Rammstein, formed in Berlin in 1994. All six members were born and raised in the former East Germany. There have been no line up changes at all since the band's formation. Band members are Christoph Schneider on drums, Oliver Reidel on bass, Christian " Flake" Lorenz on keyboards, Paul Landers on rhythm guitar,, Richard Z Kruspe on lead guitar and Till Lindemann on lead vocals ( also the band's lyricist). Flake walks in a treadmill because he gets bored and can't walk about on stage ( he used to ride a Segway but he ran into Till on stage one night and damaged his leg). Till's leg punching comes from when his knee used to dislocate on stage and he used to knock it back into position. All band members are trained in pyrotechnics but Till is a licensed pyrotechnician.
Du hast means you have, du hast mich means you have me. The song is about loyalty and is a play in marriage vows. To every vow spoken, the female voice says yes, the make says no so he cannot be loyal to his intended.
If you're looking for videos with English subtitles, the best channels are Educated Marine or Buchstabu.
The band are a force of nature with a massive and loyal fan base world wide. Btw, the Paris reference in the video title just refers to where the concert was performed rather than part of the song title/band name. If you're looking for more from then, try Engel which means Angel as a good start. Nice reaction especially if the genre isn't your usual cup of tea. I've been a fan of Rammstein for about 26/27 years so more than a bit dedicated to them especially as I'm from the UK and speak only a little German!

“This song is actually about a kind of loyalty,” said Kruspe. “We see Rammstein like a kind of family. We have a strong awareness, a strong sense of tradition in this band. And for me, this song is a bit like that promise of faith we know from weddin seegs, that’s kind of been integrated into this family"

    The story of “Du hast”:
a girl proposes to a guy
    later he reports
Du hast mich gefragt = you’ve ask (me)
    Und ich hab(e) nichts gesagt = and I didn’t say (anything) / I didn’t reply
    Continuing …
Will you be faithful until the end?
Will you love her even on bad days?
    Nein
    Nein
    Which of course means
    No
    No
And, there is this playing with double meanings in German
    Du hast = you have
    And
    du hasst = you hate
    Both sound almost the same
If you are not listening carefully
The special situation of the concert in Paris
The French are generally know for not liking much to speak other languages
    even more so in Paris
Try to talk to a waiter in English in a Parisian cafe and you may never get an answer.
However it seems that is changing.
Now, England and Germany are close neighbors to France.
The troubled historic relations with England (the 100 years war) are long gone.
Whereas WWII and the German occupation was only kind of recent.
That’s why thousands of French fans singing in German in the Bataclan concert hall in Paris is remarkable.

Rammstein is one of the most famous metal bands and living legends with the same line-up for nearly 30 years. Their stadium tour is the greatest metal/rock show on the road in these days. They are a german band and are considered the best live band in the world by far, especially when it comes to showmenship, pyro and fire. Rammstein don't have their roots in metal but in punk, which many people don't know. See also haircut of Till Lindeman. Above all, Rammstein uses pyro quite differently than all other bands. There is no blood on the arms, but fire protection gel. . Rammstein concerts are sold out in minutes, no matter where they are performed. Till Lindemann is certified as a pyrotechnician and that's why Rammstein concerts around the world are rarely limited, not even in the USA. But after a Rammstein concert you can buy a T-Shirt written on it: I survived Rammstein. The Rammstein Stadion Tour is the greatest rock/metal show on the road in these days. Rammstein transports 1,350 tons of equipment for example for the stadium tour in Amerika. 7 Boeing 747 aircraft and 70 trucks are needed to move this mass of cargo. The stage on which Rammstein make hell for the fans is 61 meters wide. It is 30 meters deep and almost 37 meters high. 300 people travel permanently with the band to ensure that everything runs smoothly. In each city, 260 - 400 people also help to set up the stage. The construction of the steel colossus, which Rammstein calls "stage", takes 7 days.
Rammstein's music is a mixture of techno (electronic music) and metal (= industrial metal). Rammstein concerts are a life time experience that you will never forget. Their videos are art but also often controversial.
Rammstein also refers to classical German literature, e.g. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's. Several of their songs are related to controversial and taboo subjects such as sadomasochism, homosexuality, intersexuality, incest, pedophilia, necrophilia, cannibalism, pyromania, religion and sexual violence. Also several of their songs are allegedly inspired by real-life events or politics. Rammstein lyrics are very deep and are also often used in school and universities around the world to learn German. There are people who learn German only because of Rammstein. Rammstein fans from 10 to 90 yeras old are considered to be the craziest, hysterical and most fanatical fans in the world. In concerts from the hardcore fans all over the world it is expected that you can sing along with the German lyrics even if you don't speak German.

