They televised ballet back then. I wish they'd do it again. And thank heavens for John Clifford to give us all these invaluable gems.

MOLTO curato questo balletto anche dal punto di vista d'una narratio psicologica e duale che coinvolge i protagonisti con passi d'inventio inediti e positure figurali anche nuove.Molto bravi anche nella parte collettiva portata avanti con ottima inventiva.Bravissimi.Bighin GIULIO RENZO

Thank you for all of these wonderful memories of NYCB and the exquisite dancers who brought the genius of Balanchine onto the stage every night. These films take my breath away all over again.

I remember seeing this with this cast ( or Jean Pierre). It knocked my socks off! I just can’t tell you how sad that PDD with Kay and Peter was. It was almost watching an abusive relationship between an Angel and a devil.

Jesus wtf you are saying… they danced beautifully and they are friends. Please fact check all the things you are saying. They pissed off the major donars of NYCB so 2017-2018 were super crazy in NYCB and you literally affected by capitalism because this shitty me2 movement. THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL and nobody can replace them!

my god Kay Mazzo is flawless, how could so many great, different ballerinas exist in one universe?i think Peter’s body has changed from earlier performances, more cut, confident, generous with partner, IMHO. they have real chemistry and style together

How I miss "Dance in America". The camerawork was always so superior, and so many great works were preserved here. Is there a placde where the entire series is archived?

Breathtaking technique and musicality. Thrilling In that moment. The viewer yearns to break through the screen and dance with them. The energy incredible..a revelation. .Violin Concerto must be substantially more complicated than it looks because from what I've seen recently it requires a one of a kind virtuoso spirit like Balanchine to stage Balanchine. Sadly (like geniuses) virtually a lost commodity. -Thank God for film.

What a masterpiece! After watching that I think I enjoy Balanchine's style more than the classical ballet. Everything is so symmetrical, harmonic, dynamic, and moving🖤

That is something that I just LOVE about Dance in America, their camera work is perfect. Head to toe, very little noticeable editing. I always say Fred Astaire, said how to film dancers years ago.

This is such an astounding ballet. I just saw it again recently at Rebecca Krohn's farewell. It’s so instructive to watch older castings within the NYCB universe, not for the purpose of saying, “oh, this is better,” but to see how completely world-class dancers inhabit a role, and, though doing the same steps, make it their own. For instance, having been used to seeing Amar Ramasar in the first PDD the past little while makes seeing Bart Cook, with a completely different presence, very interesting. Kay Mazzo is incredible-the famous moment at the end of the second PDD is so resonant and sad here. Do you have Symphony in 3 Movements? I also want to thank you for taking the time for posting all this Balanchine - no matter how depressing the news, there’s always a wonderful way to escape on your channel.

I saw Krohn's farewell performance as well- she was absolutely stellar in this part. There is a lovely photo on Krohn's instagram site, of Karin Von Aroldingen coaching her for her final performance. Made all the more poignant by Aroldingen's recent death.

Mazzo so deeply inhabits the 2nd pas de deux, and so movingly conveys the underlying sadness w/o over-acting. One of Balanchine's greatest of his many pas de deux. I can't watch it enough.
