2013 3.5L SE Purchased it with 61k miles, now it has 101k. The engine starts up, sounds and runs EXACTLY how it was when I first bought it. Has never left me walking. Regular scheduled maintenance and it’s good to go. Had to replace 3 cv axels, wheel bearing, O2 sensor and a new battery. On another note the steering has stayed perfectly aligned for 2-1/2 years.
Good to know. Fordtechmakuloco came to the same conclusion and also breaks down the major flaws with the ecoboost. I lucked out and got the 2015 with the new body style and platform but with a 3.5l.
I had an 2010 Edge limited put 120k on in 8 yrs. Sold it for a 2015 titanium with the 2.0. 2015 runs good and drives great. But I regret selling the 2010 because it was still so strong.
Not sure if you are referencing the Ecoboost or Duratec. I am on my 3rd Ford Edge 3.5 duratec.working towards another 300K miles easily. Still have one going 360K miles plus without issues. The engines looked new when opened up no varnish and excellent oil testing from every oil change. I have proof.
Could not approve more! Turbos are not for daily drivers. Even if it was EFI it would not last as long. Forced induction raises ambient temp up so much engine just dont last.
@@MACTFordEdge luckily I just checked during a semi cold engine and its basically filled above the maximum line, so still holding coolant at 42k miles on the fixed 2019 ecoboost 2.0 block engine, but boy that oil smells like gasoline at 4,500 miles
Hey MacT, I just bought a 2017 Edge with 3.5 and 59,000 miles. After watching your videos I made sure to hold out for the 3.5. I got to change the coolant yet and the fluid in the PTO. Other than that, any suggestions as to what else I should watch for. Also I do my own work on all my vehicles..
@@MACTFordEdge Appreciate that, Watching your other video now "Ford Edge Fluids Maintenance and Change Intervals" i also live in Iowa as well. Thanks for the videos. Learned a lot from you already.
I have an 08 mkz with the 3.5 and i love it but the waterpump makes me paranoid. I ended up buying a 14 mkz with 2.0 so i could drive the 08 less untill i can afford to replace the water pump preemptively. I definitely prefer the power delivery and sound of the 3.5, the 2.0 sounds horrible. I do think with an added catchcan and pcv baffle plate the 2.0 is a decent engine though.
Unless and until you have to replace the water pump on those 3.5s at over 200k miles and it's so expensive it won't be worth it to make the repair so you junk the engine
Interesting view point. I guess I will let all the folks know that instead of fixing a water pump for 1600 dollars they should go out and buy a 20,000 dollar used car and get monthly payments.
It stinks that you have to do 3,000 mile intervals because of the fuel dilution, I wonder if you could use a mityvac to siphon one quart of the the top layer of the oil, with the thought that gas separates up top and you might remove the oil with the most contamination. Might make for an interesting experiment. Then again it’s not my car and I’m no scientist 😂
Sadly I can't make sense of your assessment...@ 2:05 you're confusing the fuel pump with a turbocharger. You point at a fuel pump then say the other engine is naturally aspirated, which means it doesn't have a turbo. The 2.0 turbo is out of sight on the backside of the engine block. Nothing to do with a fuel pump! Please learn more about how ICE engines work before making any more "technical" videos.

Thanks for being so thoughtful with the videos. Wish every make and model had a Bill to keep the manufacturer honest.
Love the 3.5. 2008 Edge with 223,000! Bought in 2012 with 52,000 on it.
Ditto! Bought at 75k and now have 219K
@@ryanmccormickoriginal water pump for both of you?
My 2015 3.5l just hit 107k
Also mine is 2018 3.5. A strategic buy a couple years ago

The difference between boosted and naturally aspirated
Image the majority of people following the oil change recommendations and going 10k miles on an oil change. Planned obsolescence imo

@@MACTFordEdge I think he is referring to those with the 2.0 and only doing oil changes at 10,000 miles. They maybe in for a shock later on.
@@rong2578 This is why I am going with oil testing videos to show the Ecoboost loves low mileage oil changes.

How can you tell if the EGR is taking in coolant?
Coolant will empty out of the bottle. Trace coolant will be found in oil

Good video. No way these direct injected turbo engines will last.

Transmission fluid every 30K and Brake fluid at least every two years. I would tell you to change the power steering fluid but that would be mean. LOL

MacT, Have you thought about putting in a oil catch can on the Ecoboost???
Maybe later however I still have about 5 yrs of warranty remaining on the 2019.
