Ethically, I disagree with the hack in the end of the video. When I do an HCI experiment, if I want to show the pros of my design, I have to find a state of the art to compare with. And typically, this state of the art is not really a terrible design as it must be at least something commonly used by a majority of users. This might lead to less contrast effect as comparing with a terrible design, but if my design outperforms, it actually works. The trick presented in the video might work with people who don't have deep knowledge in the field. But in a bad day, when there is some design/research expert in the room, well, good luck to you.

I think it's a great creative exercise to consider the very opposite of design goals. Like, how might we make a landing page that the visitor would leave immediately? How might we design a tube that retains the maximum amount of toothpaste in the end? How might we design a car dashboard to make sure people get distracted and crash all the time? These exercises are fun to do, and effective at revealing considerations/priorities for your final design. I agree that it's risky to present that kind of work to the "naive" colleague or client. But it's a useful creative exercise.
