THANKS FOR WATCHING!
"You can pay a doctor or you can pay yourself"- Danny
I've been assembling Vego beds for my daughter. My grandchildren, ages 7, 9,and 11 years old have been helping me. My 7 year old granddaughter is my best helper. She loves using the wrench to tighten the nuts.. They all love pulling the plastic off the metal pieces. I start pulling the plastic and they finish it. We assembled large sections in the shade on the porch, carried them to the area where we want the beds and finished the assembly there. Some things that I did to make assembly go smoother: 1. sort the nuts and bolts into separate containers (with lids) 2. place the 6 bolts and nuts in a container for each section as you go along (when you're working with kids) .3. don't tighten the nuts tight before you install the braces 4. put a big tarp or drop cloth down first, esp. when assembling the bed on the grass 5. tighten all the bolts and nuts at the end 6. read and re-read the directions
I put mine in the middle of the living room floor and put them together.. it’s already 104 degrees here in TEXAS.. The older I get the worse the heat seems to be on me
I can tell Danny is in a great mood! He’s so happy here…I love it ❤ It’s good to feel good.
This is your best video yet. I wish I could give it a super thumbs up.
Please show when you plant your fall crops, I'm in north Fl. I bought a greenhouse and the vego beds, this will be my 1st yr of planting in there and I will need as much help as possible 🤞
I always hit the like thumbs up before I start watching , because I LOVE your content Every time !!! GOD BLESS !!!
Your high tunnel is looking so nice with all the stuff growing in it. I seriously laughed out loud at the chickens fightin for the worm.
Danny, It's been my experience with Banana Plants, that they produce a sword plant right next to the mother plant, when they are getting ready to produce bananas on the Mother plant the following year! The sword plant will stay short until the Mother plant produces a long flower and starts making Banana's, once that mother plant ripens it's banana's and you cut the Banana Stalk off, the Mother Plant will actually die back and then the Other sword plant will take it's place and start growing taller! You can do what you want by removing those smaller sword plants, but realize that the mother plant will put all of it's energy in creating another replacement sword plant and not put it's energy to making Banana's for that year or the next year! If you leave them, and start feeding compost to the pot there in the mother plant will then start producing it's long Banana flower! Banana plants are nutrient and water hogs, if they don't get fed constantly, even though the mother plant might produce the flower stem, if it is not kept nutritionally happy, the flowers that open up pedal by pedal will start dropping the immature baby bananas that are underneath it's pedals! I hope this helps you, I had to learn hard lessons about this, to be successful in growing bananas! I grow mine in the ground now with a compost pile dug in the ground 3ft. away from the main stalk and root system, when that compost hole gets filled up after a month or 2 of me composting and watering in it, I then dig another compost hole 2 ft. down on the other side of it's bed right next to it! I found that the 2 compost holes will feed the plant without any amendments for a Year, That clock starts ticking a year after finishing the fill on the second compost pile! I document it, what that date is, so the next year I know around that time that I need to start the process all over again! Make sure the bed stays well mulched to hold the water in, otherwise you will need to water it almost everyday! I check on the bed now to see if it needs watered about once a week, because the bed seems to be holding it's moisture with the dug in compost piles, wood mulch and it's own dead stalks and leaves, I only need to water it once a week, unless I get some good rain! In fact, when the mother plant dies back and collapses, I chop it up and add it as mulch to it's bed to feed the other Banana plants! P.S. I noticed that by putting Old milk, yogurt, sour cream, etc. and watering that into the compost piles, really seems to help the plant bloom and helps the plant to keep maturing the bananas! If you are going to keep them in the pots, you can give them the milk products, by mixing the milk, yogurt, sour cream in the watering can at a 10 parts water to 1 part milk product solution and watering the base of the plant, and feed the plant a gallon of composted compost once a month!
Most of us look for yall as soon as we open you tube
Y’all living my dream. How wonderful it is. Many blessings. Thank you for teaching your wealth of knowledge. Praying for guidance and direction for a homestead.
It sounds to me like you have plans for more than one high tunnel. 👍😁
I just suggested that danny and wanda move the DS tunnels to PG
@@judygoodson5855 I think they’re planning to leave those two at DSH. They’re infrastructure, and I suspect that D&W are planning for bigger high tunnels at PG.
