Both are good, but you really can't compare them, floor is on another level in terms of control and knowledge.

C'mon I'm a Floor fan but that is not true. Ariana can use whistle register, Floor has no whistle register so by definition that makes this statement untrue. Floor's range is 3 octaves but her tone and power over those 3 octaves is superior to that of Ariana of course which is what matters the most (Ariana's range is extended by the whistle register). This would not even have been a close battle if whoever compiled that video included Floor's better sound quality concert clips and provided more examples of Ariana's outdoor live singing rather than short excerpts from talk shows etc.

I know you mean well and sometimes for non-metal listeners the heavier vocals can be a bit intimidating, but they are most definitely still "actual vocalists" even when they're screaming or growling.

You made that video? Aside from the Wacken clips of Floor, did you purposely go out of your way to find the worst quality clips you could find of Floor's performances? Each one of those performances can be, even more easily, found with better sound quality and technique.

When it is used to cover off key because of laziness then it's use has been adulterated and thus the reputation.
It doesn't really matter if an artist 'needs' pitch correction or not. Nine times out of ten, on a studio album, it will be used anyway, especially in a huge budget, glossy, mainstream production. It's doesn't necessarily mean a vocal needs correction because of bad singing, but a lot of the time it will be used to put it in perfect pitch with the other instruments for the sake of presentation and polish.

I'm a fan of most of the ones you mentioned because i will give them all props they all can sing but all of your metal bands sing every note and word of their songs. and pop singers mostly have their songs wrote for them, night wish Tuomas Holopainen writes all of the songs they perform.To me unless they can write all of their music, they shouldn't be allowed to be famous because it's more moving when its something that the band has wrote from the heart and soul and perform it.

I'd MUCH rather listen to someone creative with more than just technique. Someone who doesn't sound like 5 other artists who are successful already. #2 the music industry is ageist. I'm not even 20 and I know this. Name ONE popular singer who hasn't already been famous a decade or close that is over 30. You used to be able to, now you can't. You - can't break into the industry anymore if you're too close to 30, which is why Katy and Taylor have to dumb themselves down younger in terms of how they're perceived to the public. ( Which is so weird, because like 30-35 used to be the PRIME in people's eyes I think? At least it seems that way watching movies and tv shows. 30-35 was when you had it all together and were still young and now it's treated like a death sentence. ) #3 Good technique doesn't mean a great sound. This is an extention of #1. While #1 is based more on sound, vocally you have to think about music and your music as an artist. You can have great technique and a voice that doesn't pair well with the music or your sound in general.
There is no comparison. Floor is on another level that grande will never reach. Grande is a pop singer. Floor is a angel artist. She is the ultimate Nordic Viking goddess sent to earth so us mortals can listen to what heaven sounds like.

I don’t think people should put down singers and say they can’t become good when they are pop singers. Mariah sings pop and she is one of the best singers ever. Not saying Ariana is the next Mariah but just because a singer is a pop singer doesn’t mean they can’t be a great vocalist

What i noticed: - a lot of cellphone recordings - the recordings are only from regular live performances. I know that Floor growl with her former band, she sang the Phantom of the Opera and lot more. I don't know much about Ariaba. I think that we didn't see the full range from both. - how long did they performe before the snippets we see.
To be completly honest, Floor was with the notes she had a strain was just because those are the longest songs she has to sing and deliver live. I cannot see Ariane Nailing a 21 minute song live. but for me no one can beat floor, she is the best in her genre live most definetly!

Ariana is an amazing singer technically but I find her voice annoying and difficult to listen to for more than 30 seconds at a time. Floor I can listen to for hours.
I have seen both live. 80,000+ people all having a Floorgasm at once is an incredible experience. Floor has an unmistakable stage presents. Grande is a no for me, even in her prime.
Ariana getting 7 points is very impressive, she is really, really good! But Floor is in another league like we all know. Ariana is one of the best in pop and very talanted all in itself but Floor is the Queen of all AND the most versatile

Both singers are amazing. I think the critique here is fairly done. I didn't know which singer would get the most points, but I do feel rather proud that Floor got there. Her versatility is such an asset, she could probably sing most styles. Would you consider reacting to Nightwish - Ever Dream at Wacken 2013? I feel like Floor is really overstraining because she's going for the ending at full voice. It doesn't sound comfortable at all and it seems she can't sustain the notes properly, but I don't know if I'm right or not since I'm no expert - wondering what your professional opinion would be? It was originally written for a very classical opera-style voice (Tarja) and worked great in an opera-style head voice, but I think going for a full-on belty sound at so high a pitch is nuts. It would be much easier for her to go on head voice getting some similarity with Tarja's version. It would be pointed immediately as she tries to copy Tarja.. you know why. So I think she preferred to go on this harder way just to do it different. My opinion ofcourse..
Keep in mind Arianas e5 was while she was fresh and Floors was the end of a 2.5 hour set where she’s done vocal gymnastics the entire time. That said def a bit strained and just comparing the clips side by side, yeah, Ariana, but Ariana has shown some strain since we got to like point 5 or so.

