Hopefully I understand your question. Apparently the factory changed the design in the mid 2010s. The ones I had used a hook to attach the cable to the rod that operates the gate. There is a hole in the side of the rod that the hook fits into. The newer ones no longer use a hole in the side of the rod, but rather have a hole in the end with a set screw. So for those, you insert the cable and tighten down the set screw. If you have the older style like I did, you can simply bend a hook in the end of the wire if you have to cut it shorter. It can be a challenge to bend the wire as it is pretty stiff, so perhaps that is why they went to the set screw approach.
