  • In this video I explain why I moved to Israel and discuss moving because of money. Here are some reasons for moving to Israel. Are you wondering, should you move to Israel? Well, I discuss the cost of living in Israel and I explain why moving to save money might make sense. I also briefly discuss what its like to live in Israel and some financial reasons you need to move. Some questions I address include: What is it like to live in Israel? Should you move to Israel? Can you save money if you move? Can you save money by moving to Israel? should you make aliyah ? should you make aliyah now? can you save money if you move to Israel? why make aliyah? why move to Israel? how to save money by moving? These are just my financial reasons for moving to Israel and some financial reasons to move / money reasons to move. Why I am moving for financial reasons.

    I've only been once and I had a really wonderful time..even witnessed a miracle when I went on a date with an IDF soldier and he took me to the beach and on our way home, his car broke down and everyone came to help him. Around 10 minutes later, about 20 people were trying to help us fix his car. What a beautiful country and wonderful society to live in.

    • @miriamstrauss
      @miriamstrauss  2 роки тому +2

      I disagree. Israel has some of the best universities in the world at a fraction of the cost and many Ivy League schools are overrated, especially for the price. For example, professors who teach at NYU and Columbia also teach the same courses at the local city college in NYC. My brother also went to MIT and my other brother went to Princeton. I’d much rather my children go to university in Israel then to any Ivy League university personally. The price for value is a much better deal.

    Hahaha..you're sweet but i must also question whether we are living in the same world[or country for that matter]. I am a returning citizen after 30 years in Australia and i am going through the same experiences as you as far as re-establishing myself over here. I have listened to a couple of your videos and it made me giggle a little when you mentioned how cheap it is here[i think you said you only spent $70 per month on food? You must be living on croutons lol] I think there could be a couple of reasons. One: You are still in the honeymoon period of absorption and Two: You ae making far more income than the average Israeli.[Average wage between 8-10k P.M]
    I still don't understand the value of shekels as i am still used to Australian Dollars therefore i have to convert prices to Oz$ in order to understand the value of things and let me tell you, this country is so friggn expensive it is quite scary. Rents to income ratio is scary[more than 50%], car costs are insane, lack of competition makes prices of groceries twice as expensive as in Oz[and Oz is quite expensive]. Nevertheless, it is very interesting to hear about someone else's experience maybe from a higher echelon, but you can also build quite a lot of hype for people who aren't as high who might think that this is a paradise, it is not. It is very hard to survive here and unless you have a big "minus"[the term we use to describe overdraft], it is very hard to finish the month[wait till you have kids lol] .
    I guess i am still used to the politeness and courtesy of Aussies which i definitely didn't find here[particularly on the roads lol..have you driven here yet?], to me it is a pressure pot with never ending rudeness and lack of courtesy in caparison hahaha...nonetheless, a challenge i am willing to take on as a single guy with no kids, debt, or other imprisoning obligations:)
    I sincerely wish you all the best of time and easy absorption into this manic world:)

    • @miriamstrauss
      @miriamstrauss  3 роки тому +2

      I’m from NYC so I’m comparing it to that. NY drivers are way more crazy and people in NYC are more rude so here they’re honestly really nice in my opinion hahah. Just goes to show it’s all relative 😂 and yes, I make a good salary. I also had an asterisk in that video where I said I spent $70 on food and under the asterisk by the miscellaneous $200 charge I couldn’t identify, I mentioned that some of that $200 was probably food. I also eat very little naturally. If I go out to a restaurant, that dish can last me 2-3 meals. I don’t have kids yet, so none of those costs. I’m fortunate to have a good job and cheap rent, I totally agree! My experience is just mine but I totally recognize many don’t have the same experience! I also split bills with my fiancé!

      No worries ! I don’t know as much about Haifa prices. I just know it’s beautiful there. It also depends on how many rooms you want in the apartment. From what I understand though, Haifa is MUCH more affordable than Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. My husband says a 120 square meter 5 room apartment in a central area in Haifa with a view of the sea is about 2.3 Million shekel (approximately $650,000 in USD).

