Complete newbie to turbocharging, what's your experience with the Apexi unit? Was it easily enough to install???
Yeah apexi was really easy, however I'll caveat the use of the Apexi as I picked it up for £400 with everything I needed and wasn't particularly bothered if I blew the engine learning how to tune. But I research lots and lots before taking the plunge and also studied Automotive Design at Uni and whilst this was my first steps in turbo conversion territory it wasn't my first into engine swaps or turbo charged cars. @@mr2roadsterturbo Why spacers? Get some decent size wheels so you can run some nice fat ar1's. Buddy club 15x8 +32 with 245 40 ar1's fit on the spyder fine, same wheel with 225 45 ar1's on front. Such good tyres.
I built my own, based around a cast manifold (I do have the turbo kits.com one to use too). TD04 15t turbo, Emu black, ID1050x injectors, charge cooler, started out on an Apexi PFC, now on Emu black, walbro fuel pump.
ECU master has much better safety features and is a modern day ECU. Launch control, anti lag, switchable fuel and ignition tables, boost control, tons of extra features.
