Potstill whiskey was first made around a hundred years before the tax was introduced.

I personally prefer scotch. But humanity owes the Irish an enormous debt of gratitude for the fact that we have whisky/ey at all. Thank you Ireland!

Try it hot in winter - a measure of Bushmills, add enough boiling water to heat the drink to the temperature of a cup of tea and add a couple of cloves (don't forget the teaspoon in the glass to stop it cracking) - if you haven't tried it do so. Also good for a cold.
      Medicine!

Uniquely Irish..... please tell me that was a joke.....Bourbon is uniquely American, scotch is uniquely Scottish and Irish whiskey is uniquely Irish but whiskey in general is not uniquely Irish.

The Irish invented whiskey, the name comes from the Irish words water of life. So I would call whiskey uniquely Irish first!

+Terry Kast -- It WAS uniquely Irish, until another country started making the same type of thing, about 600-700 years ago. If you want to say Ireland was first, fine. That seems to be generally agreed upon. But since Irish monks first started making whisky about 900-1000 years ago, many other countries have followed suit.

He didn't say that,he said "Pot Still" whiskey is uniquely Irish and he is right.

Who are you replying to? If your comment was directed at me, I addressed the person who said that "whiskey" is uniquely Irish and said nothing about "Pot Still whiskey."
