There were a lot of smaller less popular MMORPGs which had success but were mostly childish looking and didnt last for that long nor were that famous. Then peak years for so many new Wow type mmorpg released 2008 (with Aion) - 2013 passed and community got split up and oversaturated based upon how many of these games were released. In 5 last years we barely had any good MMORPGs released, instead we only had few rereleases. The golden age of MMORPGs is gone for now, but someday they might come around again. There are still games that you can play, in fact a lot of them, but biggest problem about MMORPGs is how they are so time consuming, so playing one basically means missing out on another, and community keeps moving on from one to other game, so without a huge game recognized and played by everyone, its basically a waste of time trying to invest time into a single game, something which i really havent been able to do so for a very long time. If you are a person that can dedicate itself for the pure love, unrequited love for the game, no matter how many players there are, you should always be able to find a private server to play on (although i cant see myself ever playing seriously on private server unless its the only option). There are nice communities on some, but they might not necessarily offer the true MMORPG experience with professional administration and balancing. Newer generations didnt grow up on MMORPGs, they choose something that is more simple to play, easy to learn and extremely approachable, especially with all things that have crossplay now... this huge battle royale craze is the current trend and people will waste resources to make their game battle royale specific... Most of people who play games on mobile mostly werent the PC / Console players to begin with, it is simple expansion of market. And im kind of happy in a way that those MMORPGs arent on PC, some of them can maybe even be fun on mobile, i wouldnt know, but considering that PCs are expensive and that developers would have to keep up with newest graphics in order to push out the game, making an simpler MMORPG for mobile which can be run by most of machines and installed with a simple press of one button is surely way more attractive to poorer, and a bit lazier audience. Also if you havent, give Warframe a try, its a weird, and different experience, but if you are a completionist it can be very, very fun. Path of Exile is there as well. Like i said there are many MMORPGs around, but with small playerbase, going in wrong direction and it can be hard to get attached to them. Otherwise last bit of hope is Lost Ark, which will probably turn out like MU Legend
ffxiv is my home mmo and is doing well. I've stopped looking for that "new big mmo" a while ago. And rather focus on the mmo's that are doing well currently.

