nice to see UO get some love ( Supersonic Storybook & the Stull ep are great ) I recently re acquired Manic Street Preachers "Everything Must Go"( oddly enough) and it's much better than I remember ... also Zombie really gets on my nerves.
Great idea for a thread, Tom. I had forgotten about the Southern, Hillman, Furay Band album which I used to have on tape and liked a lot. Chris Hillman seemed to like bands with 3 peoples' names in the title. McGuinn, Clark and Hillman also came out around this time. Solid album.
Well, yeah, but nowhere near as painful as dumping a girl and finding out much later what a huge and terrible mistake that was. At least you can always get back the CD/record 😊
Purged The Left Banker Too in the mid 90’s after being given a mint OG pressing in a large stash from a family member who passed. I know, I know, anyways, just couldn’t get into it. Because of that reaction I never explored their first album. Ten years later my coworker was playing it in our shared workspace and it instantly hit me like a minor masterpiece. Took me a hot minute to get a less impressive copy again and finally bought the Sundazed reissue in 2011. Still haven’t stopped kicking myself over that debacle! Great topic!
We live and we learn - and unfortunately, those hard lessons are the best ones. I did the same thing with Left Banke Too - just couldn't get into it, despite a few songs that I liked ("Bryant Hotel" is one). Their debut LP was excellent. Cheers, Rob 👍😄
@@robgasper8521 That first Left Banke album is fantastic. There’s maybe one track I dislike. Left Banke Too isn’t as strong, but I love Dark Is The Bark and Desiree.
Totally disagree about the Cranberries / Zombie track. The music is tight & strong and her voice tone is perfect for her anguished plea. I find this track comparable to the Fun Boy Three / The More I See (The Less I Believe) cut. Both deal with the insanity & senseless bloodshed in Northern Ireland.
Agree, but another shout out, on the same album Ridiculous Thoughts is also a very strong track (and incredible performance). Possibly my fav Crans track.
The video for "Sister Havana" was such a kick in 1993, intentionally out of step with the era, sense of humor. That album is worth having. I haven't purged him but my collection of Pete Yorn albums has been steadily growing in the last few years. However, lately I keep encountering prices in the $60-$75 range for his used earlier albums. To quote Hall & Oates "no can do," even though I really like his albums. Haven't heard the one he just released yet. I "purged" a CD of Spoon's 2001 'Girls Can Tell' album and later got the vinyl. I don't think that is in the spirit of your criteria here. I never stopped liking it.
The compilation "The Best, The Rest, The Rare" by Helloween. I resold it, because I already had most songs on the original albums. But then I found it at a flea market and bought it again. It was worth it for the included single-b-sides, which are better than many other artist's a-sides. They really knew how to deliver back in the eighties.
The Frost Live at The Grande Ballroom, I purged myself of Chicago 1,2,and three because I was too cool for main stream music. So, yes I have re acquired. I traded Masters of Reality for Cosmos Factory. I have re acquired MOR.
I'm planning on repurchasing the soundtrack to "Room with a View", not because i purged it, but because i played the cassette until it stopped. I'm eyeing one on vinyl on Discogs.
I've always been a big Graham Parker & the Rumours fan, and so in the late 1970s, when I saw The Rumours' solo album in a 2nd hand shop I bought it to see what it was like - and thought it was crap, so got rid of it. A few years of really enjoying my GP & the Rumour albums later, I saw it in another 2nd hand shop and thought "no, it can't possibly have been that bad" so I bought it again and it really was just bland and dull, so I got rid of it again. A few years later I saw it again for 50p and gave it another go. I still have that one but it hasn't improved. There's often a good reason why some albums are common in 2nd hand shops.
@@cebusapella9125 Absolutely. I always see a lot of the same ones. Monster from REM always seems to have multiple used CD copies wherever I go for next to nothing.
Fleetwood Mac Rumors. Bought the CD in the late 80s, sold it in the 90s. 5 years ago i repurchased the expanded CD. Still ignoring it Pete Townshend Empty Glass. Glad i bought it again. Peter Gabriel (Car). Repurchased a remastered version. Now love it Tom Petty Wildflowers. Same dumb reasoning for trading it in - glad i recovered it.

I'm with you on the late Steely Dan albums. I purged 2 Against Nature but to be fair I didn't give it a chance. These days I have all the SD studio releases, plus Fagen's Nightly and Kamakiriad (which was also a purge/repurchase). But I own the weak stuff mostly out of respect for the good stuff. I also agree with you about XTC's Wasp Star. I've never purged/repurchased an XTC album, but their last two are the weakest of the bunch, they have a certain sterility about them, produced totally within headphones rather than a room...something along those lines. My biggest purge/repurchase surprise was Electric Light Orchestra's Time. I hated that when I first heard it, but I decided to give it a second chance. Now I consider it one of their best albums.
'Everything Must Go' has become my favorite Steely Dan album. I think the Dan only got better and better each outing. The title track is their final swan song, their final goodbye. For diehard fans, It's meaningful.
I love Ray Davies, but had - and have - mixed feelings about his solo work. There are several songs on "Other People's Lives" that I love. "Is There Life After Breakfast?" is perfect, imo, and "Over My Head" slays me. "The Tourist" is excellent, too - and "Stand Up Comic" is interesting - but the CD's first five songs do nothing for me, and I actively dislike "Run Away From Time". Still, I'd buy anything Ray does in a second, upon learning of its existence, because he and The Kinks are my all-time favorite "musical artists". Good video, CF. Thank you. I'm glad that you're doing what you're doing - and coming up with interesting angles for your vids. 👍😃

Had to think long and hard, Tom, it's not something I really do. Once it's purged, I'm done. Of course, I've replaced some work out cassettes with CDs or downloads, but that doesn't sound like what you're talking about. Anyway, a couple of exceptions: An album I didn't want to give up, Randy Newman Live At The Troubador, traded for guitar lessons that I wanted more; Hawkwind's Doremi Fasol Latido, wasn't interested when I got a free copy and needed trade credit. Both replaced a few years later.
Hilarious. Everything you purged, I kept. Don't have the xtc though. Similar situation where I interned at Enigma Records in '88 and was turned on to their whole catalog. There are about a dozen or so titles that I regret selling. Alice Cooper's 1st 2 LP's, GTO's, Sonic Youth, etc...
Regarding Wasp Star. I also find the tracks, Church of Women and You and the Clouds Will Still be Beautiful both top tier, in addition to those 1st 2 songs. (Although like yourself, it is my least favorite from XTC)
Great video. For me it was "Coda" by Zeppelin. I actually did it twice, before keeping the third copy I bought. Love that Pete Yorn and I feel the same about the Steely Dan. It's a pretty good album. I own it... as I too am a Steely Dan Completist. Cheers.

The Rolling Stones Dirty Work for some strange reason I don't know.
