and you can actually tell they’re dancing on the same stage that the couches / chairs are on. seems counterproductive to change the lighting / move every piece of furniture every time they need to dance, and then move it back lol
In season 8 there is a scene i which the kids overhear the moms fight in the foyer f the studio and Sarah gets super upset about it and talks to them crying.

yes I was there during the reunion abby held up the signs, they replayed our standing ovation twice & we only saw the girls at the very end, never dancing. abby was talking to us a lot

I could definitely see her side after that. I ran into her once before that & she was friendly but I wasn't because I thought she was the mean woman from TV. in person she's more down to earth, the character is for tv, even though it comes from a real place

yes this is an amazing idea! and yes I feel Brynn, kalani, and Brady were 100% her favorites. yes she loved maddie and Mckenzie but I do NOT b3lieve they were her favorites before the show like it was portrayed. I feel like they chose maddie and wanted to create a rivalry. and the producers picked the dances and would always request maddie for drama. if Paige or Nia or CHLOE did as many dances each week as maddie did they would have all improved 10 fold. yes maddie was amazing. but so were all the other girls.

I do think the other girls would have improved more if they were given more solos, but that was up to the producers from what I’ve heard. Apparently whichever mom made the most drama, their kids got the most solos. And since Christi and Melissa were always at ends with each other, their kids got the most solos, and same with Jill arguing and Kendall getting solos.
I am not all surprised that the reunion episodes were just as manipulated as the show was. I always found them to be inauthentic, so thank you for sharing all of the information that you found about these episodes! 💗

all of them have somewhat visible mics, there's an audio recording of Christi I think talking about how the mics were so sensitive that they could hear their hearts racing on the recording..

I once saw X Factor live and remember the pre- show a guy came out saying it was time to film audience reactions. He ran through "act like it was amazing, ok now act like it was meh, ok now a standing ovation and cheer and cheer" It was really eye opening to me as a kid.
can you do an episode about the kids schooling situation cause i know some were homeschooled, in private/public schools, online school,etc but i'd like an in depth video on this since it caused drama with the moms.
The producer getting the audience to clap before they see the dance doesn’t surprise me, when I saw the Xfactor live auditions, they make the audience clap and cheer, and the host even made us laugh (I’m only just realising now he made us laugh so they can film us laughing). The bit overall that actually surprises me the most is that girl getting hate from fans for making Chloe cry, 😆 that’s so unnecessary even if it was a genuine question from a genuine fan, I’m sure that was her intention

I’ve been to live tapings before and what I will say is that it’s quite common for there to be a compère or warm up act before the main show! They’ll work to get the crowd hyped and flat out tell you that they’re going to get reaction shots of the crowd (and not to be surprised if the clips appear on a show you didn’t film for, because it might be sold on…especially if it’s for a pilot that doesn’t get picked up!). The lines given directly to the camera by the hosts, in this case Jeff, are called pick ups. They’ll film these usually during breaks where the compère will take over for the crowd, hair and make up go in, etc. You know one’s coming because they usually do it during “we’ll be back after the break!” 😂 Sinead is pronounced like Shin-Aid usually - does the actress say it how it’s spelt? My Irish ancestors are rolling in their graves 😭😂 Great work as always! I love to see a new episode waiting to be watched. You always do such interesting, in depth, well researched deep dives. ❤️

I watched one of her videos where she rewatched season 1 episode 1. Oh boy the amount of shit she spewed. Even when trying to seem like she was giving a compliment she was giving a dig. She said Christi was always micro managing Chloe and that Chloe was always really well prepared but that was apparently disruptive to her training because Chloe was terrified of doing the dance wrong because of her mom…like no Abby, she was terrified of you going off on her! She also said Nia looked so cute in the outfit she wore on the first day where they were filmed coming into the studio but then said “but where’s her sweat pants and her t shirt?” Like she couldn’t just let the compliment stand for itself, she had to make it all about how Nia was dressed inappropriately for dance when she was obviously going to get changed at the studio anyway!
You could do one about when the dances were changed like Cathy changing the bumblebee dance, Kelly changing Paige’s solo and the moms changing the dance after Broadway Baby died. All seemed a bit sus
literally love this series. i think it would be interesting to find out behind the scenes on why abby’s behavior was really bad in season 3 in LA between her constantly disappearing and fought with some moms harshly.

