I grew up on this movie. This trailer doesn’t sell how epic it is. Do yourselves a favor and watch it. RIP some of the legends in this movie.

I remember around the time of this movie there was a guy in town who was about 40 years and skateboarded. People would just stare and say things like “did you see that old guy skating over there.”It was totally unusual. I think Tony hawk is like 50 now.

This movie is an absolute classic. Amazing to watch it multiple times and look back at this movie

I was living in Honolulu the year this came out.
You can't go back in time,but it's nice seeing how the local areas looked at that time. 👍

I was thinking the same thing, even the shot flying in, how different Waikiki looks now vs. back then. It's like a time capsule.

I saw it open when I was a kid already surfing, skimboarding, skateboarding. Jax bch in FL where I grew up. The swells from Fernandina down to NSB are killer ONLY around Aug to Oct if there's a Hurricane 1000 miles away. It really cranks up. I got asigned Schofield barracks Hawaii..oahu..as a Captain in 2013. My lifelong dream. I was going to get a place on the North Shore. And then my orders were rescinded. Anyways love this flick. Got it on DVD. SAW IT ON THE BIGSCREEN IN WHAT? 87?? IM 47 NOW.
Learned to surf at the poles in jax and fernandina as well, after being stationed in kings bay in the Marines. Still here ten years later, living for the hurricane swells.
My friends and I watched this over and over and over and over in high school. Barney!!!!

One of greatest movies ever in my opinion. “It’s an old mans board chandler.” I freakin loved laird in this movie. He played such a good tournament driven. . A-hole. I also like seeing young Occy. Watch this all the time.
I looked up the movies release date in 1987. Unknown to us all, my favorite brother had less than three weeks to live. I believe this to be the first movie I sat in the dark watching after his death...

Haha, yep, total guilty pleasure. Just watched it myself after watching the new Laird Hamilton documentary. I liked North Shore more now than I did back in 1987, I think it's the nostalgia effect.

Really enjoyed this movie, very 80's. Loved the songs "Am i The One" by Mr. Dream Weaver, Gary Wright, and the song "North Shore Roar" written for the movie. Unfortunately it was a box office dud as the budget was $4 mil & the gross was just under that. A movie typically has to earn double the budget to break even due to the studio typically getting only 50% of the gross. I believe it stiffed due to not having an A-list actor playing Rick Kane. There were so many young stars in Hollywood then that they surely wouldn't have had a hard time finding one, so I'm guessing they were trying to keep it cheap & they got what they paid for.