What I just realized when watching this video: a hood on MMORPG are so BADASS, and its weird how rare they are on most MMORPG to 2018 And no, I'm not talking about hood headgear specifically, I'm talking about hood cape and hood that actually goes over your headgear.
Oh vindictus is still alive. So hyped for it to release in EU. Had a lot of fun with it. It was ahead of its time with its mechanics. But it got destroyed. Loved the armor sets and weapons. But were so much rng for the must simple things. Like changing colours on your gear. But I loved the gameplay and story.
No, tera has the problem that the females of every other race look exactly the same. And not everyone wants to play a character who has the proportions of a porn star
Highly doubt Tera will be around much longer (in the west at least). They already fused down to 2(?) servers, release only more classes for female (+everything for elin) and their endgame progressing is still garbage. Kinda expect them to soom ramp up the pay to win to the max in a attempt to milk some more money before shutting down.
@@MMOByte the problem lies within devs who made a race with the smallest hitbox that has largest skill reach, how the hell?!?!?! Thus making elin the common choice for minmaxers who don't care about race, but at the same time increasing elin population.
You are wrong about "IP Ban's" in Lost Ark. It was a re-verification process so as long as you had the phone number that you registered the account with, you keep the account. Sorry for my english ^^
I'm the only one who didn't think bns was a complete p2w mess x_x but my standards are pretty low as long as they can't buy things normals players can get i'm fine, and since the arena equalised gear people who did spend money just made dungeons easier for me and that was about it xD excited to play it with better graphics and more content~
A superior version of Blade and Soul being developed does mean playing the old version, to be made obsolete, was a complete waste of time in retrospect though.
@@MMOByte I did pvp in the arena and reached platinum on a few characters since gear doesn't matter But open world pvp is p2w :/ but even then it was more just outnumbering the enemy I managed to reach the endgame but the grind was ridiculous without paying x,D luckily my endgame is making money, buying costumes and then starting a new character >< but i still got to enjoy/suffer every dungeon
Hey fellow Daria fan, BnS has its beautiful aspects and it was something very interesting at the start, during the first month especially when no one had anything and everyone was on fair start line on chasing the gear. The maximum level was reachable, and top gear was earned by few hours of farming, only items you could buy were costumes. Those beautiful days of hunting Blackwyrm with clan trying to get its famous ring to drop. That was the moment when game was fair and interesting to play. From that moment on, the grind kept increasing exponentially. To cut to the chase, nowadays, you'd have to have a friend who'd get you into a good party, or you'd have to be extremely good and give it your maximum in every dungeon to put out a little extra bit of damage and performance to compensate for you poor gear. Which is extremely tiring in game that has combat like BnS. It is fun for first few runs, but tiring after 10 minutes of constant fighting with bad gear. You dont have any chances to get lucky, expensive drops that are tradeable with other players or that you can use for profit. Best things that can drop are outfits and to earn anything from them, people have to bid on it so you get the cut. I tried to play the game despite its flaws on few different occasions (i spent quite a lot of time on it actually, probably most i've spent on mmorpg), and same thing would keep happening. I'd either try to farm very hard, every day completing multiple dungeons and barely finding parties which wouldnt kick me for my bad gear, and when i manage to find something one out of following three things would happen: 1. I'd actually get somewhat mid worth gear that could get me into most dungeons and keep it 2. I'd see very nice outfits on store and i couldnt resist but sell my earned items to get it 3. I'd gamble everything on seasonal event with hopes of profit or a costume i like from the seasonal box I tried it out on multiple occasions, and that is what keeps happening as a free to play player. In the 1. case, if i got the gear, it would literally become FREE a week up to a month later so basically everything i did and spent money and time on now cost considerably less to upgrade or is free and makes all the time i spent countlessly grinding everyday worthless. Arena PvP is considerably p2w, since skills in your skillset are locked unless you read special books which you can either get by paying with real cash, or sinking in a lot of gold/grinding a lot in PvP and dungeons for them. Most of these skills are direct upgrades with no downsides. Not to even mention how unbalanced and class based it is, certain classes simply counter each other, unless you are extremely, and i really mean extremely good you will have no chances against certain classes like blade dancer which simply tap one key and resist everything. Other battlegrounds type PvP is ridiculously p2w since it counts in your gear. Sadly game even forces you to play those for your weekly challenge, and people on your level can be extremely overpowered with better gear to the point where they will overheal so you wont be able to deal any damage on them. The difference between free and paying player is abysmal, and there IS NOT a way to reach whales without extreme amount of luck and literal 24/7 grind, considering you only spend on gear and no cosmetics. I've never seen such a waste of time and unrewarding game, truly a sad concept, but it works well for some people, i guess. I mainly loved its costumes and i really liked my character, which kept me playing. Otherwise i hardly would, even if someone paid me.
