I don't do "Overlanding" as most folks think.
I started 20+ years ago in my old truck, sleeper shell, and a cooler. Lol
Your statements, Kevin, are 100% spot on.
This is going to be a great series.
Topic for discussion. Odd gear you must have.

Have loved this newfangled thing you call overlanding for over 40 years starting with a VW bus (GX now). Also been exploring the western USA on a motorcycle and they now call it dual sport. Glad others are now doing what I’ve been raving about for years. And it is all about mindset AND puzzle solving. When something goes sideways, it’s a problem that needs mental agility to resolve. Not everyone has it and I’ve seen things go bad fast when clear thought isn’t dominant. So add the puzzle solving to the essential skills. And happy exploring.

As a person who loves the idea of overlanding, but hasn't really done it before, I often wonder why rooftop tents and overland trailers are so expensive. For $300, I can buy a decent family tent, so what makes a $3000 rooftop tent 10x nicer? I also LOVE the style and convenience of the overland trailers, but $35,000 for a trailer seems steep to me. Thanks for this video! My family and I love your channel/videos.

You're correct. My mindset was to give it a try but after a 20 day trip I realized I've become too old to enjoy the discomforts, lack of a bathroom and the non ability to control the temperatures while trying to sleep. I love the Jeep XJ I have built, but an overnight or two with friends is enough for me. Thanks for everything you do here. I still enjoy watching others do the adventures.

Great job breaking the ground on the series you guys are planning on putting together. I have followed your channel for a long time now and although I don't own a jeep or any equipment. I share the passion to explore the outdoors through ATV trail riding, ATV camping, vehicle camping, backpacking, and most anything that gets me into the outside world. I greatly appreciate the time and effort that goes into your videos and I love seeing miles upon miles of dirt road. Take care.

Thank you for doing this! And appreciate the focus on things like safety, tread lightly, and being prepared vs just the gear. Much needed discussions and look forward to what you’ll share. I give people your fire safety video ALL the time and have my nieces and nephews brainwashed into tread lightly and picking up the trash, all due to your influence. Keep it up! Your family is still my favorite.

Well said, my friend! My sons and I started "overlanding" w/o knowing it back in 1995. My parents and brother started way back in 1959 in an Oldsmobile station wagon; but I digress. We have been in the southern U.S. mostly but also in the mid-America and the western U.S. Hopefully, we have learned a lot as we've been the great outdoors. THE 5 "B's" are very good a starting for any newbies.

Great tips! I’m getting exciting about expanding my Overlanding experiences! One thing I haven’t seen anyone cover is kitchen cleanup. There are many videos about cooking and what to use and what to cook. In my kitchen at home, handling raw food and kitchen cleanup is a no brained, but I can’t find any on that when you’re in the woods for a few days/longer.

Awesome video! Thank you for putting these together :). My husband and I have recently gotten started with Overlanding, going out for short trips to practice our skills. One thing I would love some info on is bear safety. There are so many aspects of bear safety and so much of the info really pertains to camping in a campground with bear boxes or backpacking. Not very much info on what to do with coolers/fridges in a dispersed site. Looking forward to more content for us beginners and of course watching your family's trips for inspiration!

I dont know where the term overlanding came from but we started camping with a 1976 Honda civic a cheap tent , we took that car down so many trails and logging roads from Vancouver to tuk and on into Labrador .
You really dont need all that junk , get a responsable vehicle with good tires , some gear and will all fall into place .
