EXCELLENT video. Got halfway through another one yesterday that required completely removing the bumper. Was able to use this video to complete the task. in less than hour with tools I already had and the bumper still on the car. Thanks a bunch!
Thanks for the excellent video How-To . It just helped me quickly and efficiently replace my left rear tail light. You made the job a breeze with your highly detailed video. Surprised Toyota engineers made the job so much more complex than it should be, but overall the Prius is and has been a great car to own due to it's excellent reliability and construction.
Just replaced my driver's side rear light using these precise, detailed instructions. The video is easy to follow and saved me lots of money! The project is not difficult.
Great video, thank you very much! Word of caution: if you buy the taillights, most of them come without the turn and reverse bulbs. Make sure you have them before installing the whole unit.
Excellent, clear. Close-ups and arrows. Good narration. Great. Appropriate for someone with a little experience/courage since you will remove/replace an interior panel, weather stripping, loosen bumper.
I would recommend not pulling the bottom bumper off, just undue the 1 screw below the light on the bumper and slowly maneuver the light in, there say this because this bumper clips break very easy. Thanks for the video! Great work really appreciate you!
Thanks for the clear instructions. Very slightly different for plug in Prius: the side accessory bin is not screwed down, just pulls out. The trunk latch trim includes the whole rear accessory bin for the charging cable. It just pull out too. Otherwise the instructions are identical. The whole thing took 15 minutes.
This is to replace the assembly, not the bulb. It's slightly different with a 2015 Prius V (which I did this morning), but this definitely gives you the idea.
Excellent video. Could not have been able to replace rear tail light w/o it. One item not mentioned was the two white insert snaps at inside that had to be depressed to remove. Thank you so much!!!!
You don't have to remove all the plastics and upholstery in the trunk. Those two nuts are easily accessible after removing the little plastic cover which is designed to access the bulbs. But this tutorial is missing unscrewing bumper from the bottom - two screws behind the rear wheel and one on the back, just under the lamp. Without removing those, you may break your bumper when pulling it back.
befor removing tail lite after everything is removed nuts bolts screws STOP they don't tell you their are two tail lite guilds, top of lite and bottom of lite you must pull down and out and then push down to remove the tail light from the guide, look at the video haft way through when they start to remove the tail light see that little yellow guild at the eleven oclock position thats a tail light guild well I didn't know so I broke all of them,,, things they don't tell you
jonny c wish I had read your comment first! This video was great but I made the same mistake you did. Fortunately, the replacement light had new ones that I was able to snap right in, so all was fine. Other than that, thank you to the video maker. I followed the instructions and it worked. New taillight installed!
thank you very much for this video. able to save $$$ with the video. I wanted to add, there is an addditional clip that is at the top of the light that you would need to pry loose prior to the whole light coming off. it is not visible, you really have to look in and up.
Real easy if you have a replacement tail light assembly that actually fits! The eagle one from 1a auto does not fit. Now I have to send it back, and get oem from dealership!
You forgot to mention those two white thingies that attach to the metal frame of the car and the interior liner - theres no way that what you see in the video is what happens, the liner is attached and must be dislodged from the two white thingies and you either need a special tool to do it or i was told a needle nose plyers, but if you force it you could rip those white thingies from either the frame or worse from the liner (in the case of the liner they cannot be re-attached b/c they are glued.). So, the author must have either detached them before doing the video OR they were already detached (your liner will still function ok I suppose, just not as firm). Sort of shocked that this is the only video on youtube for this task.
yeah, the white thingies got me too. took an hour, but I figured it out and cut them from the inside with a pair of wire cutters. Tail light came off like a champ after that. Video was great besides this problem.
My tailgate brake lights works, my reverse lights works... the only lights that doesn’t work is the “night” light when driving at dark times! Do I need to replace the whole unit or just the bulbs!? A mechanic told me that I need to replace the whole thing! Can someone here help with this!? Thank youuuu in advance!
I have a Prius v which now has a broken tail lamp. Anyone have a video or clear instructions on how to change it? It's shaped different from the regular hatch back tail light and the Prius v tail light has a piece that goes behind the rear side panel. Any videos out there on the Prius v tail light replacement?
Juicedhybrid and everyone else that might could give me some advise... I have a Prius 2011 and I am having a little problem with my rear lights... - the turn sign indicator lights work fine, both tuning left or right... - the break lights work fine... - the reverse lights work fine as well... The only light that doesn’t work is the “ tail light”... any suggestions of what could be the problem? Tks anyone in advance for any advice. 👍🤙
Nice video! Can you please advise where you purchased those LED tail lights from? I checked with SPEC D and they don't seem to have that style of tail light anymore for the 2012 Toyota Prius. Look forward to hearing from you. Many thanks.
Who thinks those chrome vertically tall lights are messing with the Prius' design? Toyota you can do better. And the current flying seagull shape thing ... a bit better, but not that appealing either.
Its not.even 50% what u have to do to remove the ligt... many mor ethings.. there is white clips that hold light and u need to gently grab them.. and under csr remove some screw for bumper....

