I think that there are little signs, written in lobster language, directing those lobsters that are suffering from barnacle infestation to hop into your traps for some much needed TLC, barnacle removal and a delicious snack. All while becoming internet sensations !

As a commercial diver in British Columbia, I know barnacles. But I've never scraped them off of crustaceans to such a degree. Would a razor knife not be a little more effective at getting under a barnacle and removing it? Just throwing that out there. You're the expert. We see them sometimes on Dungeness and red rock crab but usually only on their carapaces where they don't affect movement. Also, crab that have barnacles are also old enough and big enough to harvest. The youngsters molt so often that barnacles never have a chance to set. Love what you do. 👍
They have rules about harvesting - that one measures over five inches on the back, so it goes back in as a breeder. The more you watch Jacob’s videos the more you learn. Also, the other commenters are right about the razor blades. One small cut and an infection can get in and kill them.
I'm not sure you guys know how to use a razor knife. You're not an axe murderer. You slide it nearly parallel to the surface you're removing the barnacle from - like skinning a fish. Come to think of it, any short blade knife could work and it doesn't need to be particularly sharp. If you know what you're doing you're not going to injure yourself or the crustacean. You would probably remove the barnacle cleaner than crushing it. The knuckles are a different story. I wouldn't recommend it there.
I love these videos! It’s so satisfying to watch you help these lobsters and learn from you, explaining and teaching! I love to eat lobster but haven’t eaten any in a year, we live in GA. But traveled to the northeast for our 30th wedding anniv last year and the fresh lobster was delicious!
Just think about the sheer number of lobsters this single guy has given a lease on life for a while longer just by removing barnacles and always giving them a free feed. Awesome

I'd suggest diagonal cutters as are used in electrical work. Klein Tools is a good brand.