Nothing against Ariana, but most of the songs Floor sang were written for a different singer who was pretty much only using one technique by someone else before she was in the band. Floor has so many different techniques that she can do, plus some of those videos had bad quality. I think if someone else made the selection for Floor, she would've ran away with it. Plus Ariana can't do screaming metal vocals. I may sound biased, even though she won, but meh most of Arianna's stuff is short sets on TV with plenty of rest, as to where Floor here has been singing long gigs. The last clips two of Floor was the last song in their playlist during their tour. I will say it was great to see this, to see different comparisons of completely different genres. Ariana has a great voice. She can't top the Viking Queen though.

They’re both out of this world! I think it’s so cool that Floor is classically trained though, it gives her style a different edge. I only like melancholic pop from my childhood so I hadn’t heard Ariana sing live, I’m glad to know that she’s actually talented and not auto tuned. I would still prefer metal over pop though.
Well, I have one: Two vocalists that are in the same band, have a completely different voice and tone, sing hard Rock and are sisters! Daniela and Paulina Villarreal from the band "The Warning". The third part of the trio, Alejandra, does only back vocals, she is never the lead singer. Thanks a lot, this was fun!
I'm a bit bias since i love floor n heavy metal, and dislike pop.. very little pop music actually gets my attention, but i can still say they have talent (a lot of them anyway) Floor wins in every little clip. Like someone pointed out, floor is performing 1-2 hour sets in her videos and shes still singing every song flawlessly... ariana is singing 1 song at an award show or talk show,
Tarja would definitely win. Amy is nasal, but it works it's her tone and it's beautiful but technically not great. Sharon is AMAZING and has the SWEETEST most ANGELIC voice on the planet where Tarja has this dark, thick, rich and perfectly rounded power of a voice that engulfs everything. But, Sharon's falsetto and headvoice is getting a pinch less easy. Maybe due to age or maybe just due to corsetting too tight in the videos I've seen. Personally I'd say Tarja and Sharon are equals given Tarja's diction sometimes making her musicality sound a little questionable but that's debatable if that's really a technical skill of music theory preference?
Though I love them all, Tarja wins technically-wise due to her classical training, Amy Lee got weaker, Sharon actually got the best tone for me and is self-trained, which is pretty amazing cause she's the Leader of Within Temptation since 23 years and still got it, her consistency is brilliant.

It's very simple: we can talk about octaves, and whistles and D5, E5, Fs and what not until the cows come home. Floor can make a grown-ass, battle-hardened ex-special ops man cry. There is no way on god's green earth that Ariana can do that.
They are both amazing singers & anyone who says otherwise needs the head's looking at. The reason I'd say floor is the better singer is simply because she can do the metal and everything else.
I agree with the outcome, but the person that put the clips together was obviously dealing with some quality issues. Volume from video to video and distortion cannot help but to affect the sound of very specific note calling in a battle like this. I'm sure they did the best they can. :) Maybe next time try to focus on some of the acoustic examples? That should eliminate a lot of distortion, overbearance by bands and co-singers. :) Good job :)
I love floor, she is my favourite singer since she was in AF but you can't compare, because some people don't like pop but other people don't like metal and when Ariana was like 2yo floor was already singing
I agree with the outcome with Floor on top, but I have to say the selection of Floor's clips during a live performance with a crowd size of 85K ,outdoor festival such as the Wacken 2013 clips, Vs Ariana Grande's rehearsed, indoor, smaller venue HBO type special. There's an uneven playing field there and some of Floor's clips had Marko singing at the same time. No inclusion of clips from Beste Zangers Phantom of the Opera etc
Most of Floor's clips were old and bad quality. Also you have to take into consideration that all of them are from 2h long shows whereas Ariana's ones were mostly from a 1-song for TV. The "we were here" part is from a 20 minutes long song closing a 2h show, and Floor still sounds incredibly powerful in it. Ariana has a great voice but I don't think she would be able to do what Floor does.
The type of singing of Floor do it's more complicated than Arianas voice. And I know both are studied singers but Floor has the plus of be classical singer.
Just FYI, in the short clip where Ariana is on the Jimmy Fallon show, she was imitating Christina Aguilera so that's why she was doing some crazy oversinging (you can see Christina's name at the bottom of the screen).
They are both amazing singers in my opinion. Chances are I'd listen to Floor rather than Ariana, but Ariana is extremely talented and I'm pleased that a really great pop singer is the 'opponent', rather than a mediocre one. She's a worthy contender, for sure.
Ariana vs Miley kind of doesn't make sense since in those battles she's comparing them on the same notes. Miley and Ariana have different voice types- Ariana shines in her upper mix register and her head voice/falsetto/whistles whereas Miley shines in mid belts and low notes.

