    How many remember binging watching weekend cartoons back in the 1950's and 60's.
    A Close Call is a 1929 animated short film which is part of the early sound cartoon series entitled Aesop's Sound Fables. It was produced by The Van Beuren Corporation and released by Pathé. The film, like other Aesop Sound Fables at that time, featured Milton and Rita as the main characters.
    This print was restored by master animation historian Steve Stanchfield at ThunderbeanAnimation.com. Check the site out to own the entire collection of cartoons and more on DVD.
    In 1920, the Keith-Albee organization formed Fables Pictures for the production of the Aesop's Film Fables cartoon series with Paul Terry, who himself owned 10 percent of the studio.
    Producer Amedee J. Van Beuren bought out the studio in 1928, retaining Terry and renaming the business after its new owner.
    Van Beuren released Terry's first sound cartoon Dinner Time (1928) (a month before Disney's Steamboat Willie) through Pathé Exchange, which later became part of RKO Pictures.
    Terry ran the animation studio while Van Beuren focused on other parts of the business. In 1929, Terry quit to start his own Terrytoons studio and John Foster took over the animation department.

      Nice to see the for real Mickey and Minnie before Walt came along.
      Who knows, he probably bought the idea from these cartoons.

      @Joel Alvarado (JATVE) F U. Paul Terry was drawing these mice since the First World War. Ten years before Ub Iwerks gave the thief Walt Disney his drawing of Mickey Mouse.

      Van Beuren was sued by his mice Milton Mouse and Rita Mouse, probably appearing for the first time in "The Office Boy" (1930) or other episodes. Milton was identical to Mickey, with gloves, buttons on his pants, shoes, no shirt...

      @@johnbockelie3899 Probably because 1) there's never been any evidence of that, and 2) Mickey Mouse had already appeared well over a year before this cartoon was even copyrighted and was an instant hit, and therefore a big target for copycats.

      @@RedRuv_OFFICIAL200 o konuda halkısın. Ama yine Mickey fare Milton kadar original değil. Şöyle diyim, Birisi 2 tane evli (Milton ve Mary/Rita evlimi bilmiyorum) fare yapınca niye başka biri aynısını yapsınki (Disney). Mickey'in görünüşünde sorun yok ama karakteristik (kişilik) olarak original değil. Ben ve birkaç arkadaş Milton hakkında araştırma yaptık ve farklı ilginç şeyler bulduk. Milton'un yapımcısı (Paul Terry) başka fare karakterlerde yapmış. Arkadaşımdan biri bir kaç aesops film fables senaryoları buldu ve farelerden birisinin ismi "Mickey Mouse".
      (bunu derken disney başka bir karakterin ismini çaldı demiyorum)

    I will summon a host of demons to curse the next liar who claims that Paul Terry was not the originator of these mice. The one who was copying and stealing was WALT DISNEY.

    • @luizfernandocanaloficial9511
      @luizfernandocanaloficial9511 9 місяців тому +3

      Paul Terry actually wasn't the creator of these mice, as he did nothing in this cartoon. He already had his own studio.

    • @luizfernandocanaloficial9511
      @luizfernandocanaloficial9511 9 місяців тому +3

      But, I agree with you. Walt Disney stole the mice and had the nerve to sue the Van Beuren(it's not Terry's studio) studio.

      But perhaps the creators of the mouse couple Milton and Rita Mouse, John Foster and Harry Bailey, were sued because they made the characters identical to Mickey and Minnie after their creations.
