From the album - Music, Martinis and Misanthropy

lyrics.
Do you ever think about
what a lovely place the world would be
without all the people
that make life so unpleasant?
All the small, petty people
All the ugly, annoying people
It's hard not to think about it
I like to think about
what could be
done to these people
Something cruel
Something mean
Something just
But the meaner the better
Goodness knows they deserve it
Have you ever dreamed of
killing all the stupid people?
Not just the unintelligent people
but the sort that don't know anything about anything
but seem to have opinions about everything
They're only too ready to offer their advice about
how to run your life
And yet look at how they run their own lives
For the most part they've accomplished nothing
They've contributed nothing
Their lives are miserable
But they talk, talk, talk
At the very least their tongues should be cut out
At the very least
Do you ever wanna
kill all the people who tell lies?
Some certainly deserve it
Not necessarily the big liars
or even those who teach lies as truth
I'm talking about people
who say one thing and do another
or who tell you they sent something express mail
when you know they haven't
Did you ever want to
kill all the slow people in the world?
The people who are in front of you
when they should be behind you
A crime that the swift should be help back by the slow
And it's criminal that nothing is going to rectify it
And what about all the really ugly people?
Add them to the list as well
Some people try not to think about life's ugliness
I've thought about it
I've thought about it quite a lot
Something should be done to these people
Something to make them suffer
the way they've made us suffer
I say, bring back the circus maximus
for starters
Unless these weeds are dealt with
they'll poison everything
They are poisoning everything
We need a gardener
A brutal gardener
A thorough, thoughtful gardener
An iron gardener
Whatever happened to Vlad the Impaler?
Where's Genghis Kahn when you need him?
Or Roi d'Ys?
Ayatollah Khomeini
Adolf Hitler
Benito Mussolini
Nero
Diocletian
Kitchener
Come back!
I met this man in person at the First Modern Drunkard Magazine Convention. The man is so disturbingly charismatic that I expected cargo cults to spring up in his wake.
They already have.
i love how this sounds just like a casual conversation with him
What most people dont get is that Boyd is about saying things that, if we are honest with ourselves, we've felt. He speaks to the devil in us.He just doesn't have that eternal, internal censor. We are afraid to feel unless it's in keeping with the modern accepted moral template. We want to say we understand love but we reject hate. Art is about emotion, not social codes. Or at least it once was. And let's not underestimate the power of irony. That's not to say that feelings must be acted upon.
Dr pepper
Mental gymnastics. His words are to be taken at face value, naively received like how the Greeks took the oracles words.
I’ve been listening to this since it’s release on constant loop. It’s the only rational medication for an all too often medicated world.
If this is still true today, you've listened to it 1,758,480 times as of 9:11am 12/27/2020
I envy Boyd Rice for writing this song and recording it. Listening to this song was in relation to reading your first Sartre or Camus novel and opening your eyes to the fact that you are not alone. An epiphany that hasn't made me any happier but much more aware.

"If these weeds are not dealt with, they'll poison everything. They are poisoning everything"
actually they can be used as a diary of a regular intelligent person stuck at office job, watching thru the window jersey shore kids as they fist pump and shout.
but everyone is just too afraid to admit they would cut world population in half if they could (and without consequences)
i wouldn't even consider consequences as a factor that bears any significance at all. since no one would be able to damage myself as much as I would've done to billions, in such a case; and also because economy isn't predicated on anything but the current capacity for production and consumption, taking future in which one of those ceases into account isn't immediately profitable and thus will lead to systemic collapse, eventually. think through the implications and you will see that more and more things that people pay money for become/are redundant, speculative and of no intrinsic worth at all. thus, it could very well be a favor to humanity to do such a thing, given some very specific conditions are met
Honesty is always worthwhile
Well, this song is very relevant. Now more than ever.
Beautiful misanthropy!!!
Boy, the chords on this are just fantastic. If I'd been born in '96 instead of '56, I would be thinking of all the melodies I could riff, using these chords as the basics. But, sadly I just imagine it.
If you like this guitar I suggest you go by the first current 93 album you can. If you have a choice swastikas for Noddy would be a good start. Boyd also appears on that album plus many others. But that's a good place to start.
I think death in June used these same 3 chords in about ten other songs .. I grew up in the 90s, born in 83, just like you said, playing guitar in my room
Unironically the funniest song I have ever heard
To truly understand this track you also have to have been a 90s twenty something. While not all agreed with the undertones in his work, many alternative lifestyle types related to the anger and frustration he was experiencing with mainstream doctrine - whatever it was.
Some of Boyds shit was over the top (especially his tone) but some of it was so subtle that it gave credibility to his work. All these years later, especially given recent American events, this track still is relevant.
Boyd Rice is a prick. His critics are cunts.
Great song btw
Boyd Rice makes me giggle. He sounds like Mr. Rogers.
I don't get how people take him so seriously. He's made a living out of fucking with people's heads, and obviously having a good laugh at the expense of those who get their panties in a twist.
Do you ever think about