    But New York is very expensive you would save more in Texas or Florida, I’ve lived in Israel everything is super expensive from groceries to rent and to buy a house, but if you’re a religious Jew I understand that you have to live in a religious area so you can get kosher food and private school for kids but you really can’t buy land like you can in America and most people in Israel live in apartments which is not so appealing to me. And you don’t have Amazon or stores like Walmart which makes life way easier and more convenient Israel is really not convenient at all other than the public transportation

    • @miriamstrauss
      @miriamstrauss  2 роки тому +9

      This is true but depends on priorities. My priority is having a sense of community and a good education system and healthcare system for my children. America is easier to shop and consume stuff with easy to access shopping centers and online retailers, but I’m not big on consumerism. Israel makes me consume less and save more because I just don’t buy the stuff from Walmart and Amazon that I otherwise would have. I don’t buy the more expensive alternatives in Israel either. I actually come to america twice a year with an empty suitcase and stick up in new clothes from TJ maxx and I only let myself shop for clothes twice a year. Then I buy toiletries here in Israel but I only buy what I need and I don’t buy the millions of “cheap” Garbage stuff I don’t actually need off Amazon. Plus, Amazon now delivers to Israel if your cart is $50 or over anyways, but if it’s less than $75 you won’t pay a customs fee so it makes me really budget my Amazon spending, which is nice. Not to mention, I don’t mind paying more for a home in a place where the (a) the home will likely continue to increase in value so it’s a good investment; (b) you can house hack and have a tenant help you pay your mortgage; (c) these days many people are bringing remote jobs from abroad to Israel so I for example am making an American salary while living in Israel and also salaries are increasing a lot here anyways, especially in high tech; and (c) the community is is better here and my children will have access to more resources like a solid free education and really great healthcare. In America, people pay 50K a year for a child to go to elementary school or high school. That’s per child, per year. It’s wild. Healthcare is equally insane. I used to pay $700 a month for healthcare when I was self employed and a significant amount when I had a great job with good benefits. I’m not a religious Jew, but I also find that the community here is much more connected to eachother. I lived in america my whole life and it was dam near impossible to build lasting friendships and deep connections. People are so transient, moving all over from one place to the next in a large country and never keeping in touch, plus people care more about shallow consumerism and having the bigger better car, house, etc. than they do about making a deep personal connection and finding people who share common values and ideologies. My friends used to go out to party and drink. Here my friends go to do BBQs in their back yards and go for hikes or to the beach or to the dog park and people really discuss life and share personal stories and you build a genuine connection. People also really value family and culture and taking time away from work here. The culture is so much more rich. I also don’t feel a need to keep up with Joneses here, which I love. For all of those reasons, I don’t mind paying a little more for some things to live here. I think you pay more in some respects, but you get more value out of life than what you do in america for things you pay more for.

    Can I still move to Israel 🇮🇱 and get those benefits if I’m not Jewish? I’m Hispanic

      Many hispanics have Jewish Sephardic heritage. Before the inquisition, spain was 70% Jewish, many became catholic. May be worth investigating.

      Google a company called Nefesh B’Nefesh. Start an application on their website and in in a few days they will assign you an Aliyah advisor to help you with your application and answer all your questions. Yes, they give many benefits when you make Aliyah. Some include: (1) a free ticket to israel, (2) roughly 800 USD (2,500 shekel) per month for the first 6 months you live in israel, (3) if you are younger than 30 years old, they will pay for you to do a masters degree here (but in general, college and master’s programs are much cheaper here anyways), (4) free healthcare for a year (and if you have a job after that year, healthcare is automatically built in to the tax withholdings in your pay, as is pension and other benefits), (5) small subsidy on rent for a few months after you’ve lived here for a certain period (but this isn’t going to cover your full rent, it’s fairly small). There’s also other benefits. Check out Nefesh B’Nefesh website for more details.

      It doesn't happen often. In 23 years I experience that in 2006. We run to shelters ( same like in here with tornados every year)

      Agree with SunnySide Up! I grew up in NYC in the inner city where you heard gun shots in the street and there was lots of crime. Israel doesn’t have things like that. It has random terror attacks but they are so much more rare than the crime incidents in America and the defense system in Israel is also designed to neutralize those attacks swiftly. People are also generally better trained on gun safety and proper defense here and they screen people more before they can have a gun. I feel much safer living in Israel