You got it down pat, Mr. Danny. Looks like feeling better. Prayers always. GOD BLESS Y'ALL!!. High tunnels are AWESOME.
I grew some sweet banana peppers this year and they did fantastic. my only problem I didn’t know what to do with them so I pickled them. What do you do with your banana peppers? I raised chickens also and I’ve been waiting for my Marans to start laying. There is nothing more exciting than getting your first eggs from new chickens.
I stuff them with cheddar cheese and cream cheese mixture and freeze for future use
❤❤❤I love the mineral tubs! I bought 7 from the feed store for $3.00 each after I saw your video with you planting beans in them. I made a friend that I'm in a garden swap with who is a cattle rancher! She gave me 30 of them! & said I can come back for more this fall. What a blessing!!!
It reminds me of one of those standing clothes closest for real ya'll. Congratulations on all the improvements ya'll are achieving at our ages. You don't even comprehend the inspiration that ya'll truly are! Love you both. Thank you for including us as more like family from my heart to ya'll.🥰🙏❤
Good morning, what a wonderful review. I can see how pleased you are with the Vego products. Thank you to you both for sharing. 🌱
So happy for you all. Danny's excitement for the vegobed coverings is a joy to see. Blessings to you both.
Such a joy to see you both happy happy happy🙏💞🇨🇦
Look at that!! Wowza!! That is stunning. High tunnel. Praise the living God!!! Danny and Wanda. Picture perfect high tunnel, Wow!!!
I always give a thumbs up! So enjoy your journey on this property. I love your joy and excitement and you build things, do your gardening, Love your cows and babies. It’s so beautiful and peaceful. Thank you for all that you do and teaching us new ways to grow our food. ❤❤
IMO, PG reminds me of a duck on a pond: calm and peaceful on the surface and paddling madly beneath.
That's ingenious, what an awesome addition to your high tunnel
Those beds and covers are so amazing. ❤
with the cover systems, they should make the trellises go on the inside of the raised bed and the cover systems on the outside in my opinion
We have several Vego beds and purchased our first cover. It's definitely worth the money. The quality of the fabric is excellent.
Good morning Danny and Wanda
I have one of those covers for my vego bed . I covered my blueberry bushes that are planted in that Vego bed after the flowers were pollinated. Wow!!! What a nicely made cover ! It worked like a charm! I highly recommend it!
I grow bananas too. My suggestion for you is to get another high tunnel for your tropical and subtropical plants. One that you can keep warmer than your regular high tunnel. That is why your pineapple and moringa have done well. I would put the banana in with the the pineapple. In the winter I wrap the trunk of all of my banana plants with a sheet or a flannel backed table cloth. Never use plastic. I do this because the trunk of a banana is filled with water. Bananas are heavy feeders. They need more water and compost than other plants to get actual fruit. Also bananas are actually an herb. Lol I know, not a normal herb plant. But yes, they are herbs. I'm in North Florida and I could never get fruit from my bananas until I used these methods. Also once a banana plant fruits you pull that stalk and the banana pups that come up after that stalk is pulled will fruit the next year. Have fun.
Any other tips? I have Cavadish and when I separated the pups all of them died even the mother plant. No clue what I did wrong.
@pamelafailen189 when you seperate pups make sure you get some of the main root with every pup. And remember they are heavy feeders. I actually plant banana circles. In the middle of it I throw lots of fruit and vegetables scrapes. Because I don't generate enough scraps anymore to make my own compost. And they need lots of water. Remember, it Raines in the tropics a lot.
You should be an ambassador for Vego beds. As I was watching you assemble them I was reminded so much of my Daddy. He passed 25 years ago but your hands remind me of his working so methodically to get everything just right. The pride you take in your beds is evident.
Good morning
Thank you for showing the mechanics of the Vego beds!❤
You all get me so excited about gardening thank you for this video
Thanks for the tour. My wife and I are trying to down size. We've been looking at property that has part of the infrastructure done. I am 70 years old, and I have to be busy after retiring from the DOD in 2019.
