  • If you use spray chrome on your lures you have probably tried everything that claims to spray on a chrome shine . You probably have also been bummed out when your hand made lure goes from chrome to gray when you clear coat it. In this video I do a side by side comparison of the two best spray-on-chrome products I have tried. And then I use ten different clear coats to see which preserves the shine best. You'll be surprised at the results.

    You need to try Tractor Supply Majic brand Gloss black as a base with the silvering paint and covered with the Majic clear. It has a self leveling slow cure that causes a high gloss no buff finish.

    • @EngineeredAngler
      @EngineeredAngler  3 роки тому

      The Majic Clear is just clear lacquer and I have tested lacquers both dipped and sprayed...they aren't very good with these two spray chromes. Thanks for the tip though...

    Thanks for the video. Very interesting about the different clear mid & top coats. I have experience with Molotow and Alclad, but found them to be too delicate and sensitive to clear coats. I'm excited about Duralumen (ordering next).
    Check out Duralumen (cheaper) & Alumaluster (expensive), both give great chrome finishes.

    Years ago I read in one of the bass magazines about how chrome, nickel, and silver flashed differently underwater than they did in air. as i remember, nickel and silver flashed brightly, but the chrome spoon flashed "black", which is hard to visualize, but the pictures were pretty clear. have you done any testing of how these products flash underwater? if not it might be an interesting vid to make!

    The Krylon mirror paint is used for getting a mirror effect on glass. It is not intended to be shiny on objects but have a silvery tone that could work as a mirror silver backing. It is not chrome-like.
    So on the reverse side of the question... does anyone know of a chrome-like paint that painted on the reverse of a glass could help it look like a mirror? I cannot get that krylon paint in my country and I am searching for a substitute. If any of this paints could work for that please post that answer! Thanks!

      The color paint doesn't matter. What matters is the clear coat over it. You have to get a perfectly glass like surface. It's very hard to get a really glass surface with just spray paint. I don't see the point of using plastic spoons when most people use these products on metal and I'll bet you didn't show how many of those spoons were melted by the solvents in those products that's why we chrome out metal not plastics

    • @EngineeredAngler
      @EngineeredAngler  4 роки тому +1

      Actually the fact that Chrome is applied to plastic is something that many people Miss. If you look at your car you'll probably find a lot of plastic parts that have been chrome-plated. Granted the process of actual chrome plating is much different than what I'm doing. Luckily none of this plastic spoons were affected by the chemicals. And using spoons is just a cheap quick method of testing paints and other coatings. Thank you so much for your comments and questions

    • @andrewarcher5611
      @andrewarcher5611 4 роки тому +1

      @@EngineeredAngler the problem with using plastic is that it's not a worthy or reliable source because those paints will react much differently on metal or primer and most chromed plastic on cars aren't sprayed on they are wraped in chrome adhesive, like silver or gold flake but a large wrap and when they flake off it comes off like paper ,I use those Same sheets on wood , YOUR method would cost more as people would spend more on repairs far to often and when trying them on medal the outcomes are very different and more often than not are not what people are expecting out of their project and the worst thing to do is apply an adhesive or clearcoat first to force a paint to stick especially an oil based product ,doubt causes far too many blemishes and dulls the whole project, however I suggest using primer first then go to the selection of chrome ,the primer will act as a top coat as the spoons are made from chems that are meant to protect the spoon for food safety and washable reasons witch is WHY different plastics will react to your tests if you keep that in mind , food safe made products use different chems than auto plastics so I suggest using automotive plastics or fiberglass but not kids toys as they too have different chems to make them non toxic witch will react differently also
