  • Glaucoma, commonly referred to as "Kala Motia" in some regions, is typically associated with older age. However, it can indeed occur in young individuals, although less frequently. Known as juvenile or congenital glaucoma, this condition manifests in infants, children, or young adults due to abnormalities in the eye's drainage system. Symptoms may include excessive tearing, light sensitivity, and cloudy corneas. If left untreated, it can lead to vision loss or blindness. Early detection is crucial for managing glaucoma effectively, regardless of age. Regular eye examinations, particularly for individuals with a family history of glaucoma or other risk factors, are essential. Dr. Umesh Bareja recommends seeking prompt medical attention if any symptoms or concerns arise, as timely intervention can help preserve vision and prevent complications associated with glaucoma.