I'm SO jealous! But, in a good way! If anyone deserves this, you guys do. You two are the hardest working older couple on youtube as far as I'm concerned. This high tunnel and those raised beds with all the stuff that goes with them is like fairyland for the gardener. I can't afford all that and that's okay. But, wow! It's going to be so beautiful. They picked the right folks to promote there products for sure!! It's beautiful!! Drooling over here. LOL
Thanks for sharing all the details. The VEGO products do seem to be well thought out and great quality. The zippers are a wonderful asset too. Maybe one day they’ll have a 50% off sale !!! 😊
I started my tiny channel with only thing in my mind was just to tell people how you can just keep living after losing home and everything and my son and grandson all in a fire and pet. And I've learned so much from just a few videos I've watched of yalls in last 2 days...I'm excited to put to practice some of yalls instructions on how to grow stuff...thank you so much.
Oh my goodness!!! I’m excited too. This is my goal. I am going to get one of the beds and get it all set up irrigation and everything. It may take me till next year to get it and pay for it but that’s my new goal.
I see Mr. Danny is getting out his "Tinker Toys" again . Those Vego products are amazing. Your high tunnel is also amazing . Peppers & Malibar spinach forever! I never thought about the Malibar as a wrap. I like the idea. The banana trees are just gorgeous. Your hard work is paying off, Big Time!
We grew up in south texas and my dad wrapped his banana plants in news paper and taped it un til spring
Mr. Danny , you are such a great instructor. You make it seem simple.😅 I love the Vego raised garden beds! Now I have to have that cover system too…Tfs❤
Thank you Danny and Wanda for showing the hight tunnel. Y’all need one more hight tunnel lol. Love to hear y’all laughing.
Okay y'all your high tunnel is starting to look like everybody's favorite greenhouse . You know the ones you keep secret from everyone else so they can have the best looking plants
Mr Danny y'all really got it going on in your awesome green house. God bless and Much love 💖 I love my green house 💞
If I understand the banana trees right they only produce one bunch of bananas and that is it.
Bananas produce one cluster of fruit per stalk, which then dies, but the root sends up at least one stalk per year (more space and older plants) and one cluster is more than enough to feed Danny and Wanda until the next harvest.
That's correct.
Your Vego beds and covers are amazing!! You give such explicit instructions that are easy to follow!! I am saving for the beds & now the covers as well as a high tunnel!! Vego bed company needs to come to you & Wanda and make their video instructions from a real setting with you giving the instructions!!!
I would not even thought about buying them without watching you & Wanda’s videos.
God bless you both!!😊
This is just gonna be a wonderful thing for you both to add to growing your crops so glad you’re blessed with getting these. thanks for sharing Danny and Wanda. God bless you both.
Those are very cool but very expensive for me.I always hit the like button and watch until the end then add a consent because I enjoy your vidios and want to always be able to see them in my feed! Thank you!
You can tell you really like the Vego beds and accessories, you haven’t quit smiling this whole video. A smile can tell a lot. I’m saving up to buy my first Vego, I have 2 from another company and not impressed with them. Thank you for showing us your journey with the beds. Mat God continue to bless you and Wanda.
Love your videos. Each video contains a lot of valuable information, not only for our generation, but also for the up-and-coming ones that follow. Those who can't afford the Vega beds and already have raised beds can adapt what you showed to their beds.
What a fantastic company with awesome products! God richly bless y'all! Xo
Looking in your high tunnel must be like looking into the garden of Eden.
I am so glad you are enjoying your new garden beds and tools. I started in buckets and built a cage takes up most of my back yard. So yeah it was a little pricy. But I can't begin to tell you how much I love my space. Just put in some more metal raised beds. I am watching all you do to see what I can do. Like what you said about the grapes, I want some but don't want to feed the squirrels. Right now I can keep deer, squirrels etc out. Looking to refine the process. My thoughts exactly you can pay yourself and feel better or pay a doc and never get well
Those Vego covers are sweet.
We had 7 pineapples this year. Soooo good!!! Making pineapple scrap vinegar with some, and would like to try the juice like y'all make. Thank you for sharing! Awesome high tunnel! God Bless and continued prayers.
I’m loving all the trellises! The high tunnel looks absolutely beautiful
You guys should look into growing short-cycle banana varieties. Most bananas take 18 mos or so to flower & fruit. If the leaves and stalk freeze back ,the time starts over. Varieties like Patupi, Veinte Cohol, Senorita,Kluia Khai etc flower & fruit much quicker. Plus the hands mature & ripen quicker too. Much more successful for places that freeze and do well in greenhouses etc.
