    I have several small solar systems. I never discharged my deep cycle lead acid batteries below 50 percent. The life of these batteries left a lot to be desired. M solar panels and components have been very reliable, more than 10 years. The cost of replacing the deep cycle batteries was a great source of expense and irritation. I seriously considered eliminating that system and going back to the grid. But then decided to have one more try with a lithium battery. I bought one 200 AH lithium battery and was happy to discover that it easily replaced both 200 AH lead acid batteries so although it was expensive it was actually about the same cost as 2 200 AH deep cycle batteries. I did have to buy a new solar charger for lithium batteries. I am happy with this battery and expect it to last longer than the lead acid batteries. I will NEVER buy another expensive deep cycle lead acid battery.

      LiFePO4 is the way to go. If you factor in the lifetime performance, they are already more cost-effective than lead-acid, and they are coming down in price.

    I got 2 100h for my boat and love them. They are a little big and the fit was tight but fortunately barely fit. And under 500 a piece was a great value.

      How does the app manage multiple batteries?

    20:30 I’m still having the same BT issues - sometimes it finds everything else except it’s own battery! Other than that, it’s perfect!

      I know, it's very annoying, but I just kill the app and reopen and it normally works first time. Looks like there is a new "pro" app, but haven't had the chance to test yet.

    Thank you for your informative video. I’m thinking of changing out my Lead Acid Battery with the Lithium that you’re recommending. However, I see a comment below about diesel and now I”m not sure. I have a diesel engine and generator in my 2021 Winnebago View 24D. Will I have to do some rewiring or changing out charging equipment due to the diesel?

    • @gwebster65
      @gwebster65  8 годин тому

      Mine is also a diesel, but regardless, gas or diesel makes no difference to charging.

    I am in conversation with the Epoch folks, one thing they have told me is that the 300AH V1 battery is 13.6" long at the bottom but wider at the top where the carry straps attach. They are telling me it is approx 15" wide at the strap connections, can you verify this dimension? Also their website states the battery is IP54 rated, but they are telling me it is IP65 rated, do you have any knowledge on the actual rating? Great video, and I agree with the comment on how wonderful it was to listen to some one that speaks so clearly, my tired old ears applauds you. As a side note, I also retired in 2021, congrats.

    • @gwebster65
      @gwebster65  9 місяців тому

      Yes, I can confirm that the battery is 13.6" long and the handles protrude an additional 3/4" from each end. Good to know regarding the IP rating - was unaware of that - nice bonus!
      Thanks for the kind words and for watching.

      Thanks for the great videos. I have a 2023D with a solenoid instead of a mastervolt pro 90. Did your Navion already have the mastervolt pro 90? I am trying to determine if this is a must add to fo up to the 300 Amps Epoch from stock Napa wet cells.

    I'm not sure if the 460 epoch was available at the time but would it fit in your available space and would you have gone with it if it was available? Great videos!

      It was not available at that time, but unfortunately it’s too big to fit in my battery compartment

    Hello I have View 2019 , I’m looking to change for lithium battery Epoch . But do recommand to add solar panel first or change for lithium battery first. I use my Rv without power for fishing something 1 week without power . Thanks?

    • @gwebster65
      @gwebster65  6 місяців тому +1

      That depends mainly on where/how you typically camp. If you camp out in the open with plenty of sunshine, a 400W solar array should be able to handle your daily power needs, but if you are shaded or don't expect a lot of sunshine, then a high capacity lithium battery (e.g. 300 Ah) would be enough for several days - a week might be a stretch, but possible if you really try to conserve.
      If you are planning both upgrades, then if possible, I would do them at the same time.

    Thanks so much for your well done informative videos! We will be purchasing a 2021 view this month and want to convert to lithium. I'm looking at the Epoch 460Ah LifePo4. Do you think it would work out okay?
    Thanks and Best regards.

      I was looking at that one also, but based on the dimensions, I’m not sure the 460Ah would fit.

    Hi, great video. I have the same RV so very helpful. If you cut off the handles, would you be able to fit 2 batteries in the well?

    • @gwebster65
      @gwebster65  8 місяців тому

      I was considering doing that myself. If you cut off the handles, two should fit (just!) in the compartment, although you would need to rig something at the bottom of the compartment because the “tray” at the bottom is shorter. I decided not to try this (yet) as I didn’t want to invalidate the warranty.

    I have enjoyed your Epoch series. Great job. A couple of questions. Did you reinstall the smart shunt with the Epoch? I use the Victron, as my batteries don't include Bluetooth and it's been very helpful.
    Also, did you have a PWM solar controller originally? If so did you install or consider an MPPT? Especially with lithium batteries it was well worth it for my install.

    • @gwebster65
      @gwebster65  8 місяців тому +1

      I did not reinstall the Victron - having only one battery, it doesn’t give me any info that the Epoch app doesn’t. Also, what I don’t like about the Victron is that the remaining battery life is just a calculated theoretical value (and sometimes wrong!). Thanks for watching.

    • @garyaltenburger6667
      @garyaltenburger6667 Місяць тому

      My first charge controller was a PWM but it could not keep the battery charged. A MPPT charger really helped and did the job. It was well worth the extra money.

    Do you have LP or deisel generator? is the battery able to start it? thanks

    • @gwebster65

      I’m getting ready to put in Lithium 22V and came across your post. Mine is diesel and can be a booger to start. It usually takes several attempts, even after all the Cummins warranty work. I looked at the wiring diagrams and it appears that the generator starts off of the chassis batteries. Can you confirm? Thank you in advance!