Excellent instructions that even a novice can follow easily. Thanks for posting this video. Saved me a ton of money!
Great video, thank you very much! Word of caution: if you buy the taillights, most of them come without the turn and reverse bulbs. Make sure you have them before installing the whole unit.
Great video! I used these instructions and had no problems.
Great video-thanks very much! It enabled me to replaec the unit on my wife's car and save a bunch of money. NEVER would have figured it out on my own.
Ahhhh, so I didn't have to remove the windshield, wheels and front seats!
Excellent, clear. Close-ups and arrows. Good narration. Great.

This was the most helpful video I’ve ever seen thank you
Thank you for the help!!! You saved me so much money AND I feel like an independent woman now💁♀️
Pirus 2015, it worked for me. Thanks for the video

I did it today! Feeling very good. Thanks a lot for the help!

Thanks، nicely made detailed video، camera playing was very nice made it easy to understand، regards
Very good instructions , you don’t have to take the rear bumper out like the others videos I’ve seen , BS to charge more time at the shop ....

Brilliant to the point and east to follow video!
Thanks for the clear instructions. Is the right side the same way? I need to replace my right tail light.
The dealership was going to charge me $720 to replace one light!
Laura Vasquez 720 wow
Thanks, clear instructions good quality video.
Very good and able to replace mine earlier without taking out the whole bumper.

Is 2012 interchangeable with 2011 taillight?
That's a ridiculous amount of shit to take off just to replace a tail light.
i didnt find it nessecary to rip up the bumper atleast...

I HAVE THE SAME ISSUE
Really helpful video. Thanks so much for doing this.
Great video. But what the hell was Toyota thinking on some of this stuff…take the bumper half off for a tail light….?
I have a Prius v which now has a broken tail lamp. Anyone have a video or clear instructions on how to change it? Rockauto.com
Be careful in removing the side panel because of that small inside light connection
does anyone know if this works just the same for the '14 prius?
cool, thank you Pam. will be trying this weekend, wish me luck!
I like the old one more :)
different tastes i guess, i like the lights red instead of transparent personally
You forgot to dismantle the rear driver side strut brace and sway bar.
Thanks that was helpful
It's completely ridiculous that they make it this complicated

what kind of tail light is that? it looks sweet, i hate all the chrome on the stock light. have no clue why toyota thinks people like that crap.....
thanks ^^
Toyota wants $125 just to do the "diagnostic". Does this work for 2004 Prius? More or less the same it looks like
Thanks ! Jeez .. what an ordeal for just a light !
BUY NEW CAR MORE EASIER
plz changing toyota prius 2010 language impot with japan
Video is great, fuck Toyota! You have to completly disassemble the entire back side of the car to replace the tail light!