@@daaryn Basically all you said was your own fault though. You get kicked because your gear is too bad for F8 groups, get a guild. Expensive drops and not getting them so you can sell them? You do realise people already bid high on them and you get your share of gold. "I'd see very nice outfits on store and i couldnt resist but sell my earned items to get it " That is entirely your fault, valuing looks over gear. "I'd gamble everything on seasonal event with hopes of profit or a costume i like from the seasonal box" That is your fault for gambling. "In the 1. case, if i got the gear, it would literally become FREE a week up to a month later" The only thing that basically became 'free' is the first legendary weapon to raven and an alternative, cheap path to aransu which, however costs you dps until you get to Aransu. "Arena PvP is considerably p2w, since skills in your skillset are locked unless you read special books" Those essential skills you actually need in arena are dirt cheap (most likely Vol.4 tome which costs 10 bravery coins) "Not to even mention how unbalanced and class based it is, certain classes simply counter each other, unless you are extremely, and i really mean extremely good you will have no chances against certain classes like blade dancer which simply tap one key and resist everything." Many classes have a resist skill, classes have some matchups that its harder against than others. However it is always possible to win against those as well. BD is a non-issue if you know how to deal with one (as with all other classes). Sounds like you just were not good enough to deal with your opponents (which everyone is at the start since arena is either pvp mains or their twinks in 97% of cases) 6v6 is pw2, that is true. However that the games forces you into there for your weeklies is a lie. You get your 3-weekly reward by doing 3 of the 5 pve weekly dungeons There are problems with BnS, like the pvp is only pros and their twinks, the pay for convenience concept, upgrade grind of every piece of gear needing the same stuff (accessories needing 200+ Legendary gems from stage 7 to 10, have fun grinding the money and soulstones for them), pay for convenience (let's just stuff in in here twice) and the community (NA & EU) which is too lazy for any mechanics and want 1.1k+ AP for dungeons you could do with 900 back in the days (and even got nerfed). There are problems with BnS, quite a few at that. But almost all of your issues do not exist.
I'm pretty stoked for B&S 2. I think B&S had amazing combat. Everyone had to carry their weight instead of Tanks and healers doing all the work while DPS just no brain attacks.. B&S combat also made it so i could outdamage higher gear players and survive longer simply by being BETTER. Most mmo's have no real skill gap and it's all about gear. But not B&S it's about SKILL. Really hope B&S2 kees this! Also bring Vindictus 2 already!!!!!!
if Blade and Soul 2 is a PC MMO and an updated B&S, here's hoping it doesn't have the same western delay like the original. I hope it's as good as the first without the pay 2 win feel.
I'm sorry, I had to pause the video to comment on how those horses have to be so stalwart to be able to carry both their rider's wight, as well as the gear! Not only that, but to be able to run a their speed they do with all that extra weight! By the dragon's beard that's insane, they should make them look like the Darksider mounts in terms of girth and muscle density.
I’m sad FFXIV housing is so expensive and we can’t just select the home we want. I’ll stick with BDO. Easy housing, spectacular house decor items, and equally outstanding character creation. It’s *the* game for RP and crafting.
Honestly, if it wasn't for the fact the mobile games are always littered with microtransactions that give them a bad reputation as P2W, people might actually get excited for some of these mobile MMO releases. These developers have got guts doing something that might destroy their player base. That being said, if they handle it well enough they just might change the perception of mobile MMOs. Personally, I look forward to trying BnS2 in the future. Good day!
I feel like customization might be in trouble, like they're trying to make balancing teams have more vacation days. I tried playing WoW again in Legion but ugh, in PvP all your stats were decided for you and the talent trees were completely gutted. SWTOR copied them and dumbed down their customization as well. Both games I saw the community proclaiming the old highly customizable talent trees were just "illusions of choice", saying that only one build really worked. I knew I hated the term meta but it truly is a disease. Also I know Overwatch isn't an MMO but seeing that many people love an ability based game with zero customization has started troubling me after looking at what's happening to other games.
They are not exactly MMOs, but could you perhaps make some videos about some ARPGs such as Path of Exile, Grim Dawn, Titan Quest, Torchlight, Wolcen or the upcoming Last Epoch, so that former Diablo players and fans could be made aware of them. Many of them became disillusioned after the Diablo: Immortal debacle (aka the "Don't you guys have phones?"-event).
Im from Dauntless and Dragon Hound is almost nothing like it (from what i can see), only thing these two games have in common are instanced hunts sooo this one won't feel "right at home" ^^
Dragon hound looks good, but if the main selling point is just ranged combat in mounts then it looks no different then any other shooter games out there...like Anthem or Destiny mixed with monster hunter but with horses... So I guess MHW and Dauntless are better in the sense that they have more weapon options from Melee to Ranged making each and every class or weapon feel unique than just shooting things...hope for more gameplay footage of this game hopefully showing off other game mechanics and not just the shooting on horseback aspect...
