40 games and a built in screen make this a must buy for me, as it's different from many other retro consoles that rely on a separate TV and external controllers. If I wanted to play that way, I'd just use the original consoles and games. This is a rather unique product to me, and it has officially licensed games!
Really, an excellent video. I enjoy your calming voice. I'm glad to not hear someone yelling at me for attention. Anyway, you sold me. I've been waiting. Time to purchase.
Thanks for the advice. I had picked up that the voice volume was low and I had made adjustments in a few places to compensate. I tested on 3 devices from my end and it sounds ok but I was still concerned that there will be some devices where it might still sound low.
In their presentation video, they explained why they changed the button arrangements. They’re trying to make us feel easier to play since the way we play on controller and console are different
Nice review, thanks for presenting the device. I was really excited about the announcement but now I'm kind of disappointed. Without the familiar 6 button controls and this kinda poor selection of games it is indeed not the 'grab it and be happy device'. Considering the fact that I've spent already x dollars for several incarnation of the Neogeo games on Android, Xbox, Steam etc it offers far too less bang for the buck. And yes, the audio mix may require some polishing but I know it is a bit tricky, especially if you use several audio sources.
Your feed back is always appreciated. I wasn't aware that your interest went beyond commodore machines. But you are right. If I had the real hardware, why would I nerd this
It's most likely due to a poor audio mix for this particular video, specifically with the middle section. It does not come across bad on every device (which is why I never picked it up during production) but enough people have commented for me to accept that this fault is there.
Good review! You're right on point with the controller, the game selection, and the look of this vs. international version. I prefer the game selection on international version but it looks so dull compared to this. The controllers look great and I don't mind that it doesn't have the clicks of micro switches but agrrr..., I don't like the thump stick and unfortunately, we have no other choices! ☹ And regarding the built in rechargeable battery, it's portable and it has the screen, so naturally, most people would say that SNK should have included that but from their point of view, it's rather an arcade mini like SNES, NES mini and not a portable handheld gaming device, so maybe that's why they didn't include the battery; besides, the price probably would have been higher! And yeah, I think this is more for the collectors than for the gamers.
I have both versions of the NeoGeo Mini and as much as i like it i cant get used to the unusual button layout. Including an internal battery would of made it so much more versatile. Most people wouldn't of minded paying an extra 10-15% for the battery.
@@matthewwarr1441 Thats like partly true. Most modern devices with batteries (low powered ones anyway). Will just run the device and charge the battery separetly. So if the battery did die you can swill use it plugged in. but I think the biggest reason was cost.

Thank you for your feedback, its very much appreciated. Hope you enjoy the little console.
Finally... a review that shows it on the screen. Thank you. :)
$100 for 40 arcade classics seems fair to me. And it includes Super Sidekicks, AKA the greatest football game ever made!
Your voice is way too low in the mix. Try adding compression / limiting to even it out. It's the most important element in a review! 👍🏻

RetroGamerNation Listening on my MacBook Pro.
@@RetroGamerNation The sound is pretty low at parts, particularly when you review on your big-screen TV, I can barely hear you.
Thanks for the review. It definitely helped. I just wanna see if it's the best option for people like me looking to stream.

Actually that does make sense to a degree. They probably just miscalculated who the demographic is for the console
where'd did you get that 10 inch display? I've been looking for one to make some of the mini's portable
The display is from ebay. Simply search for '10 inch monitor' and you should get a good selection of CCTV Surveillance screens show up
I don't care about a rechargeable battery, I bought it to play at home not to be playing like an idiot on the street.🤦🤦
Bought 7 of them and me & the kids love em!! :-D
The neo geo mini pad US works with the neo geo mini japanese?
Ok, this makes me upset that I didn’t pick up the gold when it was for sale at a local EB games for $40
I still cannot believe you let it go at that price considering how much you spend on other stuff
Blame your sister!!

The best mini console ever period 👊
Why is the music so loud compared to your voice?

What kind of connectors does the controller use? Mini usb?
The controller uses a USB C connector. Apparently standard USB to USB C adapters do not work.

It's better not to have a rechargeable battery.
Rechargeable battery = unit will die in 3 years or so, unless it's replaceable
That's quite interesting. Wasn't aware of this. Do you have a link to something that I can read on this matter?