You can compare singers that sing different genres and singers with different level of abilities(although that is kind of pointless too) as long as their voice type is simmilar. When you compare mezzo with soprano it's just unfair since for mezzo C5 is a higher note (harder to hit, also 'sounds higher') than soprano. Same goes for low notes. (There's a video somewhere on differences between contralto/mezzo/soprano if You are interested) That being said i was just commenting on why maybe she chose to do Floor vs Ari. That's just my opinion, doesn't mean she won't do Miley vs Ari :).
I soooo agree. The only thing is Ariana had been known to use pre-recorded vocals for her really high notes But I'm a Floor enthusiast...even learning how to growl because of her.

I had it scored at 11 - 5 for Floor and took out the 1 point for Ariana because the sound Quality was just terrible on one of the clips and you had Ariana winning that point can't compare because of bad audio quality

Well both of do long shows, for example a couple of clips of ariana were from Tour shows, which are an hour and a half of time

But this song in particular has 21 minuts it's a lot harder not to get fatigued, both do long shows but you have pauses between songs.
And a 2 hour show on top of that.

When it is used to cover off key because of laziness then it's use has been adulterated and thus the reputation.
It doesn't really matter if an artist 'needs' pitch correction or not. Nine times out of ten, on a studio album, it will be used anyway, especially in a huge budget, glossy, mainstream production. It's doesn't necessarily mean a vocal needs correction because of bad singing, but a lot of the time it will be used to put it in perfect pitch with the other instruments for the sake of presentation and polish.
@@MOBSERVES Yea and most of them have been caught lip singing in some of their songs live while bands like nightwish, even evanescence, epica, within temptation all perform live throught the whole set. I'm a fan of most of the ones you mentioned because i will give them all props they all can sing but all of your metal bands sing every note and word of their songs. and pop singers mostly have their songs wrote for them, night wish Tuomas Holopainen writes all of the songs they perform.To me unless they can write all of their music, they shouldn't be allowed to be famous because it's more moving when its something that the band has wrote from the heart and soul and perform it.

Vocal coaches have analysed Nightwish before as you said, but good on you for finding something that's not yet been done! #2 the music industry is ageist. I'm not even 20 and I know this. Name ONE popular singer who hasn't already been famous a decade or close that is over 30. You used to be able to, now you can't. You - can't break into the industry anymore if you're too close to 30, which is why Katy and Taylor have to dumb themselves down younger in terms of how they're perceived to the public. ( Which is so weird, because like 30-35 used to be the PRIME in people's eyes I think? At least it seems that way watching movies and tv shows. 30-35 was when you had it all together and were still young and now it's treated like a death sentence. )
#3 Good technique doesn't mean a great sound. This is an extention of #1. While #1 is based more on sound, vocally you have to think about music and your music as an artist. You can have great technique and a voice that doesn't pair well with the music or your sound in general.

What i noticed:
- a lot of cellphone recordings
- the recordings are only from regular live performances. I know that Floor growl with her former band, she sang the Phantom of the Opera and lot more. I don't know much about Ariaba. I think that we didn't see the full range from both.
- how long did they performe before the snippets we see.
To be completly honest, Floor was with the notes she had a strain was just because those are the longest songs she has to sing and deliver live.

I have seen both live. 80,000+ people all having a Floorgasm at once is an incredible experience. Floor has an unmistakable stage presents. Grande is a no for me, even in her prime.

Both singers are amazing. I think the critique here is fairly done. I didn't know which singer would get the most points, but I do feel rather proud that Floor got there. Her versatility is such an asset, she could probably sing most styles.
Would you consider reacting to Nightwish - Ever Dream at Wacken 2013? I feel like Floor is really overstraining because she's going for the ending at full voice. It doesn't sound comfortable at all and it seems she can't sustain the notes properly, but I don't know if I'm right or not since I'm no expert - wondering what your professional opinion would be? It was originally written for a very classical opera-style voice (Tarja) and worked great in an opera-style head voice, but I think going for a full-on belty sound at so high a pitch is nuts. It's not like Ghost Love Score where it was a high belt but didn't look painful. The vocal range she shows in Ever Dream is really impressive, but still...