Yeah!! I'd love to see this!! In season 3 4 and 5 (I think) she was absolutely wild! She wouldn't show up, she'd show up not ready and she had no modivation to run HER studio!! I fully thought she was on something throughout those seasons.
I thought that the dances were pre-recorded so good to have that confirmed. It didn't make sense to me that they could slot them in in order without filming going for ages, especially on the reunions with costume changes. The kids one where they just stayed in their own clothes the whole time maybe, though they still would have been out of breath for continuing the conversation
When the OG moms talk about moms after the first couple seasons only joining for the exposure, Jess is not even a bit hesitant to admit that it was her reasoning so not that surprising that she was willing to just go along with whatever. I feel like Jess and Jojo were two people who did a solid job of separating reality from "reality" for the most part which is what helped make them good for DM

One question I am curious about is-if the producers have final say over dance assignments for the week, why have they cut certain dances and there are so many unaired ones? Maybe there were unexpected fights that took up airtime, music rights issues, or they let Abby and Gianna pick the dance but at the cost of it not airing? Always wondered that.

The videos of clapping and reusing clips is pretty common across many different shows when I've been to filming of TV shows. They often reuse clips and sounds. Not normally super close up but tend to re use
As someone who was an audience member in a reunion episode for an MTV show, it's sooo scripted, at least from the side of the audience. We had to film ourselves clapping and showing various emotions on camera before the cast even got there. We filmed things where only half of us would clap and the others would look angry to show us taking sides but we didn't even know who we were siding with. In the end none of the footage was even used!! But most people there in the audience were actors. I signed up to go through a twitter link but seems like I was one of the only ones who did because all but me and one other girl didn't even know the show!
Okay, so I have been on a tell-all show before (I'm not allowed to say what) and ALL of the audience were filmed before hand. All.of them. There was never a camera showing an audience member during the actual tell all
I always knew the reunions were a little off. It’s funny how they call these shows reality shows. There’s nothing really real about the show it’s so edited.
I always skip the reunion episodes on Dance Moms rewatches. They really do feel like just a bunch of fake and forced drama, the actual show feels a lot more authentic and interesting even if some of it was set up by production.
in terms of the editing in the same clips another possibility could be that they didn't like the footage they got of the audience on that filming day, after all this would be filmed on a set and that means it would take more money to film it and they could only keep actors or audience for so long and it would be a waste of time to go back and get audtiance b-roll if the producers/exects didnt like the way the clips they got looked. and editor could have simply picked up a clip from a different day not realizing it was the same but the clip happened to look good.

When Christi openly criticised producers for making her sit with only Abby and Melissa, knowing they were setting her up to scream and rage.
The reunion episodes always remind me of the forced press interviews in The Hunger Games.

In the end none of the footage was even used!! But most people there in the audience were actors. I signed up to go through a twitter link but seems like I was one of the only ones who did because all but me and one other girl didn't even know the show!

Okay, so I have been on a tell-all show before (I'm not allowed to say what) and ALL of the audience were filmed before hand. All.of them. There was never a camera showing an audience member during the actual tell all

I always knew the reunions were a little off. It’s funny how they call these shows reality shows. There’s nothing really real about the show it’s so edited.

I always skip the reunion episodes on Dance Moms rewatches. They really do feel like just a bunch of fake and forced drama, the actual show feels a lot more authentic and interesting even if some of it was set up by production.

in terms of the editing in the same clips another possibility could be that they didn't like the footage they got of the audience on that filming day, after all this would be filmed on a set and that means it would take more money to film it and they could only keep actors or audience for so long and it would be a waste of time to go back and get audtiance b-roll if the producers/exects didnt like the way the clips they got looked. and editor could have simply picked up a clip from a different day not realizing it was the same but the clip happened to look good.
