I watched over 10 videos on drain leaking. Yours by far was the most informative. I’m about to cut into mine, it’s leaking somewhere. Didn’t have time to look at it yet. Was actually dreading the job, not knowing what was up there. Weather a bad valve ( I hope) or a busted pipe, I feel like it want be as bad. Single digits temperatures now, I work on the road. The good thing I liked about your video was that fact you had problems with the seal, and you didn’t edit it out. That helps people know what or how to deal with issues. Great job on the wood.

I used this way of converting my existing standard pull valve to a cable pull to avoid crawling under my slid out to pull the gray tank valve. I contemplated dropping the whole underbelly, but made the smarter decision to do as you did. Glad I changed my mind! Thank you for this video!!

I have used grease to hold the seals in place and a 4" spackle knife to push seal/pipe apart while sliding the valve in place. Closing the belly pan with zip ties and Gorilla tape after wiping the surface with acetone/alcohal to prep. Works great!

I just bought a used Grand Design 22RBE and I have a full tank and it won't drain when I pull the black tank handle. SO, I'm getting ready to tear into it. Not sure how to get rid of the sewage first - I'm thinking about scarificing a wetdry vac and sucking the sewage through the open toilet. Your video was a great help. Many Thanks!!! Not all will come out just by twisting them but some do.

I like the way you used the wood to help reinforce the belly hole you cut. Nice video. It looks like the Valtera Valve replaced the LaSalle Valve fine. I will try it!

Thanks so much for showing us how to do this. Great job! I have replaced an external valve, and those are easy, of course. However, this type is quite a bit more difficult. Excellent instructional video !! My 1st time changing a valve in my 5th wheel after 13 years of ownership. Will be tackling this task within several days. Looks like having another set of hands to help payed off. Will report my results. Have documented the step by step instructions. Have 41 steps with a list of 19 tools & items needed to complete the job.

I like the way you sjhow thing thoroughly! I have one of these stupid set-ups with two separate dump lines. My galley plumbing hangs so low that I have knocked off to cap assemblies. I am hoping youcan show how to replumb that rear line so that it can be shortened or angled in a differentdirection so it is not hanging down at such a severe angle. Since it is only Gray water, I only hook up a 3/4" hose to it which works great.... when the connections are not knocked off! LOL
Next time you drag it off, replumb it the way you want to, so it won’t get damaged again.

Great idea/tip on using the furring strips to close up the access hatch. I have seen it where someone has just used tape before and after a season or two the tape lets go.
This works soooooo much better and just takes a few minutes.
Wish I could have seen the remote…. Very interested but I have 4 tanks to pull as they all 4 go through one 4” exit to sewer,
They call it remote for a reason......it's remote.
Appreciate how you showed the entire install including the problem getting the new gaskets to stay in place. Most others would of cut that out of the video and then proudly exclaimed "see how easy this is ! No problems whatsoever!! Only took 15 minutes!!" A question; can you cut the cable if you don't need the full 72" supplied? I gotta replace mine and I think the current cable is just 3'. Seems like using too long of a cable would lead to binding as you'd need to put in extra bends.
You would have to be SUPER careful when cutting the cable and you would have to end up with the same amount of cable past the sheath.
Pro Tip: pull the cable out of the sheath. Cut the sheath and them slide the cable back into the sheath.
Great video and process..until you went crazy with the gorilla tape. Those short sections around the drain pipe will be gone after a few trips. Good work on the fla, but i would spend the $11 for a can of black expanding foam. Much better hold and less chance of rodent entry.
I have never had success putting Great Stuff foam overhead in a big gap.
I have to replace mine I wish you where closer to me so I could hire you. I know mine has stuff in it it wouldn’t dump last weekend when I used it. Ugggg

Hello great video I’m getting ready to replace the black water waste valve cable actuated Valterra has 2 kinds listed a SPB and PBC any idea which one I would use or is there no difference
Not sure. I just buy the whole thing as a set so the cable and valve are compatible.

It comes with a new cable, why not change it? Yours could be hard to move because the cable is bad.
VERY helpful video! How do you go about changing the valve when it won't work at all and your black tank is full? When the lever is pulled, nothing is draining out of the tank. Help! Thank you!
You have to get it open first or you are going to have a HUGH problem and it is going to be all over you.

Yes u did. But all I would of done was tapped it closed without the extra wood and screws. That gorilla tape is super strong. Again GREAT video! Thanks!!

Great job, it looked like you replaced the LaSalle Bristol valve with a Valterra valve. I have two black and two grey valves on my 5th wheel that need replacing, is it possible the bolt patterns are the same and the two brands are interchangeable?
I have never run across a different bolt pattern.
I would think tightening the sheath connector would cause the cable inside to have more resistance to moving back and forth. What do you think?
The valves that I use have a clamp on the sheath that won't allow you to over tighten it.
I realize this video is 3 years old but I'm hoping you can answer a question I have. I am in the process of replacing my black tank valve. It's a Lasalle Bristol 3" valve with a 72" cable. I managed to get the bad valve out and need to order a new one. They all come with the PVC flange on both sides. I don't need the flanges because the ones I have are fine and glued on to the waste pipe. I just need the valve itself that fits between the flanges. If I buy a new valve assembly and take the bolts out, can I use just the valve, rubber gaskets and cable or are they glued on from the factory? Thanks.
Absolutely. I don’t change the flanges unless there is something wrong with them. Have fun.

Excellent! My valve is partially open and the black tank isn't holding water. Un fortunately I have vent pies coming down too so sewer pipe after the valve will not move freely and I think I will have to wedge something to keep the valve pipe ends apart to be able to slide the new valve assembly between them. Question: Did you pull out a LaSalle Bristol valve and replace it with a Valterra? Are they interchangeable/standard?

Because we didn't have any foam. We taped it up.
