😂 I was like omg don’t break your spade or fork. We have a rhubarb plant almost 40 years old as the original crown came from Gerald’s grandmother. I know it sounds silly but we grow it as a flower not a food they are stunning. Have a fantastic week Steve keep,up the great work 👍🇨🇦
It always amazes me that when you to that to rhubarb it doesn't just die. I'll be moving them all over the next year or so as they current sit right next to my main path to the polytunnel so are constantly in the way when they are fully grown.
It looks brutal but Rhubarb is very hard to kill - I have split my Rhubarb plant many time over the past 60 odd years You have to split it every so often to keep a vibrant plant going
Mine were well overdue a splitting purely based on the number of crowns that that one plant had. The rhubarb is probably the most neglected but most productive crop on the plot, just keeps going year after year with little maintenance and care.
Yes rhubarb is a tuber type plant, after a few years it gets too big and develops more growing crowns so the crowns need dividing up to avoid overcrowding to give healthier plants.
