@@alvinanil6996 No, that's actually true. Each country's own film federation nominates which movie they want to send to the Oscars for those people to narrow down into a shortlist and ultimately the nominees. India sent in Last Film Show/Chhello Show (2021), a coming of age drama film about a young boy discovering his love for cinema. Why they did it is a mystery to me and so many other people. RRR probably would've been nominated if it was selected.
As a black person, I am so pleased to see FOUR Asian actors nominated. Too often, their performances are ignored. Like when parasite, despite how successful it was and despite winning best picture and best director, received 0 nominations in the acting categories… I hope this can be the start of change.

Kudos to Jamie Lee Curtis for applauding for twenty minutes! Kudos to DeVon Franklin for reading those 192 names without botching too many of them. Try reading 192 names from all different linguistic backgrounds. And you knew Ke Huy Quan was going to be as thrilled as a little kid to be up there. Others certainly equal him, but there cannot be a more authentic person in the acting profession these days but he. Like the various aggregations of past acting winners at the Oscar broadcast every so and so many years, this is a great moment for promoting film-making and not just acting. I just read that all 23 categories will be presented during the telecast. That's great. I would rather see the Sound people receive their award than hear banter between presenters. Focus on the films (with clips) and the film makers, not the show's writers. Unlike on the awards show, this luncheon does not build to a climax with the producers of the Best Picture nominees. Everybody, everywhere, nominated for everything takes part on equal footing. It was an excellent idea for the Academy to upload these luncheon videos, whatever year they started to do so.
