Was at A&E yesterday getting a bit of metal out of the eye..happened me 20 years ago aswell and I swore i would never cut metal without the safety glasses on but got complacent again.
Good work but wear the specs

Great job. Next time when welding heavy plate like those brackets try doing multiple passes of weld instead of the wide weave. Start with one bead then two beads side by side on top of that and then three beads on top of the two. It will turn out much nicer.
Just a tip. Nothing wrong with what you did at all and it will hold perfectly fine as it is. Well wear.

Thanks @edclohosey490, always happy to get tips, I'll be sure to try that the next time I am welding.

I would love to eventually, but I’d say it would be a money pit, but you never know down the line

@creaghfarm3495 ya would take a fair bit to get it up to standard. €70k available as a grant. Would be a shame to lose it.

Nice video when you have the grab full open it up level with the prongs and reverse .

Getting a clean face on the pit could be a number of things.
As you mentioned, the grab typically wants to lift up when closing the blade due to the pressure. You could try tilting down a bit when it's cutting. I've heard wear on a loader can exaggerate the grab lifting up on closing.
Try sharpening the teeth with a file. You'd be surprised how good of an edge you can get compared to the grinder. It's more work with a file, but might help the teeth get and stay sharper for longer. Just be careful - one slip and you could do yourself damage.
As you mentioned, I think replacing the shorter tines will help. If there's too much of a gap it can put pressure on the teeth of the blade. As long as they're not worn and kept tight, it should help cutting to the bottom.
Hope you get it sussed. Silage looks a good tight crop in the pit.

Thanks James, I’ll try tilting the teeth downwards. I think the main problem is the play in the loader for leaving the bottom couple of inches

When you cut a full block of silage open the grab again slightly before pulling away from clamp. That should help stop it ripping bits of silage out

Good restoration of shear grab. Does the job grand. A final touch up of blades with hand file 🤔 .Silage looks good.

Thanks Sean, I may give it a run of a hand file to see if it makes a difference

Maybe take smaller bites with the grab and it might cut cleaner
