I have a couple of questions… How long must you be a Dominican citizen to qualify for the discounted customs fee? I ask cus my parents are both Dominican and although I was born in NY I’m finally in the process of getting my dual citizenship now. Sadly I did live in DR for 8 yrs during my 20s but never bothered to do it but now that my husband is retiring we plan to move there as soon as Aug. and would like to take at least 1 vehicle with us. Id also like to know if it’s true the vehicle must be in my procession for minimum of 1 full year to ship it there? I ask that because both our vehicles are now passed the 5 yr limit so my husband was thinking of buying something newer cash to take. My last question is it true you forfeit the warranty once you take the vehicle out of the US? 🤔 I appreciate your info in advance 🙏🏼
I'm sure of the time period but from my understanding as long as you are a resident or citizen you can qualify for your retirement discounted fees. But I recommend checking with DGI (Dirrecion General de Impuestos Internos). And yes the vehicle has to be at least one year in the name of the citizen or resident in order for qualify the discount. In terms of the warranty I would check with your company there but it makes sense that they would not cover a vehicle that in another country. I hope this helps.
Great video and I thank you. My Visa was recently approved and I should be a Resident soon; I saw somewhere, that when you become a resident, some of the fees for shipping goods and fees are reduced. I will have to verify which ones. Did you ship because you already owned the vehicle or is it cheaper to buy in the US and ship it? Thanks again!!!!

She's very vague on the information she's giving, possibly because it is her first time shipping A car. It's very easy to find A reputable shipping company in America the problem is the Dominican Republic Government, it can take easily A month to get your car from the port. Now the 6200 is the cost of shipping and the taxes and fees in Dominican Republic. As for the question about the age, the only way to import A car over 5 years old is if you are Dominican and you have lived outside the country for 2 year's or more and you are moving back to live, otherwise know one can import A car over 5 years old. I've looked at it from every angle and it is basically the same cost to buy A car in the Dominican Republic
The $6,200 was the total amount for the company I use to ship boxes to DR. This price included shipping the car and all the taxes when it arrived. However, my family owns a dealership and pays less taxes when car arrives. So i paid only $1,400 to ship car with the expectation of total amount being less than $6,200 quote by the other company. So basically im looking to pay less than $4,800 to receive my car when it arrives. But I will update you. Sorry for the misunderstanding.
There is nothing vague about what I said. I paid $1,400 to ship my car. And now I'm waiting for it to arrive in the country to see how much the import taxes are. I mentioned another company offer $6,200 to do the entire process. That's very clear. Obviously it was clear you understood it. And yes you can buy a car in DR for $6,200 but you never know what you are getting. But if you have a car that's already paid for and meets the requirement to ship it why sell your car and buy another in DR? That makes no sense. If a person doesn't have a car or one that meets the requirements to be shipped then you are probably right why buy one in the States just to ship it. From what I was told shipping cost is based on weight and dimensions of the car regardless of luxury. However, the insurance to ship if you choose to get it can possibly be higher since the car is luxury, but I'm not sure. Now where I know the cost will be higher is when it makes it to DR. Because the taxes you pay will determine the value the Dominican government puts on the car not the Kelly Blue book value which is what US goes by or what you say the value is. This is a little concerning now as to what they will value my car as. Because you will pay a percentage of this value. And of course luxury car will be valued higher. Why not just purchase a car in DR if possible? Curious on the pros and cons of shipping from the U.S. versus buying there.
Purchasing a 2015 car in DR will cost you way more than $6000 USD. With our car I also know the condition of the car. Those 2 pros alone is reason enough for us to ship our car verses buying
@@NorberisR Makes sense, thanks. BTW I have been to Punta Cana, Las Terrenas, and Cotui.
After taxes and registration in DR you end up better just buying in DR .
@@NorberisR right. Cars in foreign countries you dont know in really what you are getting.
@@DarioDimitric BUT. She knows the condition of the car and when she goes to sell that car dominicans she is selling the car will know it came from FLORIDA and is in good condition
So stupid you can’t send a classic car to the Dominican Republic. Stupid import car laws over there. 😡
😂🤣
@@NorberisR Es verdad, suponer yo un dia de esto me quiero ir de retiro para yah, y no puedo traer mi carro deportivo que es 25+ años clásicos por que es “viejo” 😑

Are they strict on what year your car must be? My car is older than five years but low mileage
To my understanding they are but you can contact them to see if they've made exceptions before.