Looking good!!
Wished we could afford those beds. Have to make wooden ones from old wood we have out here
I am in northeast Florida and never have any trouble with worms in my fall cabbage and mustard.
Your greenhouse with the Vego beds looks amazing!
Vego's are a pretty amazing concept! Can't wait to see your beds full!
I love those covers. Can't wait to get my first section of sweet potatoes out this week & get my four new Vego beds up. 🥰
If I wasn’t already convinced to buy the Vego beds for my next garden these covers would definitely convince me. I have actually built a 4x6 cover for my old wood beds that allows me to put a couple chickens in my garden at the end of the season for bug control. Maybe you can add a chicken to your new Vego cover? 😂 Great work Danny. Everything looks fantastic.
That cover looks great. Thank you for sharing this with us.
Save the money up let's get it to see what's going on 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Planning on getting some new raised beds for the upcoming fall season 😊
I am so sorry to be late. It's time to get out of the heat and watch Deep South Homestead. Thanks for sharing 🙏 😎 🏝 🏖
Good morning Mr. Danny and Ms. Wanda. Amazing all of the options that they have for their beds. The cover seems like it would be nice to keep the insects off at night. Wonder how they are to stay open during the day for pollinators to get in their and do their work. Thank you for sharing and have a blessed day.
Looks great! Thanks for showing this being assembled. I think even i can do it now. 😊
I bought a bunch of raised beds this past winter and set up a large area of my in ground garden with them and have absolutely loved them, I agree with Danny, I never imagined how much food you can grow in less space. I didn’t get Vego brand beds but they are the same type. Next year I’ll add a bunch more.
Good eye Wanda. You saw the critter.
Awesome video! I love the way you have the high tunnel set up & the Vego beds are amazing. We hope to eventually be able to do something similar. Thanks for bringing us along & giving us encouragement!
Wow, just wow! I love your high tunnel! ❤
Hi, I just happened upon your channel. I just bought a Vego raised bed and after watching you install the cover I'm thinking I need one too! Looking forward to more of your videos 😀
You can make TAMALES 😍! with banana leaves😊
Only a man would say I’m so interested in learning how this goes! 🤣🤣. I looked in that box and almost fainted…I’ll need a man to hel0 me 🤣🤣
Come on now y'all hit that like button over 5,000 views and only 1,000 likes are you kidding me this is gold guys
Thanks
I need some of these beds for my yard. ❤
Y'all just make me smile! God bless Danny and Miss Wanda! ♥️🙏🏻🇺🇲
Everything looks fabulous
You two have tought me so much ..thank you so much ❤
Beautiful high tunnel
Such wonderful plans for your garden!
I grew some sweet banana peppers this year and they did fantastic. my only problem I didn’t know what to do with them so I pickled them. What do you do with your banana peppers?
I just love the white grapes and I want to do it 😮
Those are really nice to know about! Thank you for sharing this.
OMG! Banana tree! I was thinking about pairing with pineapple, too! Great minds think alike!
Thank you for the tour. I bought 2 6in1 vego beds the other day when they were on sale.
That is awesome!
Hey Danny you just need one more greenhouse with nothing in it but pots of pineapples and bananas
Wow that's awesome bed love it
very nice
Good morning! 👍🏼♥️
Thank you for sharing this!
Now we all knew Danny couldn’t just put one together lol
The hi tunnel is great, but my wife would love to see an update on your pineapples. She is extremely interested in possibly growing some.
It's coming
Love❤❤you're overall outfit...
This is so cool! Thanks for sharing!
Good morning. Great review.
Nice set up 💝👍💝
I finally saved enough money to get 4 of the 6 in one beds and 2 of the kids beds and I bought one of the trellis’ that goes from one vego bed to another one… i haven’t gotten all of them put together yet or filled with dirt , but I’m working on it
I’m not putting my Malabar spinach in my high tunnel… it goes crazy
It’s by the chicken pen , up under a big oak tree … I feed a lot of it to the chickens , they love it
Nice its fitted.
❤❤❤Fresh eggs!!!