I wouldnt count out dc universe online yet since they have been adding quite a few changes to the game this year wich is A LOT MORE than 2017 where no changes only new dlcs soooo yeah i like to see where this is going
You said Lineage was originally mobile game but it was originally started as PC game and mobile one was recently out (idk if I can call that recent but mobile was about 4 yrs ago.) Very first one of Lineage was like pixel, and was developed in 1900s. It is very old game that became better and better (fyi, you can change the game money you gathered from game into actual currency in real world.. so there were some people who were earning money from it.. and they were just some gamers like us.. Well, at least in Korea it was like that... It is originally developed in Korea anyways)
MMO genre died the moment BDO went down the p2w line(which some say it s been since the VP, others say its been recent, doesnt really matter when), the fact that the best MMORPG out there(at least excluding the shooter mmorpg sub-genre) is a HEAVY p2w game(bdo) its a sign that we the mmo lovers need to take a break from them until something good comes out
@@leonarraharja3495 my problem with poe and why its not my "main game" is that it has no pvp and guild content(the most social interaction i had was trading and running 2-3 maps with a friend)
@@alexandrunicolae1054 poe already my main game i dont like pvp and guild content hahhah so poe kinda suit for me :P like that trade system on poe trade or etc(even many afk sellers rip lul) item craft like no other games, give me thrill chill fun at the same time XD
Just leaving this here: You have to be VERY careful when you say Blade and Soul 2 will be the graphically most beautiful MMO on the market. When they announced B&S 1 it left me speechless on how good the graphics were - but that was all the back when MMOs like Perfect World were the standart Korean graphics. And then it took sooooooo long for B&S to make it to the west that it was hopelessly outdated and ugly at launch.
Few options: - Secret World Legends - Fallen Earth - Otherland - Star Trek Online There are more of them but these are first that come to my mind, and they are pretty bad, especially Otherland, but if you really wanted to play something a bit different, there you go. Medieval and most of MMORPG's with original WoW type design are designed over in Asia, and a lot of Chinese like their mytological stories and i guess thats where bunch of them are based upon. MMORPGs are huge projects and require loads of money to be developed, and later on especially for things like customer support, servers, balancing, etc. All that on its own is a big burden and really takes good team to make it successful, and if you pick wrong genre without strong financial backing for investors... its pretty much a lost cause. If you go to steam you'll find a lot of these failed projects... Sadly its just about money making nowadays, only hope is kickstarter devs which are again, a gamble and usually arent experienced at all, even though they might have different vision. It would be truly amazing if we could play an open world rpg set in cyberpunk city with great load of immersion but it isnt gonna happen any time soon. As long as people are satisfied with games that are centered around a single game mode completely (which is a sad waste of resources), investors will keep investing in them (referring to battle royale games), and keep trying to catch the fast and easy cash.
@@daaryn I've tried all of them except Otherland. They ruined secret world with the Legends update so I don't enjoy it anymore. Star trek online feels like a singleplayer experience rather than an mmo, and fallen Earth is just a bit too dead for me to enjoy. :( I've been hoping for a new non medieval mmo for years
I love how people seem to think AAA games take a year or two to make. 6-10 is a normal range. CIG is making TWO AAA games at the same time, Squadron 42 and Star Citizen, plus building a company.
when i've asked the blade and soul reddit, people said that blade & soul 2, m and s, are all mobile games, where did u get the source that one of them or even 2 of them will be pc games? thats the second time i heard you say it.
Moo Moo open world, first person sci-fi sandbox. I highly recommend checking it out. Most of the game packs are expensive, but note that you only need the base starter pack to play, everything else will be available with in game currency once the game is released. So no p2w.
@@ghost13217 Most things you can buy in game right now. With the recent 3.3.0 and soon 3.3.5 ship buying is a thing. While ship weapons, coolers, powerplants, FPS armor and weapons have been in for some time.
@@Starrshade oh nice. If they're pushing for ship buying in the next patch, hopefully that means that they are closing in on finishing the game, because ship pledging has been their main source of income. I can't wait to play it when it launch, the newest update looks phenomenal. It's everything I want Elite Dangerous to be lol
Free to play games were what we thought we wanted 10 years ago. 10 years later, I regret ever supporting the idea. The games being pumped out are some of the most non-fun grindy and immoral cesspits that are only designed to get whales addicted to the game with the freebies they offer, only to rack them with impossible grind.
Star citizen finally has ONE PLANET? isnt it a space game, it will need literally 1000... And if they arent pumping out a planet aday to keep the critics away, i cant see this game ever coming out.
Mounted combat could be interesting if it’s done better then lotro did it, really the only thing that caught my eye. You never really seem to have news on chronicles of Elyria...?

