EP 148 - HAM International Viking - 80 channel AM/FM - strange crystal board fault.
What started out to be a easy job turned into a nightmare as something went faulty on the xtal board.
Handsome radio,I had one in the 80s it was on the zeros so not really good, but like the push /pull configuration and on the Harrier too very slick 👌
Its a nice way to make a hidden switch ;)
I've not seen one in a very long time. Happy memories 😊
Nice simple radio. good to have in my collection :)
@@MicroChipz I'd forgotten about the old Viking. Great to see one.
I would love a vikjing 3 , but i think they a rare as hens teeth.
Nice radio mate
Thanks 👍
Hiya mate I wouldn’t say failure more like a good recovery top video and a nice radio
Glad you enjoyed it
Picked one of these up a few weeks ago, managed to get the receiver side working still no transmit as yet ..
Check the diode behind the audio amp next to the metal shield , it looks like a bead , should have 13v on it , or maybe your rf output has gone ?
Thank you for the reply, it’s been a bit of a mission to be honest, I picked it up in a job lot of a have ago hero .
The new caps I ordered turned up today so I have just spent the last few hours scratching my head with it and when I started swapping them over one was actually in backwards ! ... so after swapping it over and a few other parts later all sorts of magical things started to happen . I now have pa and audio , new tx light is working and have 12v all the way up to d13 but unfortunately it does look like the finals ..
is there anywhere that you recommend to get a new replacement it has the original C103 in it , there are so many bad copy’s out there . Regards mark .
cricklewood electronics may have some
Once you've pushed the PLL into your mod board, if you look at 3:12 and again at 8:35, it looks as if there's something between pins 7 and 8, is there supposed to be a short here as part of the mod? Wondered if this could be the cause of instability? Another nice video!
Hi ,i did this video a while back, i "think" it was just a bit of wax, pins 7 and 8 are the MSB on the pll inputs . However well spotted there, if you look as i removed the PLL it was also there . I have just checked the unedited footage and its defiantly wax.
Can UK40 be added to a Colt 444 AM/FM version?
I did try on my HAM UK and failed , due to the pll.
@@MicroChipz OK, could the high block be trimmed enough to the uk offset to get 1-26 uk...?
I reckon it can with adding extra capacitance