Keep in mind Arianas e5 was while she was fresh and Floors was the end of a 2.5 hour set where she’s done vocal gymnastics the entire time. That said def a bit strained and just comparing the clips side by side, yeah, Ariana, but Ariana has shown some strain since we got to like point 5 or so.

Nothing against Ariana, but most of the songs Floor sang were written for a different singer who was pretty much only using one technique by someone else before she was in the band. Floor has so many different techniques that she can do, plus some of those videos had bad quality. I think if someone else made the selection for Floor, she would've ran away with it. Plus Ariana can't do screaming metal vocals. I may sound biased, even though she won, but meh most of Arianna's stuff is short sets on TV with plenty of rest, as to where Floor here has been singing long gigs. The last clips two of Floor was the last song in their playlist during their tour.
I will say it was great to see this, to see different comparisons of completely different genres. Ariana has a great voice. She can't top the Viking Queen though.

They’re both out of this world! I think it’s so cool that Floor is classically trained though, it gives her style a different edge. I only like melancholic pop from my childhood so I hadn’t heard Ariana sing live, I’m glad to know that she’s actually talented and not auto tuned. I would still prefer metal over pop though.

I'm a bit bias since i love floor n heavy metal, and dislike pop.. very little pop music actually gets my attention, but i can still say they have talent (a lot of them anyway) Floor wins in every little clip. Tarja would definitely win. Amy is nasal, but it works it's her tone and it's beautiful but technically not great.
Sharon is AMAZING and has the SWEETEST most ANGELIC voice on the planet where Tarja has this dark, thick, rich and perfectly rounded power of a voice that engulfs everything.
But, Sharon's falsetto and headvoice is getting a pinch less easy. Maybe due to age or maybe just due to corsetting too tight in the videos I've seen. Personally I'd say Tarja and Sharon are equals given Tarja's diction sometimes making her musicality sound a little questionable but that's debatable if that's really a technical skill of music theory preference?
Though I love them all, Tarja wins technically-wise due to her classical training, Amy Lee got weaker, Sharon actually got the best tone for me and is self-trained, which is pretty amazing cause she's the Leader of Within Temptation since 23 years and still got it, her consistency is brilliant.

They are both amazing singers & anyone who says otherwise needs the head's looking at. The reason I'd say floor is the better singer is simply because she can do the metal and everything else.
I agree with the outcome, but the person that put the clips together was obviously dealing with some quality issues. Volume from video to video and distortion cannot help but to affect the sound of very specific note calling in a battle like this. I'm sure they did the best they can. :) Maybe next time try to focus on some of the acoustic examples? That should eliminate a lot of distortion, overbearance by bands and co-singers. :) Good job :)

I agree with the outcome with Floor on top, but I have to say the selection of Floor's clips during a live performance with a crowd size of 85K ,outdoor festival such as the Wacken 2013 clips, Vs Ariana Grande's rehearsed, indoor, smaller venue HBO type special. There's an uneven playing field there and some of Floor's clips had Marko singing at the same time.
No inclusion of clips from Beste Zangers Phantom of the Opera etc
Most of Floor's clips were old and bad quality. Also you have to take into consideration that all of them are from 2h long shows whereas Ariana's ones were mostly from a 1-song for TV. The "we were here" part is from a 20 minutes long song closing a 2h show, and Floor still sounds incredibly powerful in it.
Ariana has a great voice but I don't think she would be able to do what Floor does.

Ariana vs Miley kind of doesn't make sense since in those battles she's comparing them on the same notes. Miley and Ariana have different voice types- Ariana shines in her upper mix register and her head voice/falsetto/whistles whereas Miley shines in mid belts and low notes.

You can compare singers that sing different genres and singers with different level of abilities(although that is kind of pointless too) as long as their voice type is simmilar. When you compare mezzo with soprano it's just unfair since for mezzo C5 is a higher note (harder to hit, also 'sounds higher') than soprano. Same goes for low notes. (There's a video somewhere on differences between contralto/mezzo/soprano if You are interested) That being said i was just commenting on why maybe she chose to do Floor vs Ari. That's just my opinion, doesn't mean she won't do Miley vs Ari :).

I had it scored at 11 - 5 for Floor and took out the 1 point for Ariana because the sound Quality was just terrible on one of the clips and you had Ariana winning that point can't compare because of bad audio quality