This video has post-production enhancement to the stage explosion and the lightning on the keyboard player's fingers is CG. I've seen them three times in the last couple of years and their current stadium setup has more fire and more lights than anything they have done before. Both their official videos and their live stuff are like nothing else BUT, you do need the lyrics in English, their songs are all pretty deep - politically, emotionally or making comment on events. The best live band in the world at the moment.

"Du. Du hast. Du hast mich. In its opening chant of You. You have. You have me, “Du Hast” released by Rammstein in 1997 was a breakout song for the German industrial band."

"is that guy on a treadmill?" - NEVER gets old. Bhaha! Never. Just love it. Yes Ramm (STIN) vs (STEEN) is explosive and I discovered them some 20+ years ago when Du Hast made it's way to these American Shores. I was immediately under their spell. The 'red' you see on Till is actually fire retardant to protect them from the flames of their show. The lightening, according to some, is a post-production thing - however, I don't believe it is all the time because it has been seen in live shows, generated by Tesla coils under the treadmill. Honestly my favorite pass time, for a while now, is watching reactions of people discovering Falling in Reverse, Rammstein (esp. Du Hast Paris Live), and Metallica '91 Moscow (specifically Enter Sandman AND Creeping Death). Always the best -

Flake (the keyboardist) will regularly walk around 15 miles a concert on his treadmill. Also one of the few bands that was able to crossover globally without singing songs in English. Most people don't care what they're singing it's all about the experience.

from Germany, they have been performing for years since 1993.their concerts are legendary, from gadgets to explosives and pyrotechnics..their lead singer has a permit for pyrotechnics .and all the members too I think because fire is always present on the stage they are not covered with blood in this video .but with anti-burn cream

    Greetings from Germany!
Rammstein is a German neue deutsche härte band that are celebrating their 30th anniversary next year. A very rare band who’s lineup has stayed the same since their formation.
It is actually blood on his arms, just fake blood, it’s from one of their earlier songs „Mein Teil“ that they performed that evening. And they also frequently put on a ground coffee mixture on their arms to look more dirty.
The translation of du hast is „you have“ it’s a bit of a word play since in Germany you have „hast“ which means „have“ and there’s „hasst“ which means „hate“, the only way to really tell the difference is either when it’s written or via context when it’s spoken because spoken both of them sound the same. So in the beginning of the song you’re not sure which of the both he means.
Later in the song he then gives the context by saying the full sentence „du hast mich gefragt“ - „you have asked me“
And then continues onwards by singing the German wedding vows „will you until death does you part be faithful?“ and then the female voice sings „yes“ and they sing „no“.
It’s a bit of a wordplay with the have and hate because the woman asked him the question and hates him for the answer that he gives.
Rammstein generally plays around with the German language a lot (which sadly tends to get lost in translation) and they quite often have a lot of different layers of meaning for a single set of lyrics. They’re usually very open for interpretation.
For subtitles there’s two great UA-cam channels:
    - Educated Marine - for music videos, making ofs and interviews
    - Buckstabuu - for live performances
    Some reactions I’d recommend:
    - Engel (live)
    - Mein Teil (live)
    - Feuer Frei (live)
    - Benzin (live)
    - Deutschland (music video, although it’s very complex and I highly recommend taking the Wikipedia page or something to hand)
    - Mein Land (Music Video)
    - Mann gegen Mann (live/music video)
    - Weidmanns Heil (live)
    - Dicke Titten (music Video)
    - Ich Will (music video)
    - Weisses Fleisch (live)
    - Pussy (live)

  • @peekaboosue
    @peekaboosue 6 місяців тому +5

"Du hast" means "you have" "du" is "you" and "hast" is "have" the word hast can also mean hate but only when it's spelled with 2 S's so "Hast" is "Have" and "Hasst" is "Hate" so yes it can be translated into English and don't let the double meaning confuse you... I don't understand why people say it can have double meaning when it's clearly spelled with only 1 S so in the context of the song its "du hast" "you have" not "du Hasst" "you hate" I'm pretty sure if Rammstein wanted to they would have added something like "Du has(s)t" to indicate the double meaning of have and hate. Another thing is be careful when you search English translations... English versions and English translation are not the same... English versions are NOT the same as English translations..if you'll need any help, links and/ or suggestions just lmk 😊

Never been a huge Rammstein fan, but back in the day, when I was working as a receptionist in a hotel, we hosted them for about a week. Might fine people, really shy and easy to entertain. I know, they are the bigger stars on world stage, but I´m sure you´d rather have some Seeed (while we´re talking about German bands). "Ding" or "Schwinger" would make for good starters. Cheers.
