I was born and raised there in Marion Indiana. Moved to Oklahoma and got stuck here and now I have MS and I can't get back home. This video warmed the soul of this old Hoosier.
Good morning my name is Nicole Denise Jackson I am from the town of Elkhart Indiana born I left when I was little girl and I moved to grand rapids Michigan it's very races up here there a lot of kkk up here to but I still miss Elkhart Indiana I hope to go back there soon I love it
Ok Starting at the time( 1:52 ) on the right there was a walk in move house there. I think that is 5th street..... Next at time ( 2:06 N/E corner) there city hall is was the salvation army church ....Next at time ( 2:47 ) is where skid row was on the left a lot of bars. .... Next at time ( 2:56 ) the old building on the right was a ware house Where the ( gray box ) is next to the RXR tracks was a 10x10 house for the RXR it had a 6 long handles sticking up out of the floor to switch tracks ( there was always a guy in that house.... Next at time ( 3:00 ) the pink building was a cabinet factory. A cross the street on the S/E corner was the first coin operated laundromat was, On the S/W corner the building was still there in 2012 is was a school for mentally unstable children... Next at time ( 3:16 ) The brick building plus the white building was Oldsmobile new car dealership... Next at time ( 3:20 ) as you know the old jail my dad broke out of that back in 1956.... Next at time ( 3:40 there the bench's are was a liquor store ... Next at time ( 3:50 ) the brick building across the river was the armory to the right of it was the old office shot gun building That was turned in to school rooms lol lol I went to school there for first, second and second and third .... Next at time ( 4:07 ) right where the camera is looking that was the only police station Marion had..... Next at time (4:38 ) the light green building is and always was Folkie's Tavern, I new the original Folkie that own the bar way back in 1950 They was so very nice to all Same building at the left side was Ernie barber shop >>> To the right of Folkie's Tavern > Marion at Christmas time was the most highly decorated in America!! Because all the decorations was made right there in Marion Indiana....
There’s a lot of homes built in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s near downtown. My father in law from my first marriages parents lived in a home on 1719 S. Branson. One of those that had no driveway, garage, or fenced yard. It had no vintage charm to it, just a very old home that had upgrades just to keep it livable. And it was demolished in the 1990’s and the homes around it today make Compton look like Disneyland.
@@andrewslife1979 Thank you Andrew and I have watched them. Just ignore my other personal questions. It's really none of my business. Thank you for showing us the variety of cities and towns of Indiana. Great job!
I'm gonna be in Fort Wayne visiting family next month. So I will be visiting Muncie, Kokomo and Marion. And maybe Fishers. Still waiting on My wife to say yes. She may be close😉
I go to God's House in downtown. I'm trying to work on outreach and meeting the needs of the community. Right now, I am aware that there is no shelter for women and children. Not much for kids to do after school or in the summer, so easy to get into trouble. We are working on getting two basketball courts put in the parking lot of God's House to give opportunities for the community to come together and give kids and the guys of the homeless shelter something to do and some exercise. The public library has really good opportunities as well, but we haven't partnered with them on anything yet. I think if people were more intentional about spending their money in businesses in downtown instead of on the bypass, Marion could really make some strides toward recovery. I'm praying that God allows this city to rally together and take pride again.
@@SpiffyUNO yes still very mixed. Not a lot going on here at all but it's a chill town from my perspective and my experience being here. The weather is typical Indiana weather. It's spring now but you may still have a snow day here and there. I think we get the best of all seasons since we experience them all in the Midwest. Overall not a bad place at all, kind of boring but not bad.
@@NiquesNails_ Got it!! Much appreciated. Any issues with racism, or natural disasters? I’m sorry I know these questions sound a bit wild lmao. But i had to ask somebody 🤷🏾♂️
@@SpiffyUNO no racism that I've experienced but everyone's experience is different. Me personally, have never experienced this in life, even in my hometown fort Wayne. Only thing we get here are tornadoes which rarely ever happens
