  • Cain needs no introduction for most of us as Latter-day Saints. He hearkened to the voice of Satan and murdered his brother, Abel. However, is there more to the experience than just that great sin? Professor Shon D. Hopkin of the department of ancient scripture takes us back to one of the earliest episodes in the scriptures to help us understand why God requires us to have not only clean hands but also pure hearts and motives in order to come unto Him.
Each year, Brigham Young University Religious Education professors produce hundreds of publications on subjects related to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This podcast brings this research into one place to enlighten the everyday seeker of truth. Interviewing the author, we discuss why the study was done, why it matters, and why the professor chooses to be both a scholar and a disciple. This is Y Religion: Research to Enlighten Your Mind.
Y Religion podcast episodes are available every two weeks and can be found on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts, Stitcher, Pandora, and on the web at rsc.byu.edu/media/y-religion

Fantastic interview. RE tobacco companies, time to apply the same, now available historical knowledge, to the sugar and government food regulation industry.

Wow this was so good I could follow it. The Holy Ghost will help you if you truly believe. I have so many learning disabilities. I don't like to admit to. I have fiberomyalgia and neuropathy it's crippling so much pain. I was brought up in the gospel. I'm so grateful for modern technology so I can listen and finally learn. So thank you for today it was beautiful. Sister Sarah Bennett in NORTH DAKOTA. it gets cold up here. The Holy Ghost prepared me for many years of our marriage I kept telling my husband in our later years we would live where it's cold. When he told me about the interview he told me laughing. It's a good thing I take it with a good sense of humor.

Just a comment about "sin lieth at the door". I like to use the New International Version, the Cultural backgrounds Study Bible edition. It is full of articles and commentary that compares and contrasts the text of the Bible to it's cultural surroundings,( in order to clarify the context in which a story or saying might have been understood in it's original setting. This is the footnote to Gen 4:6 (which here is translated as "...sin is crouching at your door, it desires to have you...": "Recent commentators have preferred seeing the particle 'crouching' (Hebrew 'robes') as a reference to a well known Mesopotamian demon (rabisu) who lingers around doorways. 'Sin' is then portrayed as a doorway demon waiting for its victim to cross the threshold." I'm not saying that Genesis is confirming the existense of some 'doorway demon', but rather using a culturally familiar idea to paint a picture. I especially liked the idea of sin waiting on the other side of a threshold, as if it can do nothing until you yourself take the step across the threshold into a danger zone.
