So I have been forcing myself to eat this every day because it is very healthy. Amazingly, I have started to like Nato now. Thanks for encouraging me to try healthy snacks like sardines and nato. I have been experimenting with sauces in the nato to make it taste better as well.
My mind is blown! I eat a natto made in Brooklyn that is really quite funky and comes in a jar with no sauce accompanying it. Usually I eat it over a bowl of rice or even plop it in a bowl of ramen. Carbs really take the edge off.
5:30 - turmeric is often used to color mustard. It’s an excellent savory spice. I love it in chicken dishes, helps add some depth. Don’t know if I’ve ever seen a mustard that had food coloring in it before.
Whew.....I just tried some of these. They are an acquired taste for sure. Not my cup of tea, but thanks for encouraging me to try something new. My kid was laughing at the faces I made while eating it. At least I had some sardines to get the taste out of my mouth when I was done.
It means a lot to me that you tried! Natto is my afternoon snack every day. If I had to choose between natto and sardines, I would choose natto! One day I'm going to go on a journey across Japan and try natto from every region.
@@CannedFishFiles I used to live in Japan as a child because my dad was in the Marines. If you go during the winter check out the Sapporo snow festival. They make so many cool statues out of ice and snow. It was one of my best childhood memories. Keep up the great work!
Love it! Natto's the best. I wish more people would be interested in it. I'd love to do more natto videos. I just had my natto n egg on rice for breakfast!
You guys should try fermented radish... good funk! Amazon usually has it come back in stock search for “Ohsawa Takuan Daikon Radish Pickles - Macrobiotic, Vegan and Gluten-Free - 7 OZ.” Another thing that goes perfect with rice. Great digestion aid and/or digestive recovery.
Great vid as always, love the tv themes. I've been eating natto for a long long time, love the stuff. Fun fact (or at least I think it is) the 3 circle symbol with the letters JAS on the Nattohya package is the Japanese version of the USDA Organic stamp.
My very first Iron Chef episode was the natto episode. I was immediately hooked. TV in 2002ish was amazing in retrospect. I miss Iron Chef on food network, Friday Night Standup on comedy central, and dinner and a movie on TBS.
Korean stores have it too. Very high in vitamin. (k2) K2 needed with D3 both help each other. Like yin and Yang. Husband and wife. With only one no baby.
Aww, you included the Quantum Leap theme! I haven’t thought about that show in a long time! ❤️ I totally want to try natto. My city has a Japanese grocery store. I need to try it out! Great content!
*YESSS!!!!!* Where were you when I was looking up info on natto a couple years ago?! My favourite is that particular one with the radish tare. And I cannot find any other brand that has this sauce.
Now I want to go out and get some natto, need to see if my local asian grocery store has some. It's such a weird product, heard about it for years and how it's either an acquired taste or the most disgusting thing ever... first time I tried it I liked it immediately. Do you know if supermarket natto can be used to inoculate other beans? Might be interesting to ferment ones own.
I've never done it, but natto is definitely something that can be made at home. I think bacteria in the air is enough to start the fermentation of the beans, but I could be wrong. There are definitely lots of videos on the subject here on youtube!
Natto supposed to be a superfood for cleaning out the vascular system My go to UA-cam nutritionist - Nattokinase’s Amazing Effect on Blocked Arteries & Circulation - Natural Blood Thinner - Dr.Berg
OMG I bought some of this at the local Asian grocery store ($9) because we were looking for kimchi & the really nice employee helping us brought these up (fermented foods) & said that IF we could eat them, they’re very healthy. Well, they sat in our fridge for a couple weeks until i could convince myself to ignore the way they looked. So we (my son & I) finally talked ourselves into opening them to eat them when we were hit with that texture & stringy glue but that smell….. nope nope nope. Straight into the trash, i couldn’t even bring myself to raise the fork to my mouth. You are so brave!
This stuff has always intrigued me, but I’ve never actually had it or seen it. I’m in the Midwest US. I hear that it has a strong funky taste and smell. Can you compare it to another food so I can kind of get a sense of the taste? I’m curious as hell. (I eat a lot of sardines and I like those; are these kind of fishy?)
They're not fishy, the closest thing I can compare it to is when you try some funky cheese. Ya know, at first, or when you're a little kid, it's a little weird. But then when you get a little older and think you've tasted it all, it's a fresh frontier. The texture is very weird. Like the inside of okra. Rice (or toast) goes a long way to making it easier. If you go into an oriental grocery store, they'll have some in the freezer.
I tried natto after watching Paolo from Tokyo's Day in the life of a Natto maker (on UA-cam). I did not like the one I tried, but you convinced me to try some more brands. Mrs. Eats (also on UA-cam) says to mix it 100 times?! You are quite bold for eating that much in one sitting.
Did you just use that music because it sounds good? Or do you know it's from the two 80's TV series "Quantum Leap" and "Macgyver"? They ended in 92 and 93 respectively. I'd assume it's a bit before your time, but anyway it's nice to hear the theme songs.
Do you eat it cold? I gave it a shot but i microwaved it for a few seconds before eating and i absolutely could not handle the flavor. Im pretty open to trying new food but i literally just couldnt make it.
Either warm and slimy or cold and slimy lol. I was told to only stir it a little and it is somewhat less slimy. I think if you'd like to work it into your diet, just have it with some rice as part of a side to cut the pure slime and taste then it's totally manageable.
Natto everyday! Once I learned how beneficial it was a few years ago I've been having it almost daily. I blend it into smoothies a lot. I never have cold fingers or feet anymore.
1.Healthy fat 2. Brightener like lemon, umeboshi, lacto ferment 3.Bread/toast/noodles/grains/cereals? Oats might add to the slipperiness 4. A bit of something fresh Sweet bell peppers? Scallions? Tomatoes? Beets? Enough good salt for me The cod livers packed in their own oil sounds like a winning combo Or some sardines or sprats or something Vit D3/K2 is an excellent combo Tell us some of the stuff you came up with to try & liked
I also love natto you're literally bleeding into all my future UA-cam dreams don't start reviewing manga, anime or kdramas. There's like literally only a few grocery stores so every time I go to New York I pick up some I really wish Amazon sold it online 😩. I just remember there's a really good one it's radish. ☺️
You're hardcore. Put natto on rice and it's pretty good. Tamago kake gohan with added natto even better. Eating like five packs of natto at once seems awful.
Often my breakfast is an overeasy egg on rice with natto. I like raw egg, but Mom always warned me against eating too many raw eggs "in this country." lol.
So now I’m a natto guy, turns out. And I’m on my fifth generation of making it at home, following this nice fellow’s teaching: ua-cam.com/video/Q37Ap8wftz0/v-deo.htmlsi=mYISomxBbS-BX0EI
This is the greatest UA-cam channel. I’m glad to have finally arrived.