Maple story 2 is suprisingly fun atm and is not p2w...yet

Oh vindictus is still alive. So hyped for it to release in EU. Had a lot of fun with it. It was ahead of its time with its mechanics. But it got destroyed. Loved the armor sets and weapons. But were so much rng for the must simple things. Like changing colours on your gear. But I loved the gameplay and story.

Man, Tera really has a loli problem.
So do most the people that play it.. they're all Elin's!
No, tera has the problem that the females of every other race look exactly the same. And not everyone wants to play a character who has the proportions of a porn star
And not everyone wants to play as a child dressed up as a pornstar. So many costumes for Elins are just creepy

As long as you don't do endgame or PvP then it's a great game!
A superior version of Blade and Soul being developed does mean playing the old version, to be made obsolete, was a complete waste of time in retrospect though.
@@MMOByte I did pvp in the arena and reached platinum on a few characters since gear doesn't matter
But open world pvp is p2w :/ but even then it was more just outnumbering the enemy
I managed to reach the endgame but the grind was ridiculous without paying x,D luckily my endgame is making money, buying costumes and then starting a new character >< but i still got to enjoy/suffer every dungeon
Hey fellow Daria fan,
BnS has its beautiful aspects and it was something very interesting at the start, during the first month especially when no one had anything and everyone was on fair start line on chasing the gear.
I'd either try to farm very hard, every day completing multiple dungeons and barely finding parties which wouldnt kick me for my bad gear, and when i manage to find something one out of following three things would happen:
1. I'd actually get somewhat mid worth gear that could get me into most dungeons and keep it
2. I'd see very nice outfits on store and i couldnt resist but sell my earned items to get it
3. I'd gamble everything on seasonal event with hopes of profit or a costume i like from the seasonal box
I tried it out on multiple occasions, and that is what keeps happening as a free to play player. In the 1. case, if i got the gear, it would literally become FREE a week up to a month later so basically everything i did and spent money and time on now cost considerably less to upgrade or is free and makes all the time i spent countlessly grinding everyday worthless.
"I'd see very nice outfits on store and i couldnt resist but sell my earned items to get it
"
That is entirely your fault, valuing looks over gear.
"I'd gamble everything on seasonal event with hopes of profit or a costume i like from the seasonal box"
That is your fault for gambling.
"In the 1. case, if i got the gear, it would literally become FREE a week up to a month later"
The only thing that basically became 'free' is the first legendary weapon to raven and an alternative, cheap path to aransu which, however costs you dps until you get to Aransu.
"Arena PvP is considerably p2w, since skills in your skillset are locked unless you read special books"
Those essential skills you actually need in arena are dirt cheap (most likely Vol.4 tome which costs 10 bravery coins)
"Not to even mention how unbalanced and class based it is, certain classes simply counter each other, unless you are extremely, and i really mean extremely good you will have no chances against certain classes like blade dancer which simply tap one key and resist everything."
Many classes have a resist skill, classes have some matchups that its harder against than others. However it is always possible to win against those as well. BD is a non-issue if you know how to deal with one (as with all other classes).
Sounds like you just were not good enough to deal with your opponents (which everyone is at the start since arena is either pvp mains or their twinks in 97% of cases)
6v6 is pw2, that is true. However that the games forces you into there for your weeklies is a lie. You get your 3-weekly reward by doing 3 of the 5 pve weekly dungeons
There are problems with BnS, like the pvp is only pros and their twinks, the pay for convenience concept, upgrade grind of every piece of gear needing the same stuff (accessories needing 200+ Legendary gems from stage 7 to 10, have fun grinding the money and soulstones for them),
pay for convenience (let's just stuff in in here twice) and the community (NA & EU) which is too lazy for any mechanics and want 1.1k+ AP for dungeons you could do with 900 back in the days (and even got nerfed).

Raiderz was exceptional...

Good day!

Shhh. Shhhhh. We don't talk about that here.
i see what you did there :)
The hidden fact about Bless Onlines is that EA is the REAL developer!!
Honestly at this point people should stop supporting Star Citizen until they get a solid release.
Good video o/ (Also you forgot Aion 2)
I did Aion 2 last week!
Im from Dauntless and Dragon Hound is almost nothing like it (from what i can see), only thing these two games have in common are instanced hunts sooo this one won't feel "right at home" ^^
I mean "jumping into an instanced area to hunt a giant monster".
the problem of vindictus and EOS is a regional block
MMOs today are like music industry. Filled with RAP music. The 70's and 80's are long gone.
Nitpick, but Stormblood was more than a year ago (June 2017). Not really "fresh off the heels". It's actually been awhile.
Finally giving DRK some love.

Question is: Are they going to be any good?

When they announced B&S 1 it left me speechless on how good the graphics were - but that was all the back when MMOs like Perfect World were the standart Korean graphics. And then it took sooooooo long for B&S to make it to the west that it was hopelessly outdated and ugly at launch.

I've been dying for a new non medieval-fantasy mmorpg. Give me sci fi, cyberpunk, ANYTHING that isn't freakin medieval. So tired of it!
What don't you enjoy about it?
Air ascent infinite realm will be released soon
How about urban fantasy? It takes place in a contemporary or modern setting.
Few options:
- Secret World Legends
- Fallen Earth
- Otherland
- Star Trek Online
There are more of them but these are first that come to my mind, and they are pretty bad, especially Otherland, but if you really wanted to play something a bit different, there you go.
