I also have a similar number of Criterion laserdiscs (some different titles), as well as about 1300 other laserdiscs which I showed when I first started my channel. Not intending to collect them all but I still really enjoy the laserdisc format. All the best

Criterion also released a few VHS copies for some of their laserdisc titles. I'm pretty sure they did VHS releases for Citizen Kane, and.....King Kong? They were a really amazing company back in the day. They literally invented the running commentary, popularized the widescreen format, and basically introduced Special Editions and supplemental material to the general public. Also, they were the only ones at that time to go back to the original camera negative and remaster the film for home video release. The picture quality of their releases just absolutely buried everyone else. The advent of DVD and more current home video formats really levelled the playing field, though, and Criterion's superiority has all but disappeared.

Just stumbled on your channel and I loved the videos I have seen! An interesting Criterion Laserdisc release is Akira (#283). To my knowledge, I don't think Criterion has released any anime since. I'm sure it's weird to get licensing for that, etc. I have always felt there are essential anime films that would be wonderful in the collection. They started showing works by Satoshi Kon on the Criterion Channel so maybe it's a possibility in the future. ❤

Thank you and welcome to the channel! I think your right, Akira is the one and only anime that Im aware of that was in the criterion laserdisc era and there has not been any since. Im not the biggest fan of anime but there is a few that ive seen that would make great additions!

Do you have any superhero movies? If so could you make a video where you show all of them?
BIG fan of the channel btw, I’ve recently started to collect movies myself and your videos always make inspired to buy more. Thanks!

Wow i didn't know there were criterion laser discs. They must be a pain to store since they're so big, but you gotta love the art and details
