The shots of you in the chair with the book wide open shows that the Meike lens would work for me very well for similar shots of me talking into the camera. I can see the value in getting a 2.2 that is actually sharp wide open. Thank you. Helpful review.
aren't these made by the guy who created the vydra...i thought they went to meike when hydra went out of business. the vydra guy's design lens for meike now
Thanks for this review. I believe another issue with Rokinon (feel free to correct me if I’m wrong) is that all their cine lenses are designed for full frame coverage and then simply housed with different mounts. So the optics on the mft models aren’t engineered specifically for an mft censor, which is inevitably going to be a compromise in optical quality. I’ve always felt conflicted about which line of cine style lenses to invest in for mft. Either they’ve been too pricey for my budget like the Veydras, or they’ve come in a not-so-cine form factor like the Voigtlaenders, or they were too much of a compromise on quality like the Rokinons. So finally these Meikes have come along and they look like a dream come true for needs and budget. Hoping that they release the rest of the focal range before too long. I’ll be stocking up on all of them.
Hey, out of interest did you film using a matte box? As these are true cine lenses and have no lens hood I would have thought a matte box essential, only asking because I need to consider this if I decide to buy the Meikes?
Great review! There is an alarming lack of good reviews for the meike cine lenses on youtube, so it's awesome that you put it on yourself to create one. Question: does the chromatic abberation dissappear with any basic color grade, or do you have to do something special in post to remove it?
Thank you! In Resolve it was easy, I just take a clip with a lot of CA and used the color picker in Hue vs. Saturation and adjust it to my satisfaction. Then I saved it as a LUT so I can save time with other clips!
I recently bought a bmpcc4k and picked up a 16mm Veydra cheap 2nd hand, but cant find any more of them to make a set.... so im very interested in the comparison to the Meike....who might be a good replacement.
I just got my copy of the Meike 25mm T2.2 off eBay. I think it's broken though. The focus ring and outer barrel of the lens wiggles a ton on the base of the lens. The aperture blades also don't follow the ring unless you mess with it and keep wiggling it while rotating the aperture ring. It does still appear to be very sharp and I don't see any visual defects caused by this but it does not seem right and I think I am going to have to return it. Sad because it seems like a great lens from my first tests. Any chance yours is wiggly new from the factory and that's just how they are supposed to be?
Oh my! That doesn't sound like mine at all! The only issue I had was the focus barrel being a bit stiff and vibrating some while focusing. I didn't mention it in the review as I figured it would get batter as the grease spreads, which it has! Do you have any pictures of the lens? I really hope this isn't going to be a trend for the future lenses from Meike.
@@OskarHelgason It may not be any indication of Meike's build quality. I bought it on eBay "Brand New" and it clearly was not. I suspect someone dropped it or otherwise broke it, tried to fix it evidenced by the scratches and stripped set screws on the barrel and then resold it. I'm going to try to get a refund on eBay for it. I do have a video of it which I will leave in a separate comment that you'd probably have to manually approve since most people have URLs in YT comments blocked.
@@OskarHelgason Everything worked out. Got the money back from eBay, bought it on Amazon which ALSO ended up being wrong surprisingly. They sent me the Sony E-Mount version with a M4/3 sticker put over the Sony E-Mount sticker. After one more round of returns I finally have a good copy and it's become my favorite lens! I absolutely love shooting with it. I've already preordered the 16mm from B&H as well which hopefully should be releasing soon.
Good review and very nice color grading there. Seems to be an interesting option for my new Fuji X-T3, since my budget has been shortened badly buy this purchase :)
Any world on when they will start dropping more lenses? Do they have a "news" or "blog" anywhere online where they might drop that sort of information? Great review by the way. I have two Rokinon Cine DS lenses, the 14mm and the 35mm. Are they basically the same as the Samyang that you feature in this review? Thanks.
They were supposed to drop the 16mm last week. Their website is mkgrip.com but they aren't the best when it comes to news and updates. The best way to get information is to talk to their marketing manager Li Bruce directly on Facebook, or their Facebook group. Thanks! Not at all! Those are the only ones I have left, the 24mm really is the worst one in the bunch. I will try my hand at repairing the 35 and see how it compares (with a focal reducer) to the Meike.
Yes there will be a full set eventually. I have been working very closely with Meike on the cine lenses. The 35mm will be released in roughly July/August and the 50mm will be released another 2/3 months followed by the 85mm
"some ways even performs as a cinema lens", what are the ways it doesn't perform as a cinema lens? im looking to use it for indoor head and bodyshots that will have a cinematic look using the BMPCC
The only issue I would say is the chromatic aberration. Some argue it's "too sharp" and lacks "character" but that's really being picky, especially considering the price point.
I was kinda shocked by your footage from the Samyang 24mm at T1.5. I have that lens myself and have never seen anything like that. But, I think I might have a later version of the lens; I half-recall reading that the later versions were significantly better. I posted some of my own footage, shot at T1.5, on my channel if you fancy taking a look.
Haha oh, boy! I already have two now, what with getting the 16mm and all. How many of these will we end up with? I'm all for getting a cloth, that makes sense. Also saw some are shipping them with UV-filters, which I think is a great idea. But a chord? We get one for pretty much every camera we buy, are we now also going to receive them with every accessory we buy?
Cool, how do you like them? Yes, my suspicion is that they made some sort of deal with Veydras former manufacturer in Shanghai (Meike are located in Shenzhen) Jag bor i Södertälje, strax söder om Stockholm.
No. They do sell it in Sony E-Mount but they only cover Aps-c sized sensors, so they work on the Sony a6000 range of cameras, not full frame unfortunately. Have you considered the SLR magic 25mm Microprime? They are a bit more expensive but they cover full frame.
@@rajveerrajebhosle3710 I would still need to know a lot more to give you a good recommendation. Is that your budget for lenses specifically or your total budget? And how will you be using it? On a gimbal? Handheld, run and gun? Do you want a single lens or a set of lenses? These are all things you need to take into consideration when deciding.

The samyangs are great for full frame sensors and still decent on super 35 but on M4/3 they really aren't sharp enough without a speedbooster

hi Dear, Please tell me, Can I going for Samyung Lenses..?
3:35 bro, the samyang is so much closer, that´s why the white wall goes out of the field of view.
I shot on a tripod. They are at the same distance, nothing was moved between the shots.

Geezus that Samyang must be made of plastic lenses, surely this can't be glass !
Won't last long it will loosen after time on the aperture ring.
Mine has lasted well over a year without issue.
T2.2 vs T1.5?😂
Yes?
Both look awful
