    I am studying to become a Marine Biologist, and I exclusively study Cnidarians (primarily Corals and Anemones). Thank you so much for creating this magnificent and breathtaking masterpiece! You have created one of the most outstanding and informational channels on this whole platform. There’s almost nowhere you could see this amount of biodiversity in one video about Cnidarians ANYWHERE on the internet. Good job and please continue doing what you do! Human beings need to learn and appreciate these little known organisms as much as we possibly can, they are one of (if not the most) important phylums in the whole entire Ocean. And have been for over 500 million years.

      That’s so lovely of you, thank you for watching and taking the time to leave such a motivating comment. I begin my own Marine Bio studies this September and can’t wait to start, how are your studies going? Cnidarians are some of the most biologically bewildering organisms on Earth, it must feel like you’re studying alien life half the time considering how their anatomies, behaviours and physiologies are unlike those of any other organisms!

      This is extremely random but I’ve always really wanted to become a marine biologist when I’m older, were there any classes or things you learned In high school that were helpful with your studies?

    • @yanni-barimwald834
      @yanni-barimwald834 2 роки тому +30

      @@poopfart3904 Since nobody replied to you yet… yes. In general knowledge in chemistry and biology is always helpful for your start studying biology or marine biology later. Also enjoying traveling and to get to know new places and cultures is an advantage. However you dont need to have the best grades in high school to become a marine biologist. Its more about passion and about spending a lot of time becoming an expert in one specific topic and to collect the scientific data. In my opinion the best possible start in high school would be a gap year in another country and solid interest in natural sciences

It's important for sure and I want to get a job in conservation, but its important to learn and not have it be depressing.

    So a correction, it's not an immunity the clownfish has. It actually builds up an amount of the toxins and such the anemones emit, into the natural slime coat that all fish have, and the anemone no longer recognizes it as a fish and things it's just part of itself. They can't just go around to any old anemone

    Just got to watch this.. But man your content is so amazing, I can tell the channel's gonna blow up!
    Cnidarians are bloody fascinating.. And bloody difficult to track their evolution, because of all the cnidarians that exist, _only_ corrals fossilise easily and are rather common in the geological record. Everything else is all soft, so their fossils are really rare - so it's really tricky to figure out how cnidarians came to be, and how they became so diverse!
    Thanks so much for this great vid, the part about the Portuguese Man o' War was especially wonderful :D

    • @NaturalWorldFacts
      @NaturalWorldFacts  3 роки тому +2

      Thank you so much Christian!!! I was hoping you’d comment with some fascinating facts about the cnidarian fossil record, and indeed you have. I was very curious about what we know of their evolutionary history, and it makes sense to hear that we can uncover very little about it - are there any fossilised medusae at all? Do they leave imprints in the way skin or feathers has been known to? Or are they altogether absent from the fossil record? If so, are they able to answer any questions about their evolutionary history from looking at DNA?

    • @NaturalWorldFacts
      @NaturalWorldFacts  3 роки тому +2

      Hi Christian, I saw a comment notification from you but I think UA-cam thought it’s spam as it’s disappeared. If you tried to send links, this can sometimes happen, but a clever way to bypass it is to type the comment without links, post it, then go back click edit and add them in. I’m so sorry if this means you lost all that you’d typed - I’d love to see it. Bloody UA-cam and its poorly designed over-automated algorithms!

    • @NaturalWorldFacts
      @NaturalWorldFacts  3 роки тому +2

      It happened again!! You’re even on my Channel’s ‘always approve’ list so this shouldn’t be happening! I’m so sorry this keeps happening

    • @christianv-h3278
      @christianv-h3278 3 роки тому +1

      @@NaturalWorldFacts No idea why it keeps happening! Didn't even notice that my comments were getting deleted. Seems like UA-cam's been acting up quite a bit... For some reason the bypass you suggested doesn't work, but I'll keep trying to get the links. If worst comes to the worst I'll just tell you what to write in the google searchbar to get the papers! :)
      Well anyway, what I was saying is that yeah, anemones and jellyfish are very rare in the fossil record. Mostly because they're basically watery blobs, which makes it very difficult to fossilise! But it does happen that soft cnidaria can get preserved, in really exceptional circumstances.
      And you're absolutely right, DNA and other molecular techniques are often used to piece together the evolutionary history of these fascinating creatures.

    • @NaturalWorldFacts
      @NaturalWorldFacts  3 роки тому +2

      Ah that’s a shame, sorry about that. UA-cam is too automated these days, but I’m glad I got to read your response! It’s such a fascinating thought to ponder on the evolutionary history of a creature so elusive in the fossil record. I’d be very interested to hear more about the circumstances where soft bodied cnidaria do fossilise! What are the conditions and processes that allow such a rare event to occur?