in this comment section?
HAH!
The Talking Penguin something just....
You being one of them... Fucking great
Yes, including you.
All the haters - you aren't thinking hard enough about the lyrics nor are you giving Boyd enough credit. Yeah, the point is that he's whining about how many pet peeves he has about people - starting with things that are easy to relate to and escalating to the point where you're like "uhh, wait, what?" He's parodying the person that you were when you agreed with the first few parts of the song, at the end of the song. "Look how slippery the slope of hating people is." That's all...
No, it’s not a parody lol. You’re doing mental gymnastics to avoid the point. The lyrics mean what they say. Boyd is a fascist social Darwinist who unironically believes that most people are not worth of life.
Wrong. Boyd is a fascist social Darwinist who unironically believes that most people are not worth of life.
I agreed through the whole song. People suck. I am no exclusion.
I think this is important, artistically It's a sort of anti-pop. Rather than being generalized, saccharine and sterile, this is a specific statement, a bitter, resentful statement, lacking in super slick production quality. Pop is known for it's basic, universal melodies, and basic, universal themes. Save for the rhythm in th background, one could hardly call this a melody, or even a conventional song, more like a spoken word poem with some music in the background to set the tone. It's themes are nihilistic, full of hate, and while the lyrics themselves aren't very complex, it's... Well, it's one thing to understand what someone's saying. It's another thing entirely to intuitively grasp why someone be saying things like this in the first place. I think Boyd does at least halfway believe what he's saying in this song, and by extension, in other things he's said. But I think another half of his almost absurdly negative (as many would describe "edgy") presentation is pure spiteful reaction, going that extra mile to spit in the face of a world he maybe came into wanting to love, but found he couldn't help but hate eventually.
Uncle Wolf yea that is pretty edgy
Nicely said
Boyd Rice did start the "anti pop" movement that was basically internet trolling before there was internet trolling.
@ I always thought that credit belonged to Throbbing Gristle. 20 Jazz Funk Greats and its innocent looking cover, putting their most popular single on their third album but speeding it up to last a few seconds. Then the live shows, and the performance art back when they were called COUM Transmissions.

@marpeja the movie is made in Aarhus Denmark back in 2007 by myself
I fooled around with a girl in Aarhus in the summer of 1983. Met her in venice, and she invited me to her home. unfortunately, she had a jealous boyfriend, so it was a short visit. Nice city, though. There was a cool music festival, and lots of partying. I made her eggs benedict.
I'd be pissed off too if my name sounded like a chinese side-dish.

Beautiful song about beautiful hypocrisy :)
As much as I like the song, I have to admit that I, sadly, am part of these of people. Sigh.
I think that is the point of the song
Same.
we all are and aren't at once, getting angry about the slow person in front of you, then the next day you're the slow person in front of another, and then they take that place themselves the next day. humans are simply inconveniences to all of us in most of our interaction in this modern world.
The thing is, however disenfranchised, disaffected, removed or critical one is of Society. Everyone, however blind or grudging ; plays their part for good or ill.

Someone needs to inform Boyd that there are more than 2 chords you can play on a guitar.
Ahem, this song has 3 chords.
It's Douglas Pearce on the guitar.
This song speaks to me more and more every day.
I am probably one of the obsolete people Boyd speaks of in his work. I am okay with this. I wonder if I would patriotically salute the party and walk into the meat grinder willingly for such a movement.
