Nice to see people appreciate the value of good steel. I think it's crazy how much better old razors shave and hold an edge so much better. When i first started using old knives and tools i was amazed how well built they were. I won't spend my money on cheap disposable junk. I try to invest in items that were made to be multigenerational use items. It's sad people pass nothing to kids anymore, not skills, heirlooms, trades/crafts and even family history. We'r have become lousy as a world but something as simple as fixing great granddaddy's razor is a step back toward the right path. We need to re-simplify life. Im 35 years old but I'm sure i sound like one of the old timers from my childhood but those mem held more wisdom than most will ever comprehend.
I wish i had never even tried cartridges in my life. Cut throat is the only way to shave, i never get razor burn anymore either. Good tallow soap and a razor that'll cut if you look at it wrong and you're set for a change fit for a king. I guess those old cowboys that kept using staights long after everyone had switched to disposable garbage. Lot more to it than meet's the eye.
Razor emporium does full restoration services for antique straight razors and they do amazing work. Ive never heard them do one but the ones they redo are beautiful. They do custom scales and stuff too.
Good job.. Only thing it's not sharp enough.. You need wetstones starting 800-1000grit to get the edge straight again,it has a frown.. Then move up to atleast 10k..
Ive been thinking about getting some made from zebra wood with and extremely light stain. I'd love some from walrus ivory too, with matching handles for my pistol.
I have an old straight razor iv been meaning to restore. It's not bad. Just some black rust and a small chip on the edge . I'm going to see how you did yours. Any suggestions on working out the small chip? I'm going to do my handle on black walnut
You can see the difference in size of the sand scratches. you go until the previous sand scratches are gone, then move on to your next grit. And just keep doing that until you are satisfied.
У лезвия бритвы ярко выраженная обратная улыбка от неправильной заточки. Тебе необходимо было исправить ее во время реставрации. Без этого реставрацию нельзя считать законченной.
Please try to shave with it and you will see if it is sharp enough to give you a comfortable shave. Shaving hair off your arm is a little different from facial hair.
It is not sharp enough to shave your face comfortably. It will feel as if you're pulling the whiskers out with tweezers. The razor still needs quite a bit of work done to be acceptably shave ready. It can be done, but it will be pretty time consuming, especially with that prominent frown (the razor's edge is arched, where ideally it would be flat or with a very slight smile). I would tape off the spine (which has significant wear already) and reset the bevel on a coarse stone until the edge is as straight as I can get it. You'll need to grind down the heel of the blade first, or it will take ages. Once it is straight, it will require finer grit stones, followed by a light stropping on leather and it will lop off the tips of the hairs on your arm without coming close to your skin. The farther out you can cut the hair on your arm or legs and the less you can feel the hair move the sharper it is and then it is sharp enough for your face, but be careful to move the blade straight and parallel to the edge (absolutely no slant or side to side movement) or you will cut yourself.
Wow I think we need to get the Mona Lisa and paint a smile on it to make it look better. The edge is useless. Hair on your arm?? Try shaving. Flat scales?? Boring. All the gear, no idear.
@@yarimasu8760 A handle implies that's where you hold it. You actually hold it by the backend of the blade. The scales are simply to protect the cutting edge from damage when not in use.
I enjoy watching how you turn something that would be thrown away into something someone would eagerly buy. Great job as always.
👊🏻
It's the only way to live!

Havent seen all of your videos yet, but this is your best work so far in my opinion. Absolutely wonderful, you should be proud.
Great work mate. I was uneasy of u tossing the handle but I watched til the end and Mahogany complimented its very well. I’m now a follower.
Mahogany far better than ugly plastic. Great patience on hard steel.
Good job. You can buy a pin kit. It comes with washers. Spot on man. Incredible.
Nice restoretion my friend.😊 good job like from me 👍
The number one rule when owning a straight razor is always keep it sharp and don't let it rust because in the end it's better that way.
I reckon your right. And also better for owner’s skin.

That wasn’t a plastic handle. It was a antique baker light handle 😢
The Bakelite handle was worth more than the rest of the razor.
Lovely job. But with the wooden handle I think washers were needed for the pins.
Sweeney Todd sent me here. Love how straight razors look.
You should shave with them, they're amazing.
Man i wish i could have mine done like that

Beautiful work!! I love the mahogany handle. Amazing how sharp you made it. BTW, I need a shave!! 😄
Hi Yarimasu 👋👋👋 good to see you 🤝🤝🤝 very good restoration straight razor 👍👍👍
Amazing workmanship, first rate job 👍
Very good restoration 👍👍👍
Really great work. Perfect restoration. It’s sharp but not enough for me as a knife lover😂😂
I just bought one exactly like it at a vintage store!
Good job..
Only thing it's not sharp enough..

It's nice, but you removed that Royal logo thing on the blade cheek
Always test the razor in your face. Arms means nothing. Great restauration!
Nice Work
What a treasure!
Beautiful work! Have you ever tried polishing a heavily pitted aluminum mag wheel on a motorcycle?
Beautiful - I think a blonde wood contrasting spacer would look nice!?!

Great job ,constructive criticism would not use on the face unless you straighten up the over honed centre,
Yeah I noticed that too. Has a little frown.
Nice Job. Enjoy you channel.
I liked the original handle but yours was much better
John Miller Thank you.

I'm going to do my handle on black walnut
Phenomenal job.
Nice clean up but you gotta fix that frown cheers
THANK YOU!! I almost couldn't watch the video because the frown was bothering me so much
Well done
Hey Yarimasu, I don't know much about the entire process. Can you tell me how do you estimate when you should switch to a higher grit?
You can see the difference in size of the sand scratches. you go until the previous sand scratches are gone, then move on to your next grit. And just keep doing that until you are satisfied.

Beautiful! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
i love it
What were the liquids you used to clean the blade.
I think it was mainly just water with Wet/Dry sandpaper
Nice work. Do you shave with it?
Good vid bro
Looks more like Rosewood than Mahogany.
Did it retain the logo on the one side of the face, or it that not something one is able to keep if you need to sand it this much?
satisfaction: guaranteed
Nice!
@1:11 he got our ass. You sly boi yarimasu
Needs a demo🤔
Sweet 👍🏻 👍🏻
Tres beau. Bravo. Je m abonne !😍😍😍😍
Накладку зачем сломал, можно было и реставрировать?
Назвать это реставрацией вообще нельзя.