The turmeric natto from New York Natto is super good.

And you like natto too? My goodness, finally a kindred spirit that enjoys eating the food that most people dislike.
Love it! Natto's the best. I wish more people would be interested in it. I'd love to do more natto videos. I just had my natto n egg on rice for breakfast!

props for the theme song usages - happy to hear Thundercats and Quantum Leap to name a couple

Late to this channel, but as the biggest fan of natto, and super appreciative of the Spinal Tap reference in the intro, I'm hooked.
Very based and nattopilled
Love your videos

I totally want to try natto. My city has a Japanese grocery store. I need to try it out!

I think it's really a unique flavor. If you're a foodie, you've gotta try it once.
*YESSS!!!!!*
Where were you when I was looking up info on natto a couple years ago?!
My favourite is that particular one with the radish tare. And I cannot find any other brand that has this sauce.
Then just grate some radish in or something.
I've only just subscribed and I'm already a big fan. :3 Thank ya.
Your name “dreamynollusk” makes this somewhat unsurprising 😅
Chopsticks are so delicate and precise.... 😂
I'm going to try it - thanks a lot for the idea - you are the man Carl-san
I've been making natto at home for a while now (not super regularly). I like it when it gets nicely ammonia-ey like blue cheese
I have bought some from a local Asian mart where I live. I will try also with spicy sesame oil or kimchi
that was Definitely MacGyver theme song if I’m not mistaken
Now I want to go out and get some natto, need to see if my local asian grocery store has some.

LOL! My wife can't even be in the room. My mother and I both love the stuff.
You know,I eat with my eyes and that looks "strange".. I'll think about it.It is healthy...🤔
In contrast to sardines, easy to make at home.
Love the slurp

@@CannedFishFiles That sounds like something I’d like. I like Limburger cheese, for instance. I gotta find some of this stuff.

Interesting
I love nattou.
Why are these vids so gooooooooooooooood
Dude slurps them up so aggressively damn it’s like he can’t get those chopsticks to his mouth quick enough
Was that the Thundercats theme song?
Of course it was!
I like natto. It is very healthy. Can u buy it in a bigger package? Those little ones r annoying to open.
So I've just come back to this after trying natto for the first time, I'm struggling with it. Have you got any tips?
Hm! I would say, just keep on keepin on. Perhaps over rice. Or when you're really hungry!
1.Healthy fat
2. Brightener like lemon, umeboshi, lacto ferment
3.Bread/toast/noodles/grains/cereals? Oats might add to the slipperiness

Tell us some of the stuff you came up with to try & liked
Gonna stick to sardines!
💛💛💛💛
best way to eat nato is by throwing away the mustard then add the brown stuff and add a dab of sesame oil and honeycomb
what do you mean the yellow wasbi tasting sauce is the best
I also love natto you're literally bleeding into all my future UA-cam dreams don't start reviewing manga, anime or kdramas. Okay I clearly and commenting before I'm finishing this video you already know about the radish I'm going to go sit down 😒
It is sold on Amazon though 🤔
Sooo what was your favorite. Wasn't that part of the point of the video. I feel like it was just watching some guy eat natto..
Doesn't look any stranger than French fries with gravy over them..Looks like...well,never mind.😗
I love Natto I think it tastes like Swiss cheese

Switch on some music while you eat natto!
For $2 you can prepare 3 killo of natto by yourself.
ano...
Almost look like pine nuts.

I like natto, but i don't care for the slimy texture
that yellow wasbi tasting sauce balances it out it really is perfect as when you taste it its just refreshing
